How weird is it to want a cologne that smells really unique? I want something that isn't really worn by very many people so that people will start to recognize and associate that smell with me.

I have a few recent cops from the last month.
Creed - Green Irish Tweed
John Varvatos - Artisan
Hermès - Voyage d'Hermes Parfum
Gucci - Pour Homme II

I'm still waiting on Voyage and Pour Homme II to arrive. Voyage was a blind buy, but all the reviews I read had nothing but good things to say about the fragrance. I managed to find a 1.6oz bottle of it for a decent price, so I copped it.

Artisan is a pretty decent, light, citrusy, summer fragrance, but it's definitely not for everyone, and I really don't recommend it at all. I can tell you that the fragrance does not have any redeeming values until about 2 hours in. For the first hour, the fragrance smells like orange glo, it's not 'til later that it dries down to a spicier, much less offensive scent. Even after the dry down, it reminds me of one of the Axe sprays that my dad wears. All this being said, I oddly seem to like it a little more with each wear.

Green Irish Tweed is definitely my favorite so far. A lot of people will just say that you can get a bar Irish Springs soap and smell the same, but that is just a complete fabrication. Whenever I smell GIT, it brings me to a lush, warm, green field in some remote location in Ireland(and I have never even been to Ireland). When it dries down even further, the scent reminds me of a musky, green rainforest. If I close my eyes and smell the fragrance, all I can think of is green plants and clear waterfalls. Green Irish Tweed is easily a 8.5/10 fragrance, and worth it if you can find a good deal on it. I can easily see this being my signature Spring/cool Summer day fragrance. I got this fragrance as a gift, so I am not just saying this because I have a decent amount of money invested in it.

I'll probably get around to posting what I think of Pour Homme II and Voyage in the next fragrance general.
I'm hoping to cop Sel Marin if the Anon in this thread has good things to say about it.

Like I said, it's defiantly not for everybody. I would suggest going to Macy's or something and testing it out on your skin. I happen to like it quite a bit when it dries down to it's lightest point. Reporting back
LP No.9 is downright offensive to me. Not anything like I expected. I'm not too great at identifying notes per say but it smells like bitter flowers that sorta has a old smell to it, I can't even really describe it. Definite no. Way too mature for me.

Prays Amber Pour Homme is nice, it's not too harsh straight out, it mellows quickly and has slightly less than moderate sillage I'd fair to say about arm length distance. It's very fresh like light flowers, and clean sheets. Very summery. The dry down is hugely similar to baby powder. Again doesn't smell particularly young but if I didn't have such a shit nose I'd say it's reminiciant of a overly effectionate aunt. I'd probably wear it again if I wanted to smell clean, maybe before or after a sporting event.

Still waiting on gaiac 10.

Well, it's not a citrus/fruity/mint/aquatic, but I think it's more refreshing than a lot of what's marketed as summer fragrance.

Fragrantica & parfumo tends to categorize everything with wood, spice, or a little depth as "winter". That's not always right. And even then, I wouldn't always want to be so on-the-nose with my choice.

I haven't ever gotten compliments on my Burberry Brit, but I wore sample of D&G Light Blue and got a compliment from the first person I ran into

I think it is just dependent on how much the scent projects, and how light it is.

I also think it is entirely dependent on the people you meet. I don't think random people are necessarily prone to say "you smell good" and you usually only get compliments from people who are comfortable being with you.

Just a thought, anyways

Restricting fragrances by season is just as silly as restricting fragrances by gender. While you may notice that certain notes evoke certain feelings (e.g. warmth, freshness) it's up to your personal taste. Some sweet scents, for example, may be too cloying in warmer weather but Wonderwood isn't really one of them. If you associate woody scents with the winter, however, you might not like Wonderwood for the spring or summer.

Here's the gist as to why fragrances tend to vary between seasons and day time:

First off, understand you don't HAVE to follow those regulations. There's people that could absolutely pull off a "winter/night" fragrance during the summer during the day. It's just that there's things like how in the summer people might want something more fresh, light, etc. You wouldn't want to wear Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille to the beach at summer. But as I said, if you can pull it off, go for it, chances are you probably won't though.

