Don't take modelling seriously, if you do you've already lost because you're doing it for a means, rather than it being a means in itself.

Get in contact with some local agencies, check them out first. If you don't live in a capital / near a fashionable city it might be worth contacting some further away. My agency is London based but they have people from all over Europe.

Don't always try the big agencies, some smaller unknown ones are great too, and for one they will definitely look at your application.

Best advice for actually applying is to send a topless photo of yourself profiles, front and both sides. Don't just take it of your face, take it of your whole body and add some of you posing, act natural in your poses like i always lean against a wall and that seems to work fine.

I think average is like £1500 for the walk, bare in mind the walk is like one evening and you could do several walks a week duringi fashion week. photo shoots as in editorials are free, like even magazine front covers are free. I got offered a photo shoot for e-commerce, (Saks Fifth Avenue) and the rate was 800 euros for 4 hours. That's the only info I can give on e commerce.

The director of an agency happened to walk by and came running up to me and asked me a few questions (which i was too drunk to answer) and then gave me his card, I called him the next day and met them in person which was the most nerve wracking thing

Basically I sended the agency this, and some other poses that I often see models do. As a NEET I had nothing to lose so I took my chances and everything went better than expected.
I can also guarantee that you don't need take pictures with a pro to send to any agency, you pics just need to be "good" (read show you face and body clearly).

How do modeling agencies work? Do you have to pay first? How often do you get called for work?

okay well basically you never pay them anything, if anybody ever asks for any money from you it's a scam. Even before they've signed you, they will take free head shots of you to see if they want to sign you.

An agency is basically just like 10 people in a room booking shoots all day for people, they then ask you if you're available for a certain shoot, with a client, be it a magazine, a brand or just an amateur photographer. So I get like maybe 2-3 emails a week asking if I'm available, sometimes I get no emails because they know my availability, so because I got to University they don't contact me about shoots during my uni hours unless it's a big deal with lots of money. My agency take 25% of anything I earn, some agencies can take as much as 50. It's a weird relationship, they work for you but it feels like you work for them. Hope that helps

to be honest, the best advice i can give for people interested in the profession is to not listen to anybody saying "you could be a model" or you "couldn't be", you could be the most handsome man in /fa/ but if none of the agencies want you, then you're not gonna get in. Also it might be worth mentioning that a lot of models in the YSL shows don't have agencies at all, they're just people that YSL found off the street.

Beauty is subjective, most agencies might not like me, i might be too skinny or too tall, but my agency like me and they like me enough to wanna work for me, same with YSL and Alexander McQueen. Just apply to agencies, see what they think because they're the only people who matter, stop pining over what the people on /fa/ think because it's not those people you have to impress. There's no harm in applying, and like I said earlier, the small agencies do actually look at every application, because modelling isn't an exclusive profession, they'll take anybody they can get, they're not paying to keep you, the more models they have, the more chances they have of getting money so they're not as fussy as you all might think

Ive applied to so many agencies and they all say the same "We'd accept you, but our minimum height for runway models is 5'7, we will keep you as an alternate" crap. What do you do if youre 4'11 as a girl.

Question: Did you had any previous knowledge regarding to fashion before getting accepted to your first agency?

I model in hair magazines, fashion magazines and boutiques, and print advertisement in Japan. 193cm, Norwegian, I'm fluent in Japanese so it makes getting jobs much easier. I don't have an agent, I'm not a full time whatsoever but I have a photoshoot every 2 weeks or so, sometimes or less.

I also hold two other part time jobs for extra income because I make anywhere from $0-$1.5k a month from the modeling alone. Not a reliable source of income for me.

I've gotten jobs here in a few ways. Networking is important, as is going to beauty/fashion events around the city and just talking to people. Random scouts are somewhat common in places like Shibuya and Roppongi in Tokyo looking for potential gaijin candidates.

Some people submit portfolios to Japanese agencies from abroad, but I suppose you have to be pretty serious about the career/good looking for that to work. I know this only applies to Japan, but I'm sure a lot of other places too. feel free if you have questions.

I think the main reason was loneliness which is a totally underrated difficulty, I mean I loved Paris for the first week I was there, then the novelty wore off and I was away for three more weeks and there's fuck nothing to do in Paris after a week, especially since Ive been multiple times before.

I mean personally i'd love it and i would jump at the chance, even though i fucking hate sushi, but even I would get a bit sick after a month of Tokyo, especially if you're in a hotel, I was in a hotel for a month and it's like too short to propoerly settle down, but too long to just live out of your suitcase and it's the inbetweeny kind of feel that i hated
