If you want to make a good impression on the cheap, get a dress shirt custom made.
You'll also want some decent shoes - key point: they must have leather or mostly leather soles.

A guy in a bad suit with bad shoes looks worse than someone in fairly nice business casual clothes.
Because the implication is that the guy in the bad suit is dressed to the nines, trying his hardest while still looking like shit, whereas the business casual guy looks pretty good, with the implication that he could look great if he felt like it.

>500$ suit
>Expensive

You'd be looking at at least 1200$ for an entry level "expensive suit".

For the record you should be looking for a suit with a wool quality of super 120 or 150.

Avoid polyester blends, pure wool is best.

Also you won't find a "high" quality suit in that price range, but you might find a decent quality suit.

>high quality
>less than 500

not gonna happen

even with shit tier options like h&m and zara a suit would run you 150-200 at full price

no clue how good they are but I guess COS would be the next step up from that, or lurk some sales and hope for some good shit to go for super cheap idk

honestly I think you should just go with suitsupply or something like that

no matter what route you take make sure it's 100% wool

500$ for a suit will give you polyester blend fused shit.

Op save some money, and spend at least 800$ if you want a suit that will last you many many years. (and still look good).

Hard to go wrong with blue.
Unless it's exactly medium blue. Medium blue is kind of 'janitorial.'
So go light blue or navy - with a dress shirt, better to go light for the sake of tradition. A navy shirt is kind of rakish, so not ideal for work, but OK for going out in.

You'll be leaning on your shirt elbows and forearms from time to tome, so white probably isn't optimal for disguising small amounts of dust.

As faces go, it's fairly balanced. I wouldn't worry.
Spread collars are an interesting look, and look alright tieless.

Patterns:
I'd go with plain blue to start with, but you can mix things up with blue on white stripes or blue gingham.

Bear in mind a custom shirt could be anything from €50 to €100.

A good reason reason for spending a reasonable amount of money on a suit.

No matter what the people here tell you, a bad quality suit looks bad, save some money and buy decent.

I agree, but I think we have different things in mind. I'd pay that for a bespoke suit with a floating canvas that fits me perfectly. I think you'd pay that for a big name off the rack suit with a fused canvas.

>For the record you should be looking for a suit with a wool quality of super 120 or 150.
No necessarily. Super numbers are just fineness/softness of the fabric. If this were true quality, then everyone would just abandon wool in favour of silk.
Myself, I like rough fabrics like tweed and flannel.
Always 100% wool, of course.

for a suit? no lmao

even fast fashion garbage usually cost upwards 200, if you want anything decent like op implied that he wanted, it's gonna cost more than what it seems he wants to pay

>>9930944
>I want quality but I don't want to pay for it

either pay for a good quality suit or buy some garbage for 200 and have it tailored so it at least looks semi acceptable

guess second hand could be an option idk

Not at all, but thats what I thought OP had in mind.

For your first suit, I wouldn't recommend flannel or tweed as those are fabrics more suited for fall/winter. super 120 or 150 is a good indication of the quality of the wool, and therefore of the suit. I am aware that there are great suits with a lower fineness of the wool, but as you said, these are fabrics more rough than a super 100s would be.
