Curious as to /fa/'s opinions on Corcoran Jumper Boots?

I currently own a pair of Iron Rangers but the corkscrew sole is horrible with anything icy or snow covered.

Heard an anon suggest them but I don't know much about what kind of good brands that sell this type of shoe. Also want to make sure that these boots will hold up better in snowy conditions than my Iron Rangers or else there would be no point in copping.

Also boots general

They're low quality and basically a similar design to the IRs. If you want better traction, Red Wing makes a boot I can't recall the name of. It's a plan-toe IR with a lugged sole.

Are you talking about the Beckman? I know that they use a different sole than IRs.

RW heritage line + snow = red wing ice cutters

i don't know why you bought IR's for winter op
didn't you look at the soles before you bought them?
it's well documented that they're shit boots for most wet situations

Varusteleka has similar boots
I got the ankle boot version of them and they are pretty fucking good quality, usually I pay over 200 dollarydoos for shoes like these but I guess the design isn't for everyone.

I have a pair and I love them. Only two complaints: They take forever to get on and off, so not the best choice for airport security. Also, after about 18 months I had to have the heels replaced. This was after I wore them every day, including on a few hiking trips. Otherwise, they're awesome.

Corcoran is known to have the best quality of military issued boots.

I have a pair of Filson Highlanders that serve me pretty well in the winter (pic related but not mine). They're also insulated so they're nice and warm.

As another anon mentioned, tall boots take a while to put on.

Corcoran doesn't actually make military boots any more as far as I know. They're living off their reputation from WW2.

Oh, I knew they weren't good in icy conditions but I never intended to use them as my only pair of boots.

Just looking for a decent beater to wear in harsher conditions. Would rather get another decent boot for the price of Ice Cutters.

Thanks anon. I'll check these out.

I'll take suggestions for other alternatives too. Like I said all I need is a decent beater that doesn't look like shit.

It's funny that I'm wearing these boots right now. I got them just this fall. They are full grain corrected grain leather, so the creasing may not be as beautiful and it looks a little plasticy during the break-in period. I'm willing to say that now they are very comfortable boots, despite the munsen last that is somewhat awkwardly shaped.

They are the most slippery, bar none, when they are wet and on linoleum, they slip some on ice, but handle snow pretty well. I have a pair of ll bean lugsole katahdins that are obviously better, but these are a close second.

I don't know if it was just me, because I've had this problem with all three pairs of boots that I own, but the laces were too short for me to lace them up all the way. I ended up buying paracord and making my own laces which has worked so far. What I love and hate most about these boots is their height. It's the sole purpose I bought them, I couldnt manage to find anything of the same quality that was that tall. I end up unlacing them 3 holes and loosening them all the way down, which I really don't mind when I'm by myself, but when I'm with friends and just what to slip them on, it's a pain in the ass.
It is also gratifying to tighten the boot up as you lace it.

In the end, if you are looking for an inexpensive, full grain leather, goodyear welted, tall boot this is your best bet. oh, and worn more thing, the salt will kind of fuck up the corrected grain finish on these so be diligent about wiping it of in the winter.

The last is shaped like that for a reason; it's meant to correctly fit as many different shaped feet as possible.
You should read "The Soldier's Foot and the Military Shoe" by Dr. Munson some time. It's surprisingly interesting.
