not everywhere has a giant clock on display, especially not when doing anything outside of a town or city

why would you argue against having the time on your wrist and within sight whenever you need it?

>> No.9505506

>>9505487
Because people go through daily effort to keep their phones from running out of battery. They live in spaces where every building has a visible clock, and some buildings have at least one in every room. Even outside of towns and cities. Asking other people has benefits beyond just learning the time, but that's mostly inconsequential, as it's exactly as useful and archaic as having a watch. Why are you arguing for redundancy upon redundancy and affectation upon image-manipulating affectation when all it really is, is yet another piece of jewelry for your boring ass arm. Stop being so fucking pretentious. You had to literally make shit up to justify having a watch.

when i have shit to do either in the army or out and about i have a responsibilty to other people to get to places on time without fucking them over.

Having a watch is the most basic insurance policy for knowing the time, it's designed just to tell you that.

It's damage resistant, water resistant and just fucking there. No high battery drainage or forgetting to charge it, it's just there on your wrist

why would you argue against having an extra insurance policy like that? Do you just sit behind your computer all day?

Should i fumble about in my pocket while i'm trying to run to know how well i'm doing? Or while i'm riding my bike? Yeah i'll just whip out the iPhone while swimming

How often do you check the time UNDERWATER you fucking idiot? And yeah, I whip out my phone when I'm running all the time. It's easy. The time is always displayed. My phone, by the way, is damage resistant, water resistant, and has a battery life of multiple days. It also makes calls, connects to the internet, and has a pretty decent camera. The only thing it's not is some affectation I slap onto my wrist so everyone sees it all the time. It's not jewelry, bongistani. Image for the sake of image is the very definition of pretense, no matter how much it costs you.

The problem is, I can't reliably attach my phone to myself without using clothes. If I go the gym or take a shower I can't have the phone with me, so it's a more useful reflex to look at a watch when you need to check the time.

Also, having a watch has social value because looking at a watch sends a different message than looking at a phone.

There's no such thing as waterproof. That's a bullshit advertising term from back in the day that can't be used any more because it's a lie. Watches are water resistant to various pressures.

Anything water resistant to 50 meters or more is good enough for the shower, rain, or swimming. If you're constantly working in water or actually going under the water you might want more water resistance that that.

Get a terrorist watch and stick a nylon nato strap on it. You'll look like a special forces terrorist and it'll never break. 18mm should fit.

>> No.9512293

>>9512116
it's not that easy. WR is usually a selling point. So the more expensive it is, the more water resists is indicated in product descriptions.
A lot of times the specifications aren't the same for every watch manufacturer.

it's weird because the 3 bar WR Seiko 5 SNK whatever still doesn't die at all once you go snorkeling with it. That's pretty damn awesome. Some dudes on amazon actually tried it out and never had a problem. It only supposedly has 3 bar because of the glass caseback and because it's a cheap watch.

On the other hand if you buy a quartz watch from some shit brand that's only 3 bar, then way less than that might kill the watch in no time once you expose it to water.

anyway, Casio is kinda shit. Most of their watches look cringe as fuck. Especially their analog ones. Casio Edifice have good functionality but almost all look like shit. The digital ones look fine but Casio thinks that digital watches for some reason don't deserve a stainless steel case which is pretty terrible to begin with. So I don't know why niggers fall for silver and gold painted plastic cases acting like it's fine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_Resistant_mark

It may be used as a selling point, but those numbers are supposed to mean something.

Of course if your shit said "Diver's" on it it's good. My experience is that Casio understates their water resistance. I'd trust a 100m Casio for scuba any day.
