The only nice watch I have is a gold capped 60s Omega Constellation. I'd post a photo, but it's been at the watchmaker for like 3 months now because I rescued it out of a drawer where it was unused for 30 years. I'm finally supposed to get it back next week though so I'm pretty excited.

generally a watch is the only real piece of jewelry most men actually wear (i dont need to tell you this is a male dominated site), so it makes sense to either splurge and look for quality, or seek for however much quality you can find at your price point.

also personally i think the fact that its on your wrist contributes, you see your watch literally all the time, it's nice to look down and see something you know is quality/proud of. alot of fashion oriented watches aren't good quality, but quality watches can be fashionable if that makes sense.

I'm studying at university but work in men's fashion at a higher end department store to pay the bills. Although I loathe the job, nearly everyday I see something interesting a customer has, from a nautilus chrono to ROO's and to VERY rarely (only once) a 5970. As a side note, Rolex wearers are massive tight arses in my experience.

This guy was a traveller from Norway in his 60s. He has a bit of a collection and promised to bring in his blancpain next time he was in as I mentioned I badly want a 92' split-second villeret . I saw the strap with the gold patek seal on it before I saw the watch so knew he would have something interesting. I've seen a million pictures of Patek movements but they simply don't do justice to when you see one in the flesh. The polishing and detail on the microrotor alone was insane.

Hey guys, I got this watch for my birthday. The only thing I've been able to find out is that its supposed to be is that its a boy's size datejust, model 68273. My parents say they bought 20+ years ago, but that its otherwise brand new.

Can anyone tell me anything else about it? e.g is the movement out of production, will it be hard to service, is it even real? It runs well enough, but if its so old, will it need servicing? Is it ok to wear it if I am a guy?

A moonphase is just a kind of cool complication to add to a watch face. It's pretty, it's not TOTALLY useless (maybe you're an amateur astronomer wanting to do some lunar observation. You can approximately know when the moon will rise or set by the phase indicated). You can also add things like maybe have a monthly calendar going around it. I'm probably biased because I do astronomy, so it ties two hobbies together.

The font for the 2 initially gave me pause because they're normally much sharper but I did find a few models that had date wheels like that.
If it's a replica, it's one of the best I've ever seen. Obviously a movement shot would allow 100% certainty but I'm going to assume that you don't want to bother with trying to open a rolex caseback. I'm gonna say that it's real.

honestly, a lot of women got shit watch taste. the fuck do they wear? fucking espirit watches, michael kors, fossil garbage and any easy recognizable fashion brand watch with shit movement. never seen a woman with an automatic movement either. they are just not as curious about horology in general.

no offense to female watchmakers in the making or similar or those who are indeed knowledgeable.

I have taken watchmaking courses before and let me tell you that, obviously, not being a shaky bastard is important, but it isn' as hard as you might think. If you become a watchmaker, you'll use special tool that are designed to minimize such sort of problems, like tall workdesks (that actually carries your arms and places the watch almost the same level that your face), slightely magnetized screwdrivers and very powerful loupes wich will allow you to work easily and with calm.

Give it a try dude, ypu have nothing to loose. Good luck friend!!

It's beautiful, simple as that. But, in the past, at times when there wasn't electrical ilummination, people depended on moonlight to make all kind of stuff at nights and therefore needed to know when were going to be the brightest nights without having a calendar at hand, wich gave birth to the age of the moon complication (29 1/2 days) and then, the moonphase.

Definitely switch to a leather strap. Do you know the serial number on the movement? Do you know when the watch was last serviced?
Don't send it to Omega for service, they'll polish the shit out of it and it'll come looking brand new. If you like the old look to it take it to an independent jeweller who can service it.

I like mine, I can dress it up with a super jubilee band or relax it and put a NATO on it. Plus the lume on it is second to none that i've seen

Personally not too hot on the idea of a sporty diver with roman numbers.
Looks bulky and brand alone makes sure that it's quite a few thousands.
Microbrand diver and pre-owned tank / reverso would be a more sensible option but if you're loaded and want it why not.

You should never rest the balance assembly on its bottom pivot like that, especially on a watch as old as a pocket watch.
