Does anyone know how I can keep my hair being really soft? I usually shampoo and condition, then I blow dry it so it will be easier to comb for a couple of days.
A couple of times when I did that, my hair stayed soft for like a full week. I would go to sleep with nothing on my head and and it would look great in the morning. I didn't have to do anything to it.

Texturizer is a common recommendation as well, but I have the same worries.

I used to have dreadlocks before I joined the military. Being a black dude in the military sucks because anything more than a medium/high fade is considered faddish and not allowed.

My hair isn't impressive but I get a lot of compliments from other black people on it. I shampoo once every 6~8 days and moisturize every morning. I never comb. I just brush it.

Anyway, my hair when I wake up is exactly how I like it. It's soft, kinda curly, and not itchy or dry at all.

Right after showering though, it is very odd looking, stringy, dry, and itchy as fuck. Is my only solution to just shower at night instead of in the morning? Conditioners and shampoos help with the itching sometimes, but the dry stringy as fuck hair still remains.

Idk man... Try getting some Shea butter, coconut butter and olive oil and mix them together!! Then use.. Try a small batch and use it for a week or two and if it works for you add Jojoba oil to the mix.
Id also recommend using more natural products... Mainstream stuff you buy from supermarkets are not meant for our kind of hair; they've got way too many chemicals in them.

And deep condition!! Mix coconut oil, olive oil and some honey.. Put that on your head, cover your hair with a cap and leave it in for about 15 minutes.. Might help with the itching .
