This board in particular doesn't favor the preppy look, but it's just a different style. Preppy strongly opposes the minimalism popular on this board, so people don't like it. This doesn't make it worse than other styles such as Rick/Raf, lunarcore, "comfy", etc.

If you choose to dress preppy, I recommend browsing mfa/styleforum as you will find more relevant fits in those communities. Shop at brooks brothers/J.Crew/burberry. If you want preppy designer apparel, check out Thom Browne, Paul Smith, Etro

Its true, the top of the line preppy kids at my school (a new England prep school) have families that have been in new England for generations, and many have made names for themselves. Most of them sail and golf and play lacrosse for belong to boat and country clubs.
That is not to say you can't dress preppy if you're not one of them, but these guys take it to the next level.

honestly, if you want to be preppy you just need a few basic things

2-3 NICE fitted shirts one in light blue, white, and maybe a madra
1-2 nice sweaters that are flattering
1 pair of nice shoes, with matching belt
1 nice blazer
2 pairs of pants navy blue and khaki, make sure they are fitted correctly and a bit slimmer. also make sure they don't ruble up to much at the bottom(fitted right)
corduroy is a good one for this aswell.

and really alot of their shit is textured.
especially outwear, sweaters, and pants.

also, if your going to dress prep. make sure you have:
good hygine
non spiked hair(dont fucking frost them tips)
are atleast decently fit
act mature
and can take care of yourself

I think in the south its different. But here i knwo plenty of average income kids who are preppy. Their whole families are, they all sail and own a boat, even if its small, and they all have traditional preppy family vacations and stuff.Its interesting because a lot of the clothing they ware are hand me downs from their parents and shit like that. alright now, OP. Prep is really a good choice, but as others have suggested, it's really a life style.
all the pieces of clothing actually serve a purpose: Barbour hunting jacket for hunting trips, boat shoes for sailing, as well as the nantucket reds.
So actually looking the part comes as you actually "become prep". I sail, golf and go on hunting trips with family members whenever i'm at our family-owned vacation lodge. I'm not attending a private school, but university. You'll need money for all these things, OP. If you don't have the cash, it'll take you a while to become prep though.
