You know the problem I've always found with punk steez is your essentially just throwing on your dads wardrobe if he was an edgy guy in the 80's. It's dadcore now, how do you keep it fresh?

Hardcore style is sort of the closest thing we have to a true punk ethos in clothes; black tee, black vans, black dickies. It's unassuming style brings the ethos out of the clothes. I'd like to see punk go full circle- stick it to the man by dressing better than him. Dudes with mohawkes in 3 piece suits, ties patterned like nooses, covered in tatts- doc martens spit polished under pants cut full and wide; how badass and confusing would that be?

I feel personally responsible for these threads, because i used to post about my crust pants all the time. I've been into punk for years, but i happen to live in an area with a super minimal scene. So I posted on /fa/ because people liked my clothes, i never in my fucking life expected non punks to try to fucking wear punk clothes.

this is probably the worste thread about punk clothes i've seen on /fa/ though. I do agree that you should listen to punk music and follow some sort of punk ideals if you want to consider yourself punk. doesn't really matter what you believe as long as you have strong convictions and are interested in the subculture. I've been part of a scene for about 4 years now, I'm 21, and when I started out I was decked fully in rolled up skinny jeans on combat books, ripped shirts, studded jacket, mohawk, etc.

Now I wear pretty much band shirts that age naturally, black/white jeans, motorcycle boots/docs, a plain biker jacket with some pins and a flannel or sweater. usually just go with a shaved head as far as hair.

Punk is a pretty extensive scene, alot of people who consider themselves punk have no idea about any of the modern DIY scene beyond Ceremony or some shit. Not to mention the separation between the subgenre cliques.

Well, the style of punk you're describing is certainly reaching a peak these days. But please consider that this type of 80's revival revival is pretty new. 2 or 3 years ago, nobody was doing this freak punk hing and all the hardcore kids were decked out in supreme, northface and youth crew shirts.

If you want to stay ahead of the game I suggest morphing to a more post-punk oriented look. Think Ian Curtis, Jesus and Mary Chain, you know. Because this freak punk thing is already on it's way out. All the new bands are emulating it, everybody is trying to outdo eachother in terms of "weirdness" and it's starting to feel fake.

Punk/hardcore moves in cycles. Clean cut postpunk is coming back. After which it'll probably resort back to cookiecutter youthcrew.

I agree to an extent. I don't dress very "weird" myself, but for sure the bands I've listed are what you're describing and they're my favorites. As far as the clean-cut, plenty of punk bands dress in extremely nice, clean cut clothes, notably the Danish bands like iceage.
The current trend espouses weirdness to an extent, but most of those bands are nowhere near as good as the ones like CS or DoH in terms of originality in their sound.

I agree, CS and DoH are by far the most original when it comes to sound. CS was one of the first bands I ever saw in that style of punk. Must be somewhere in 2012 during some eurotour. Everybody round here was still on the youthcrew and/or already on the OSDeathMetalripoff vibe so nobody got what the fuck this band of punxweirdos was about.
Problem is that the pendulum tends to swing to fast and the wide in the punkscene. Somebody does something new, give it three years and it's overdone.

for example: Nails started ripping of entombed, two years later we're up to our neck in swedeath bands.
for exampls: Boston Strangler's s/t came out, everybody went nuts on the internet. Two years later we're up to our neck in Xclaim!revival bands. (even though the peak hasn't been hit yet like it has with that swedeath worship).

Exactly what I mean. When you dissect Cülo it's basically Ramones-riffs with added weirdness. It's mostly in their look and behavior. And people tend to copy look and behavior because punk/hardcore is full of angsty white kids looking for an identity.

This inspired a shit load of other bands, some of which in turn played with the look and format and now here we are debating what's "weird", who's doing it and who does it best.

I haven't browsed /fa/ in awhile but from what I've seen I'm pretty surprised there aren't whole threads dedicated to these dudes. Although tbh to pull this look off you need to be in shape or at least appear to be, be handsome and constantly appear to be vaguely annoyed.
I personally love this band, seen them twice and both shows were amazing. They're really nice too. They have a mixed reputation because of their tendency to blur genres, and their latest release is one of (imo) the best of the past year. Of course, loads of punks think they're boring hipsters who are an entry level hack band, so take that for you will.

The dude who asked for more coherent stuff, check out "plowing into the field of love", it's their album I mentioned.

The members played in Cult Ritual, Church Whip, Neon Blud, Dads, along with various other social projects.

They're def older than 19. but for instance I started at 17 and that's considered a year or two later than most. Most punks, including these guys, start going to shows and forming bands in their mid teens, some even before they start high school, and so you can be 24 And have spent ten years of your life dedicated to playing music in however many bands.

If you can, get your hands on the LP version of Innersense. It comes in a mirrorlike reflective/metallic cover and includes a zine. The zine is called "welcome to the fantasy zone" or something and contains ramblings and art by meatdog topped off with cut 'n past pictures of disney princesses. It's the epithome of weird.

Gag is just stylistically on top of their game. Everything checks out and I think a lot of bands are secretly ripping them off. That intro/squeeze video is truly mindblowing. It made me want to run to the nearest thrift store and buy and oversized trench coat.

I'm in North-east scotland and basically no one ever tours here so we had to build up our own scene and we now have a really cool DIY community thing going on.
