Omega - "James Bond wore this watch"
Seiko - it's technically as good as swiss watches!
Nixon - hypebeasts who saw it on a streetwear site

Ah thanks man, happy you found it funny.

The only reason any of it is even mildly funny is because I actually am a true watch lover. I like to poke fun, but I love watches too. At the same time I feel the prices of the ultra premium are way out to lunch, I guess it's good for the uber rich but I just can't help but feel they could cost so much less even without compromising horological identity. But that's my opinion.

Here's muh family of watches, the GUB and my vintage Komandirskie are both being serviced by kebab-removers, they might come back joined by a vintage Seiko Panda chrono. My personal favourites in this collection are the Damasko DA44 Black because dat steel and coating and my off-being-serviced Glashutte GUB Spezichron. That isn't to say I don't love my Sinn 856, Steinhart "not a ripoff of IWC Big Pilot guise :^)" and Amphibia.

Honestly, for value for money, I feel Vostok is leagues ahead of everyone else. Their movements may be plebeian, but they're in-house and quality and $80 for an auto diver is insane. Just splurge $20 on a NATO or rubber strap instead of the junk bracelet and you're good.

I myself want to practice law, but no idea on specialization I am considering divorce or criminal. What's your choice? I also feel a litle glad, this is my collection and I AM 22. But maybe you bought an even bigger boy watch at that age lol, I'm nowhere near Patek, though used Rolex and definitely Omega would be possible. Can't say they thrill me; I actually really like Rolex's design but they charge way too much for their product.

>>9374778
>muh feelings
Sorry to trigger you, princess

>>9374785
Actually, Rolex is a good product It's just overpriced for what it is. If you want one, I suggest you go ahead and get it but remember it IS what generic richfags do and they certainly aren't that great. Same time, depreciation will be very low compared to other brands.

>> No.9374823

>>9374785
My comment got too long.

If you want other brands to consider, including some of the ones I made fun of, for your price bracket consider the following and choose a design that speaks to you:

If you want "dressier" watches (eg, thinner, non-numerals, polished cases, limited water resistance, but fantastic horology)
>High-end Seiko
>Jaeger le-Coulture
>NOMOS
>Zenith El Primero (this single model)

If you are thinking "tool watch" that's high end but also meant for use
>IWC Big Pilot
>Omega Speedmaster Professional
>Rolex is still good in this area
>Different high-end Seiko

I mean it also depends on what you want. If you're a haute horlogerie kind of guy who wants in-house movements and history, you'll want to lean more to established Swiss brands.

If you want HARD USE tool watches made with Swiss ebauches (movement blanks), and with lots of really cool technology, you can't do much better than Sinn and Damasko.

The only company I can think of that tries to do both is Glashutte Original, who make very good watches, but I do believe their sports line is more or less discontinued and more expensive. But they're still great makers.

Swiss made means that part of the watch was made in Switzerland, it was probably assembled there, companies use this as a way to charge more money. Swiss movement means the movement that the watch uses was made in Switzerland, chances are it will be an eta movement. And Swiss quartz is a watch where the quartz components of the watch was made in Switzerland. If you are looking at low end watches I would stay away from Swiss and look at Japanese watches

No, I'm saying a quartz fashion watch is shit

You won it, cool, turn around, sell it for $50 and buy something else.

If you want quartz then just get a Timex Weekender, or a Casio digital if you want big numbers. Purists might bitch but you can get those.

If you want to watchfag, buy a Vostok Komandirskie or Seiko 5.

If you want to spend more then your options open up immensely. I just personally don't think a dude with a bit of knowledge, seeking a bit of watch know-how, should be wearing a POS like that

My specialization is on Energetics Law (oil, coil, electricity, etc...) and until last year I worked to an oil company in US. However, right now I practice mainly Civil, International and a bit of Criminal Law, as I wanted to try something new in my own firm. I'm doing quite well, thankfully. I wish you best of luck in becoming a lawyer and, who knows? Maybe some day will bump into each other at court.

My first good watch was an Oris, bought just a few days before turning 22, but frome there I think I have progressed into higher-end pieces. Nontheless, without forgetting the old loves. For example, ysterday I took an oldie from the banks safe that hasn't seen light in a long time; my happy face. :)

I need some help.
My girlfriend is looking for her first watch. She has her eye on a Skagen Freja in gold because it has a minimal feel to it. The problem is she's looking for an all gold watch, meaning gold dial as well.

Any ideas for an all "gold" minimalist women's watch? Pricerange 100 to 150 euros but she'll settle for lower price as well.

Thanks.

If you are set on modern and have few qualms about movements, look at Frederique Constant or Orient and pick one in a good size their rose gold plated pieces are very nice

I posted a Breitling Motors watch not too long ago in a watch thread here. Ended up returning it to the seller because I could see a small water spot inside the watch on the bezel, and the hours hand wouldn't reset to 0. Ended up finding a newer and much nicer condition Motors T with a leather strap + all the papers and box, unlike the other one.

How'd I do, /fa/? Would this be an acceptable color to pair with a charcoal suit?

