Recommended brands if u don't know shit: Nike/Adidas/Asics/Converse/New Balance/Common projects
(stay away from docs if you feminine looking lmao, u look stupid)

Have a basic sense for composition. That's all it really comes down to, that's all Yohji does. The most fashion conscious people I know wear everything, because they make the fit, and elaborate in a good direction.
