Stone Island appreciation thread

Rarely see this brand discussed here and I'm curious why. Know that they have a negative connotation in england because of hooligans but Massimo Osti is my favorite designer - he ran CP Company and founded Stone Island -

the guy was innovative as fuck, one of the first to do four process printing on fabric, garment dyeing, temperature sensitive fabrics, rubber flax/rubber wool. Love how they do everything in-house and are so firmly based on military designs

will be posting some Osti designs feel free to chime in

It's high end stuff, so its a status symbol. It also helps that Stone Island's pieces usually incorporate tech to keep the wearer warm/dry etc, which is handy when you're on an away day up North and it's freezing cold and pissing with rain.

Any advice on where to cop SI on a reasonable budget? Obviously people on England know the brand so it's hard to pick up cheap on eBay here.

OP here, I've had luck scoping out ebay auctions - key things to look for to avoid fakes are the ART # which tells you the year, season, and garment + country of origin. Can ID them also by the buttons & patches.

I've also grabbed items from etsy, thrift stores/consignment shops. Sometimes auctions on ebay.co.uk - much more popular/well known there but at times it's a lot of volume so you can snipe auctions well. UK outlet stores.

from the USA so there is no chav/casual connotation but massimo osti is without a doubt my favorite designer, just from an objective standpoint the guy pioneered so many dyeing methods & fabrics, didn't engage in runway shows and was constantly wanting to go farther and farther with the tech

You probably feel that way because the thread is almost entirely pictures of the clothing alone - not being modeled size xs-s on a gaunt asian manbaby-hybrid like most brands seem to do - like that industrial approach to stone island as a brand and how osti never did runway shows, wanted to simply present his garments without any pretense of who was wearing them

not really in the same vein but i feel like buzz rickson's is similar in that they go to ridiculous extents in terms of creating custom fabrics and hardware for their clothes, but they do it in order to make faithful reproductions of vintage pieces. everything is done in japan to a very high standard, and when you buy and wear a piece it's always nice to know that the fabric it's made of was designed and created with that exact garment in mind.

Not really familiar with buzz rickson but a cursory glance looks like they are very well made. milsurp threads on /k/ might be of interest, I love the cheap prices I can find for surplus clothing - considering how well made a lot of it is. experimenting with dyeing techniques and modifying jackets for a better fit, really wanting to get better at sewing/pattern making and eventually reverse engineering a lot of parkas I really enjoy but with a new lightweight membrane like taffeta nylon - would love to sell clothes in this vein but feel like the market is really over-saturated with generic streetwear and the aesthetic I like isn't really in any demand
