Hey, guy in the photo here. Ask your hair dresser to shave in your sides to a 2/3 about 2 INCHES ABOVE YOUR EAR. Get the back shaved but blended in, instead of leaving an overhang like the sides. Leave a fringe around 5 inches long and the top heavily layered at around 3/4 inches long.

What I would do to give it the textured look it has in the photo was simply put my hand on my head, and rub in circles until it tangled and stuck up. I know that sounds weird, but i'd just do it all over my head and then shape it. Pull the fringe to the side and that's literally it. No products.

To make it work better, start washing your hair once every 2/3 days rather than everyday. it's better for your hair to do that anyway :)

P.s. I have pretty thick hair so that might be useful to know x

sorry for the delayed replies, playing league haha. It doesn't really, as if you cut it to the length of the style in the photo, it doesn't sit back well. However, if you grow it out a little bit, you can.

I started growing mine out about 6 months after the photo was taken, and I started to slick my hair back but continuing to shave the sides. And then totally lost any style and grew my hair out to shoulder length for a year.

So to answer your question, yeah it's ok, just grow it out from the style of the photo:)

Work on keeping your hair in better condition, get yourself a conditioner and stop shampooing your hair every day. Try to get it to once every 3/4 days if you can manage. Get a hair brush, not a comb. Consider getting the sides of your hair trimmed since you already have a wide head. It'll kill off all those loose curls and waves.

Either kill the beard, or let it grow to full lumberjack. But your growth is too weak to keep it as it is in the photo and have it look good.

Here's my hair now in comparison to the photo, about 2 and a half years in difference and it's pretty much the same, although my sides are now shaved higher (not by my choice, new barber fucked it up assuming I wanted half my head shaved off), and my hair is slightly longer as I'm due a cut. Stop your regimen immediately. Only use shampoo once a week unless you get ridiculously sweaty.

Wash your hair with just water, and use conditioner. Pretty much any conditioner will work fine.

If you have a habit of washing your hair in extremely hot water (like, scalding hot), then try turning the temp down a bit, that could help.

If you're out in the sun on a daily basis, that could also be a factor. Consider a hat when working outdoors. Maybe a baseball cap or something.

man you know at this point it's hard to even say. I started with an undercut, then grew it down my neck, then I got that cut to about half that length and I haven't cut it since then. That was probably... a year and half ago i'd say. So if starting from really short it's probably almost two years growth. But it really hasn't grown much longer in the past six months or so. Just some of the damaged sides have grown since I started taking better care of them. Also the second cut was like patrick bateman's. Far as the beard I just lucked out with that I was able to grow nearly everything by the time I was 19, took until maybe 21 for the mustache to connect tho

Looks pretty good now. You might look better now but the picture on the right has much worse lighting making the earlier one look better.

Your hair also slicked back better in that first photo. In the second it stands out apart from your face more, probably because it's just more even and round.

Nopoo works well with your cut but stick with it for two months and if it doesn't work out abandon ship. I had good results for awhile but after a few months I shampoo'd again and got mad compliments on my hair. Personally, I water down my shampoo and use less of it every day or so and it has worked out really well.

TBH I don't think it would be worth it to diy. Just buy mousse or a pomade. A diy would consist of salt, water. If you add essential oils to yours it would be stupid because they are not soluable on water, so they'd just float on top in the container. Retail versions are going to have chemicals to keep the essential oils from seperating with the water like glycerine and pvp.

If you're into diy stuff look into deodorant. Only three ingredients (coconut oil, baking soda, and corn starch, plus essential oils if you're fancy) and it actually works better than store bought. I live in florida so it's the equivalent to living in satan's asshole, humid and hot. The antiperspirant part of the deodorant never worked and after wearing it for a few hours it always started to smell bad, not even like BO it was just like the deodorant putrefied and smelled nasty. Been wearing diy for 2+ months now, it's amazing and always smells like delicious coconuts.

Thanks fam. I've been trying to work on the acne for years. I've been using mandelic face wash, vitamin A serum, 10% benzyl peroxide formula and CeraVe every few nights but it's still pretty bad. I might have to just go to a derma since I have pretty bad acne on my shoulders too.

What's a good shampoo and conditioner for typical Asian hair? The type that sticks out and looks lifeless after shampooing. Been thinking about going conditioner only too but that might not have enough cleaning.

I use shampoo for oily hair, the one with the lime extract and all. I don't use conditioner since my hair would look greasy and too soft afterwards. I wash my hair once every two days and use clarifying shampoo every two weeks.
