I don't get all these jap brands like kapital and nanamica that say they're inspired by classic American work wear but cost 10x more than actual American work wear. It being made in japan doesn't justify the price either unless you're a weeaboo

the unique thing about these brands is that they take american and japanese workwear and build upon those concepts until they have entirely unique products like these

it's not like they literally just make replicas of clothing you can buy from carharrt or dickies

that and they use relatively high-grade materials and construction techniques which oftentimes turn out to be very arduous and time-consuming

I think Kapital is different though. They are very concerned with the artful distressing of garments to create a more worn look and a lot of that is done by hand and uses high quality materials, which raises the price. Stuff that's just bland 'heritage' is often not worth the money, but if you can offer something unique I think it gives you license to charge more for it.

they're meticulously handstitched in a first world country so i guess that explains something. personally it wouldn't be fiscally responsible for me to buy $1200 jeans, but if someone finds value in them and has the disposable income then why not? it's not like they're some third world rags marked up 100000%. i think people are a bit too used to their shockingly cheap, made-in-bangladesh, virtually-slave-labour-but-technically-not clothes constructed from literally the cheapest available material, there's nothing wrong with demanding more from your clothes in terms of design, ethics or quality.

I havent even touched the whole history and construction aspect.

Guess which country bought a lot of the vintage manual construction machines back when they moved to mass production in the US?

I will concede though that vis has moved production to China. Kapital and the majority of jap denim brands is another story altogether.
