Moving to San Jose (general bay area, including SF) to stay for 3 months. Anyone has some insight on bay area men's fashion?

I went to school in Manhattan so I'm going off that

Bay area is not a very fashionable place. At all. Sure you meet a lot of hip people around here but they're not fashionable by any means. Yuppies, nouveau riche asians, mexicans with large t-shirts, Indians with sandals and jeans, lumbersexual hipsters, and normies as far as the eye can see.

Style-aware, but not as style-conscious as New York in general.

Younger, affluent areas will have a crowd like Park Slope. Older, affluent areas will feel like the Upper East Side, but a bit quieter/less obvious. Certain areas like the Fillmore, Marina, Hayes Valley, Noe Valley will be better dressed in general due to the businesses/demographics to that area. Places near colleges/art schools will have younger kids probably trying different things, but not as prodigiously or as interestingly as some parts of Manhattan.

Plenty of wealth in the North Bay, but limited retail exposure and least urbanized population, so most folks just buy plain, but expensive things from reputable department stores.

On the whole, people care more about the design of homes and gadgets than they do about clothes. It's changed a bit over the last few years in selective pockets, but still a much smaller overall fashion market than LA, NY.

nobody really cares about what you dress.

you'll usually see the filiipino kids or southeast asian kids wearing rick owens and visvims.

for fashion, I mainly just stick to workwear or the type of shit mfa is known for.

Living in Fremont, about 20 minutes from SJ. East Bay isn't too fashionable, like everyone else said. There are a few great shopping spots in SF, like Barney's, Acrimony, Darkside Initiative, Maas and Stacks, etc.

But overall, no one is really interested in fashion. It kinda sucks.

Speaking to SF entirely, that's partially true most dress the same. It really depends on the neighborhood you end up in (i,e Marina, Nob Hill vs. Mission or Japantown). There are some places like Darkside Initiative, BAIT (just opened), Steven Alan, Blackscale, Unionmade, etc. You're better off going to the 6-story Nordstrom/Bloomingdale's and digging through the shit they have there. I picked up a pair of CP's for $300, and just recently a pair of APC's for $120.

i live in downtown san jose. common occurrences: huge packs of Vietnamese girls from Evergreen w/ similar style; black leather, michael kors bags, ombre, sundresses etc...yuppie women with 1500 dollar strollers decked out in north face...indian men in sandals and polo shirts from target...Filipino thug wannabees in fitted hats and jordans from milpitas/eastside...filipina sorority chicks in nike leggings & roshes...tall handsome men in fitted suits who work at the downtown wells fargo...nerdy, beta programmers w/ bad haircuts who wear old shirts with shitty insider puns...east bay is more grungy, acid birkenstock hippies and black people (oakland, berkeley, fremont). SF has a very high concentration of the same personality type. everyone seems to adopt the same style and habits of those in their circle which makes for a boring-ass place at the end of the day. same old yuppie shit, prius, patagonia, cannondales, 3rd wave coffee...there's not that much grit here. a lotta kids have parents who are professors at stanford or work at apple/google/etc and go to private school, do hours of homework, do extracurriculars, prep for SAT early, get into an ivy, and go from there. LA is more interesting.
