I mostly do. I learned a lot already.
I got a few automatics now thanks to these threads but I'm still about pure utility and function when it comes to watches.

cop'd this one on the weekend because I need a good sturdy quartz daily beater that is a good allrounder watch, water resistant and not too flashy.

Pretty much me as well. I can't wear a watch at my job so I don't have a big collection and haven't added anything decent to it yet because my job is shit. Hoping to add some decent pieces, wrist watches have became a big interest of my recently

yeah, it's weird, back a few years ago I didn't even have any decent watches at all.

I just remember how my dad gifted me an ana-digi watch by Slazenger which looked fairly great but the quality was dodgy and the strap buckle kind of cut into my wrist. So I thought most watches are like that and people would constantly pester about wanting to know the time. it was annoying. So I stopped wearing one altogether. Well, things are different now and now it's more exciting again.

A Rolex is not that hard to afford, even if your means aren't exactly lots, but if you really want one and you -sadly- don't handle enough disposable income to buy it on the fly, you can:

1. Save during a loooong time to finally get one.
2. Sell something that helps you reach the budget you need.
3. Get the money lend to you. (Don't do this. Please. It's not worth it.)
4. Realize you don't really need it until you can afford it easily and move one and be happy with what you can afford.

(Options 1, 2 and 3 includes prasing the Lord nothing ever happends to the watch. Ever.)

the styling is pulled from old german bauhaus design, which unfortunately means that your two options are semi-expensive (think $350+) german made watches, or cheap chinese watches that pulled their designs from the german watches.
if you absolutely have to have the style and can't save up for something german, just get it. you'll just have to accept that you're not going to get the highest quality product.
rodina makes a watch that's bauhaus-styled but it has half of the numbers marked on the dial which you might not like.

On one hand I have a $250 replica that might look very good, but won't foolish any watchmaker or real connoisseur for a long time, that'll make me feel nervous if someone ask me to see it (it happens a lot to me) and that -given that if I had to go for the replica it will probably means I don't hold enough disposable income for the real deal-, will immediately make my friends and family (the persons closer to me and that matters the most) think that I bought a replica, since they know I can't afford a authentic one, and therefore maybe think badly of me as well.

In the other hand I have a cool cushion shaped Citizen with the great caliber 8700, with perpetual calendar and great design that will probably last longer than me and is as reliable as any high-end swiss watch if not even more. It is also as real as it gets and doesn't tries to be anything else.

In this scenario I will alway choose the Citizen.

it really doesn't matter. I have to green one and I plan to get the SNK807 in blue as well because it's a bit more versatile for color combinations. but in general you could wear all colors well regardless of age.

for example, you could switch for a brown leather strap for the sand colored one and it would look gorgeous. same with beige colored multi-color nato straps. why? because the beige strap it comes with is the only one that's not as suitable for everyday wear imo. the real question is: is your skin more tan? then get the beige one. are you more pasty? black.

In terms of dial color, it depends on your preference but personally I'd get the beige one despite being pasty because black dials are really boring imo. But they might be a bit easier readable.

it's really up to you what color you like more. a lot more people would get the black one of course. yet another reason to go with beige imo.

As far as flieger style dials go, the black dial seems more "correct", and most of my male friends told me that they prefer the black dial as well. But I don't really like that the background of the day and date wheels are black like the dial face. Hence I have been leaning towards the beige dial. >As far as flieger style dials go, the black dial seems more "correct"

yeah, that's true. the Laco Fliegers and the Damasko D36 or Sekonda Flieger are all usually black as well.

>But I don't really like that the background of the day and date wheels are black like the dial face.

it's just a very minor thing. again, you can read white on black easier than the other way round. when in doubt the blue one has white background for the date window. unless you hate blue.

>I don't know if this is a bonus, but my sister and female friends all seem to prefer the beige dial.

it's a weird gender cultural thing sometimes. males usually prefer black clothing, jewelry, etc. and women prefer more white or cream colored stuff. I don't know why. Nothing wrong with you picking beige though.

>But whichever one I get, I probably won't be changing the strap.

it was just a suggestion. subjectively, the beige strap doesn't look as nice but it would benefit from a different colored leather strap to have better contrast with the dial.

