Gaudy? Its the most generic watch out there. It might look 'off' in that pic cause i used a cheap cell phone with poor lighting.

Its popular cause its prob. the cheapest 'nice' wind/automatic(amphibia is automatic and waterproof. Komonderski is wind and water resistant). Its also used in metro 2033... which prob. hurts it on /fa/.

Hey, you're entitled to what you want to say. I had just received it and wanted to try it out on a few nato straps to see if I could wear it with one.

And y'know what? Fifteen minutes later I went online and purchased a blue Hirsch leather strap for it.

This is a watch that I can't wear with nato straps and I've already accepted that fact as it just doesn't look right. The included strap isn't exactly a cup of tea either. But I figured I'd post the only image I took of it which happened to be on a nato strap to see who's jimmies got rustled.

Also, I agree with you on the movement part. I don't see the appeal to a display case back with nothing going on. I'd rather have a solid case back with it a little thinner.

OK Jesus anon you scared me there for a second so I sperged. Current choice is not only acceptable, but far, far better than 90% of watch nerds and it's outside the box. You understand it's not a true dress watch and are having fun making it quasi one.

Also the fact you understood it would rustle jimmies means your taste is in line with what I just wrote and as such not shit.

Yeah it should be thinner. I find there's a tendency these days to sell crap to watch nerds who buy stuf online and don't realize the thickness until it's in their hands. I'm wearing my Sinn 856 non UTC right now, it's on the thin side of tool watches and is still beefy.

Cheers brother. That's exactly it. I want to wear it as a nicer, dressier watch sure but want to be able to wear it with semi-casual attire. Nato straps for some watches would do just that. A leather nato strap _might_ obtain a similar result and I'll find out in a few weeks, but I'm pretty sure it'll live on the Hirsch strap.

I'm also not entirely innocent. I love nato straps and wear 'em on plenty of watches, but even I know there's a line to not cross. The Orient and the Cerberus are bracelet only right now, don't have any two piece straps for 'em but they don't look good on nato straps. The 007 can do natos but I much prefer the tool look of it on the bracelet.

>Sinn 856 non-UTC
I'm pretty jealous actually. I want to get myself a Sinn watch, but it's not immediately in the pipeline. I initially consdered the 556i, but I think it might be a bit too small for my wrist. The 856 hits my sweet spot for size, and the fact it is available with both the case and bracelet tegimented is an added bonus.

Deep down though, I really want a fully tegimented U1 SDR. But that's well off into the future.

The reason I wear watches is to TELL THE FUCKING TIME, not to be a big hot shot with my gaudy rolex. Mechanicals should have died and been buried in the 70's when they were made obsolete.

Yeah man you got some better options. I am massively quartzphobic and would never own something with a movement like that but to each their own. Aside from that OK collection and you understand basic ways to wear a watch /fa/ and I love dat cocktail time/blue strap combo idea. I might just use it, though I myself am more into vintage GDR/Soviet pieces and modern German tool.

Also Sinn is damn nice and a U1 SDR can be good but troll watchrecon they can come as low as $1200-1500, even fully tegimented. The 856 is sick and I'm happy I didn't get PVD as it wears off.

I'm getting a Damasko that's black though because their proprietary Demest coating is retard-levels of tough and resistant.

Heh, nice way to put it. I can appreciate quartz chronographs as they bring chronos down into the very affordable range and the subdial seconds ticking isn't noticeable at all, which is nice. As for the blue strap with the cocktail time, I came across one image of it and immediately had to do it. This image better shows a very similar model SARB with the exact strap I'm getting with white contrast stitching. It just looks so gorgeous. I'm excited to get it, but it won't be for another few weeks as anything entering Canada usually ends up sitting a week in customs because lolholidays.

>I'm getting a Damasko that's black though because their proprietary Demest coating is retard-levels of tough and resistant.
Yeah I've read that shit is nuts. Certainly something to consider, but something about their logo rubs me wrong. I wouldn't enjoy seeing it on the dial of a tool watch.

>Damasko logo
Dude I LOVE the Sinn cursive but I'm with you on the Damasko logo. I also don't like how they insist on having screwball colours on all their dials rather than just shutting the fuck up and doing all white. But their movements are good and engineering god-tier so the pros outweight the cons

>Canuckfag
Holy shit me too! Reason I'm buying a Damasko is because I'm in the Forces. Wear my Sinn in the field but the watch, even tegimented, can get beat so I want something *even tougher* (and more tactical lel) in the form of the Damasko

My biggest problem with these German brands though is the lume. The lume is lame. I've owned a Chinese-made Ticino (which is, btw, the biggest value-for-money brand not made in Russia) that cost $120 whose lume puts my Sinn's to SHAME.

It's not aesthetics at all. Side by side chronographs are best chronographs. The retards did the seconds hands wrong though. The big hand is supposed to be the stopwatch hand, and the small sundial the running seconds. That'd piss me off so much if I were to wear it.
Quartz is fine, but there is literally zero reason to spend that much on a quartz unless it's a high frequency thermocompensated movement. That movement cost them tops $80, and if you factor in how much you think it costs to machine a case you can tell you're clearly being had.

That description doesn't reflect this, though, making me think they just took the picture with the chronograph running.
That being said, I still can't support a purchase at that price. With any watch (particularly one with so simple a design as the shinola) there's always a different watch that'll scratch the same itch, unless you care about a particular brand.

Just so you know, there's no indication that it's a quartz watch other than perhaps the weight if it's light and it's overall size.

It's using the VK64 mecaquartz movement. There's no seconds register anywhere on board. The left register is for the chronograph minutes and the right one is a 24 hour indicator. Past that, the chronograph seconds hand moves at 1/5th second increments and has an instant snapback ala mechanical chronographs. So the whole ticking seconds thing is null right there. As for a battery, you'd have to replace it once every 3-5 years which is the same time frame between servicing a mechanical. If you pull out the crown when it's stored, you can extend that quite a bit so the bloody thing isn't running, which means battery life could even be greater than that.

So what are you guys going to do when your wrist fedora's become even more autistic when there will actually be something useful to wear on your wrist?

< $50 practical
> $5,000 high roller mode

I just looked it up. Their photo was just taken in the awkward condition of the chrono running and the seconds hand hacked. It does function as it's supposed to. Wouldn't pay that much but if you have the disposable income go right ahead if you don't find anything else you like.

Don't get any of those, there shit trust me. If you want a semi functional watch/ fitness band get this.
http://www.suunto.com/en-CA/Products/sports-watches/Suunto-Ambit3-Peak/Suunto-Ambit3-Peak-Black/?categoryId=3
I had the jawbone up 24 and believe me it was brutal. It had this little cap that would always fall off and inherently get lost. I ended up having to replace the cap 3 times. Charging it every week was also a downfall to this band. The up app was mediocre as well, it wasn't very functional. Also I swim often and having to take it off every time was very annoying. The suunto ambit3 peak has a 30 day charge and tracks everything you need to track. As well it doesn't have any extremities that fall off.
