Anyone ever into skin whitening? This question is directed toward people of (Southeast/South) Asian descent, specifically. I can't wear any neutral grays or browns because they clash (blend too much) with my skin tone, which is more of a medium where I feel like absolutely dark or light people can pull it off. Whenever I go back to Asia, I find these skin lightening ads everywhere and I am intrigued, though I was afraid to use it.

I'm sort of embarrassed to admit it, but I use some filipino skin lightening soap (I think the brand is called belo) to get rid of tans.

Not southeast asian though and most of my body is pretty pale, but my neck, face and hands seem to get tan pretty easily since I walk outside a lot.

As for the results, it's kind of weird. I'd say it leaves your complexion looking a little unnatural. Like you'll have a top layer of pale skin, but the undertones are still kind of tan so it looks kind of weird.

actually, in the asian context it is not wanting to be white, it's wanting to be pale like northern asians like chinese and japanese

in OP's pic (thailand) the ruling elite of the country, ie. those that drive trends, advertising and everything else important aren't thai but chinese

for the most part they are paler than the darkies selling noodles on the street (most real thais)

the chinois also never have to do manual labour
ie. no sun
= pale

pale = rich and idle

in this particular case, it's not an attempt to ape europeans
