If you like minimalism you might want to look into sacred geometry tattoos, but more than anything else try and find pictures that aren't "fresh" or buried in photo filters (easier said than done I confess). For larger more thicker pieces the fade/blur might not be as pronounced as in smaller works.

You can't specialise in a style and be shit at it. Also the training and all that (in England) is so slapdash that it's basically non-existant. Just get an apprenticeship in a shop and when you have a decent portfolio and have all the necessary legal bullshit, hey presto, your a tattoo artist.

That by no means means that you can be taught the skill. If your crap at drawing youll have to start there first.

Colours will fade a little. If you got a tattoo over it you'd still see it. If you mean go over every line in black, it would cover it.

Covers are always an option, but don't get a tattoo thinking you can cover it in the future, always plan things long term. The idea is interesting though, and seeing how things are currently, original ideas are always the best.

We're very used to it. If it's a well known shop that has artists that specialise in only a certain style and are known for it and always have appointments, then obviously don't go to them, but "normal" artists are used to it and just see it as easy money, we really don't care too much about it, but we'll always offer suggestions if you come in asking for something too absurd. In fact, most shops survive on these small stupid tattoos girls saw on Pinterest or on a celebrity.

2. You buy a tattoo machine, a power supply, ink, and all the other gear and practise on fake skin, pig ears, pig skin or even oranges. It's very important that you practise drawing and that you are naturally artistic. I can't believe how many tattoo "artists" call them selves artists, most of them are shit at drawing and have shit taste, and unfortunately people still go to them.

You can learn on your own but it's a hundred times better to get an apprenticeship, you'll learn faster, have someone to criticise your work, get a better feel for it. If you're applying for one, prepare plenty of designs, try to be a somewhat original, and only apply when you're already considered good at drawing, don't expect an apprenticeship to magically make you better because there are too many artists nowadays and only the best will prevail and be able to learn in the good shops.

Being paid as an aprentice all depends on the shop and guy showing you. Some will make you take appointments and tidy the shop and might not even let you tattoo for months, others will basically advertise you as a cheaper option because you're an apprentice, others will ask clients if they want a small tattoo for free done by the apprentice.

It all depends on the quality of the shop. I've seen people being called apprentices who are ten times better than artists who own their own shops, and then I've seen apprentices who are basically shop assistants.

3. Be a naturally artistic person who's talented at drawing. Be original. If you think what you do is good, then try to make yourself twice as good. Be humble and don't let the money go to your head. You're not always right and don't convince yourself that mediocre is "good enough". Specialise in a certain style and don't try to be a jack of all trades because those are the worst artists, but also remember you wont start off doing things you like.

It's a tough game at the moment, if you really want it then you'll get it, just work very hard on your designing and drawing. Also, don't immediately start tattooing friends for free, get a feel for it and practise on those fake skins. Tattoo people for free until you're good enough to charge or you manage to get an aprenticeship. Don't do big tattoos in your first few years either, start simple, master that simple and move on to the next step.

I'll just say it again in case I wasn't clear enough. If you want to be good and "make it" then it's very important you stand out and be the absolute best you can. Spend as much time as you can drawing and improving your tattooing skills. No pain no gain, like anything, you need to invest most of your time into it if you want to be good and better than the rest.

There's a lot of bad artists out there but a lot of good ones too.

I know but some styles are effected far more heavily than others. Its for that reason why American Traditional tattoos last better than say minimalist works which rely on fine lines and or dots.