Wealthcore is a retarded term, but a submariner is horrible for that. Most faked watch in history, only time anyone wouldn't think it's fake is if the rest of your outfit/vehicle already makes you look well-off. AP would be a better choice, even though I hate them, even more so for Richard Mille, both brands make horrible looking pieces.

My suggestion? Go for something like the JLC Duometre Spherotourbillon Moon, or anything with a Tourbillon really. No one unfamiliar with watches will know the brand, but they sure as hell will be able to tell it looks expensive as fuck, way more than with an AP

>>oh god why

I went to check the previous wealthcore and inmmediately regreted it; the opinios about looking down to others and the importance of being treated like hot shit at stores disgusted me.

That been said, a wealthcore watch should be something really special IF the person is really into watches, if not, any solid base brand like AP, VC, PP, AL&S or Rolex should suffice. However, if we're talkin wealthy WIS here a Richard Mille might be a bit too flashy as well.

I think something niche, beautiful, sofisticated, a bit hard to recognize and extremely well made should be the go to wealthcore watch, like a high complication from the brands I previously mentioned or a De Bethune; more precisely, the DB16 Tourbillon Regulator. Pic related.

Magnifier is correct, and date font is correct. The easiest way with a submariner is to look at the bezel insert, because only TC has gotten the correct finish on it. Hard to describe how to notice it, you just have to really know how a submariner looks.
I'd need a closer look at the datejust but it looks real from here.

swatch literally is for quirky designs in watches.

I'm gonna cop it despite the usual swatch flaws like shit plexiglass, oversized, too expensive and no lume because I still dig the design so much and this line comes with steel cases and not plastic shit. I know, I guess it's terrible to like it.

That and the contrasting black face are what I really liked about it. I prefer gold tone / plated as I often pair them with other jewelry, most often times a golden curb link chain and a golden curb link bracelet.

Damn you have incredible taste. Three of my favourite watches ever right there. Is this for mainly office wear?

Also you mentioned, and rightly so, that many people will immediately assume the GS is a cheap watch. Have you considered that a few people would consider the GO to be an ALS knock off? A $10k homage? I personally have no issue, but it might be something to consider. Also the GO isn't exactly clean and uncluttered.

Still, I'd personally want the GO on my wrist. I've been infatuated for two years now.

Yes, mostly office, but it's not like the place has that much of a dress code, it's nominally business dress, but a lot of people don't wear ties, girls wear what I'd consider to be too tight, too short dresses, there are people wearing casios and almost every girl has some rose gold monstrosity.

I figure that anyone who knows enough about watches to know who lange and glashuette are won't be bothered.

I can see what you mean about it having a lot going on, but to me, it does look uncluttered, because there's a lot of blank space. When I say clean and uncluttered, I mean not Breitling tier.

Things to look for - they are quite small (but then again quite discreet and will tie in with everything else). Also main is generating rattling noise - sometimes it feels like balance wheel or other inner parts, sometimes like its strap.

Well in that case I think you should go and try each one on if you can. What's your wrist size?

I've always loved your watch. I'm looking for a vintage Omega watch that's automatic. Not that I mind winding it every morning before my first cup of Earl Grey but it would be quite easier.

>> No.9527349

>>9527327
I didn't realize that the seamasters were handwinds, is that true for all of them from that era? Honestly I know very little about other omegas from that time period, I just happened to inherit this one.

Are the seamasters really supposed to be for swimming/diving, or what? The name seems to suggest that they're at least somewhat water resistant, but that sure looks like a dress watch to me.

From what I understand the constellation line was omega's top of the line and they were all chronometer certified automatics. The seamasters look very similar but a bit less fancy and instead of being chronometers they're water resistant, is that it?

also SNK809, check it out.

Yeah they actually didn't make alot of automatic back then. Here's a picture of my one on the inside. I'm going on a watchmaker school. As for water resistance I wouldn't swim with them, although it has a rubber ring on the inside which adds protection. Even though it says seamaster it's not the most water resistant watch. It can do rain and to be soaked for 5 meters. That's what my teacher said.

Here's also a picture inside

That looks really nice, I love the copper color of the omega movements. Here's mine too, in the state I found it in before I sent it off to get fixed. I hate that automatic movements are so much less interesting to look at, though.