>46mm chronograph too large for your wrists

The fact it's too big would be enough. Add the fact it's a busy sports watch, and I'd say no.

Well, no for the boardroom or important court cases. With your sports jacket for a night on the town, totally acceptable (if it wasn't too large).

Also
>Breitling
I understand why they get shit on for gaudy design, ETA movements, and marketing to the nouveau riche, however I feel some of their products are OK and, out of all their lineup, you've chosen a decent one. If it wasn't too damn big it would be ok.

Same time, I own one watch which is too big for me and still wear it sometimes, but to each his own.

Personally, if I wanted a $4k navitimer with an ETA I'd buy the Sinn, but that's just me.

Integrated lugs? Something like the Zelos Chroma has integrated lugs with it's lugless design, this one's just got a barrel style case

I really liked the vintage aesthetic of the piece and was able to get it brand new for a heck of a price. It's super comfy on the wrist and wears smaller than it's 42mm size, since it doesn't have crown guards and the bezel is smaller than the case size.

The thing with skeletons is that, since they are showing the innards of the movement (plates, wheels and scapement) in order to look good at close sight those must be reasonable finish (wich means perlage, anglage, côtes de Geneve, and black polish at least) and that becomes, sadly, very pricey and thus, not really affordable any more. Otherwise, they look a bjt ugly IRL.If you really want a cheap one disregarding this failure the go ahead and get it but you might be just as satisfied with an openheart watch (balance wheel and part of the escapement visible thru a hole in the dial) like the Orient or the Frederique Constant, depending on your budget.

What about open heart or partial skeleton? A fair bit pricier but still very attractive in my opinion would be one of the Hamilton Jazzmaster variants. They've got an open heart (bottom) and partial skeleton (top) versions that don't look completely gaudy. They don't have the fit and allure of a very high priced piece, but have that opened up charm to them, in my opinion.

>That much natos
Wow m8. You make them or what? lol
Besides the new Tudor any other few pieces, I rarely evwr tried a nato on my wrist. I'd love to have your collection for a bit at least to see what fits where among my watches.

Haven't seen the botom one before. I like it. Do you happen to know the pricetag on that?

Fair enough. Sounded like a question geared towards all the micros, hence my clarification.

I don't really have a direct favorite really, all of them are great in their own way. I really do like the Cerberus though, hence my having two of them. The dial sort of changes colour, it's ever so slightly layered to give it depth and the hands and indices don't clash at all. The bracelet is super comfy and the case design is brilliant, with the curved lugs and combination of brushed and polished surfaces.

I'm waiting on the second batch of Halios Delfins to go up for order, this is one piece I've been somewhat obsessed with for the past few months Just look at it. It looks so sweet.

I can't wait to get it in hand, but it's gonna cost me over $900 Canadian with the bloody USD climbing Mt. Everest right now.

>natos
Nah don't make them, just have acquired a lot of them. I like 'em, they're stupid comfy.

>>9383479
MSRP is about 900 USD. Amazon has the white with gold indices at just under $700, and one was sold used on WUS for under $500.

It's also a pretty nice picture.
I really like the watch and have been thinking of getting one, but it's kind of hard to get in europe unless you buy from eBay or the like.
On the english Amazon it's 600~ pound (equivalent to $900).

>> No.9383732

Yeah that price is horribly inflated.

I scored big time with it, got it from Dutyfreeisland for 129US. Best deal ever.

If you can acquire it for around 150 quid before VAT, spring for it. Every time I just browse to see the current price, it's usually over that.

If Orient updated their movement line to include handwinding at least, then I'd say absolutely. But it feels like a low-mid tier entry level automatic, I wouldn't want to spend more than 150 pounds myself.

LongIslandWatch have a couple different colour variants for around a hundred quid, no idea if they ship to GB though.

Nothing too fancy, but this is the first watch I've come across that I've genuinely wanted.

Getting it with my tax refund. Only ~$112, but I live dat poorfag life. Thoughts?

I actually live in Denmark, and there's the problem that I'll have to pay taxes for anything I buy outside of europe that exceeds like $12.

It's a good choice for a poorfag.
Otherwise you could go with a nice vintage watch.

not a bad choice this is actually on my shortlist as well. though you might want to try an automatic instead of a quartz eco drive for your "first real watch" but that's just preference

That's the thing, I am embarrassingly picky when it comes to these things. I meant it when I said "first watch I've genuinely wanted", I always seem to find some infinitesimally tiny thing to gripe about on every single watch I've come across.

And you prefer quartz to automatic movement?
I don't see why. I'd choose automatic movement every time.

So I was thinking about getting a new watch. I looked at hundreds if not thousands. And come up with this one.

I'm no fan of the Speedmaster/Mako designs. And also have a deep hatred towards metal bands. But would like to have a decent watch to wear as an everyday watch. (Hence the quartz.)

So is this a good choice?

My work is mostly desk-job engineering shit, but would like to have a watch that "doesn't crap itself" when it gets wet and could accompany me on the field.
(Also been thinking about the timex expeditions w chronograph, but heard they're not so reliable/durable.)
