I'm a size UK 9, if I copped a 9 they're only going to stretch out more and they'll look humongous, CP's are quite long as is.

I sized down and apart from a slight bit of warping (I have quite wide feet) they're very comfortable. I was going to sell them when I first got them because they were way too small but I stuck with them and they're perfect now.

When I was researching getting a pair I didn't know whether they meant size down a UK size (in my case from 11 to 10 or European size which I think for me was from a 46 to a 45?) I took it to mean European size and I think that's the best option.

If you're buying retail (everyone reccommends not doing this but who gives a shit) I'd suggest buying from Mr Porter unless you can find a better deal elsewhere. They have a very generous 28 day free returns policy, they come and collect from your house etc so it's definitely worth doing so if you're still unsure about the size. Bear in mind though that they will stretch a slight amount, out the box isn't the greatest measurement of how they will fit after a few months but it's accurate enough.

Use hydrogen peroxide to get the blood out of the suede inners. Wipe down blood on leather outer with water.

i have stan smiths and i've handled CPs in a store. the leather feels just about the same quality-wise; to the touch stans are a little more textured while CPs were smoother. the only major difference is that stans are like puffy under the leather and all the angles are very rounded out, while CPs are flat with sharply creased angles.

if you bear with me for a second here's a diagram i drew of each shoe. the gray lines represent an x-ray view showing how thick/padded it is inside under the leather. stans are puffy and airy, CPs are sharply flat straight to the seams.

personally i'd actually rather get stans because they're more comfortable and wearable being puffy like that, and i can just tell that if CPs don't fit then they will slice your ankles like OP

most cps i've handled feel like they use top-grain. which, while not as thick or sturdy as full grain, is usually treated to make the grain feel more refined and less rugged. which, for cps minimal aesthetic, is better.

the leather that cp uses is far superior to the plasticized grain scraps that adidas uses.