Second, temperature and humidity. There are fragrances that become far more noticeable during in certain temperatures, a bit anecdotal but works all around is how my girlfriend left a shirt of hers at my house and whenever the air conditioning comes on, the scent becomes far more noticeable and even more pleasant.

tl;dr: Humidity, temperature, perceived scents, you don't actually have to follow it, it's just highly recommended because some scents are DESIGNED to work better in different scenarios.

I think La Nuit is overrated. It smells like an unchallenging mall scent (can't compare to CdG or Creed or even Tom Ford), but lacks the versatility of lighter citrus/vetiver scents. I bought a 100ml bottle because it's so often recommended but I hardly ever find reason to wear it over something like Grey Vetiver. It's not loud enough for clubs (where honestly I'd prefer something like Aventus). I guess it's nice for dates? Still I could think of a dozen other scents I'd rather wear.

Well, when someone says that it tells at least one of these two things:
- They have no clue about how TF Tuscan Leather smells.
- They have no clue about how any kind of cocaine smells

Tuscan Leather is the scent of a leather jacket, pure and unadulterated. Most other notes are imaginary.

Pure lab-made cocaine, without any traces of solvents, will not have a smell. Your average on-the-street cocaine, regardless of if it is cut or not, will most likely have an aromatic gasoline/diesel smell due to solvent remnants from the production process, as well as from the anti-K9 masking of the packages before shipping. Re-rocked cocaine will possibly also smell like acetone and/or ammonia.

I have this one and I really enjoy it. It has that same mojito vibe as the original Homme but without the boozy-ness and it adds a really nice smoky vetiver base. I'd say you need to be a vetiver lover to enjoy this one as it is quite prominent. Because of that I think it does come off a bit more mature but the lime and mint keep it fresh enough that anyone could wear it.

From what I understand the original Homme is actually the weakest offering in the line, L'Eau is very nice but unfortunately hard to find and pretty expensive, the Intense version is great but really doubles down on that boozy note from the original

bought this while I was in Italy because it was cheap and it was my favorite of the CdG frags they had in stock. Getting more and more addicted to it, one of the few frags I have where I actually enjoy the smell after a couple hours more than when I first spray it. Reviews I read complain about low sillage and poor projection but I feel like those people have blown their olfactory faculties out because I can still smell it on clothes I wore earlier in the week. Also, it is nice that it remains wearable in warm weather despite its peppery, incense-y demeanor (has a lot to do with how it changes in the dry-down stage).

My daily signature is Molecule 01 and then I have been wearing the Blue Encens when I go out and on the weekends.

Basically. Nothing with too complex a body that will fight with what your "main scent" is. You're actually looking for something a bit...well...cheaper and less interesting. All you're trying to do is add the right extra notes to change the character of your main scent JUST enough so that you get the effect you're after. You might even want to consider absolutes/single-note scents so you can achieve a very specific combination.

Colombia has been the biggest producer for decades. They've just happened to be the biggest.

The "best" cocaine is simply the cocaine that is cut the least. The cocaine that is cut the least is generally the cocaine that is the closest to the original source, and some friends who have tried what they have to offer in South America says it's the best they ever had. That's just because they're getting cocaine that's cut 1-2 times max.

Now I don't do coke because I value my nose. Now, I do perfume.

I didn't want to like it either but kind of do? The problem is how artificial it smells. First like sour cherry candy, then still sweet, but like cinnamon hearts and powdery pepper (a bit like how Williams Sonoma smells in early October), then the dry down is kind of forgettable (floral, peppery). It's too light for me to actually buy but if I was still in high school I'd probably like it.

I don't find it bitter, but it reminds me a bit of incense without being too patchouli-ish. Remember that different people perceive scents differently and that it's possible that your coworker has really basic taste in fragrance.

I like tobacco and oud and enjoy wearing scents with each note (Back to Black and Amber Oud, respectively), but I find TF's tobacco oud a bit too much like an ashtray. It reminds me a bit of Ambre Sultan which I liked way more. It was a lot more complex. The spicy scents are more aromatic and it mixes up less. I don't know what it is about Tobacco Oud that I dislike but I think it also has to fit a certain kind of man. I don't like the smell of cigarette smoke (cigarettes and tobacco, yes, but not to the smoke) so that was a big deterrent for me
