Despite both of them being PURE pleb status, literally everyone uses them, One Million and Acqua Di Gio.

One Million for night or crowded spaces, bad thing is people can smell the guy next to you wearing the same shit, but all girls I know loved it.

Acqua di Gio is just a personal favorite for me, great for summer and general daily activities. It's not that common in the small city I live in so I'm lucky the hype didn't get to AdG aswell and I can feel unique.

>>9101152
Sure, it's in my collection. It's really good, although hardly the most versatile fragrance. Before this you had to go niche for such an in-your-face vetiver.

>>9101364
Inoffensive does not combine with strongly projecting. Sexy depends on the person who will be smelling you, some go wild for powerhouses, and others like a more clean scent.

>>9101371
It's a nice clean office-type fragrance. I love the tea Bvlgari uses ever since Jean-Claude Ellena did Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert for them. I'd say this is pretty inspired by that fragrance, but more conventional without falling into the boring aquatic tropes. Too bad about the lack of projection.

I like Dolce&Gabanna Light Blue. I went on a date with a girl who wore the female version of it and it was very nice. Smelled the men's version and it is pretty much the same. Like the name suggests, it is a light and airy scent, very soft and gives a good impression. I like citrusy gourmand scents, so I didn't cop it, but I would recommend it as a day fragrance.

Fragrance General

>Glossary
Notes: One or more (often synthetic) compounds that humans recognize as a particular smell (e.g., Lemon, Lavender).
Top notes: The notes present immediately after application. Usually fresh or sharp notes such as citrus and herbs.
Middle notes: The notes that emerge as the top notes fade. The heart of the fragrance. Usually rounded florals or spicy notes.
Base notes: The last notes to appear. Usually richer and darker notes such as woods and musks.
Accord: Common combination of notes that evoke a particular feel (e.g., Powdery, Aromatic).
Family/Group: The "genre" of a fragrance based on the note breakdown (e.g., Chypre, Fougère).
Longevity: How long the fragrance will last on your skin until it is completely unnoticeable.
Sillage: The size of the scent cloud or how far the fragrance projects its scent.
Perfumer: The "nose" or composer responsible for designing a fragrance.

>Concentrations
Eau de Cologne (EdC): About 2–6% aromatic compounds, historically a style of short-lived citrus fragrances originating in Cologne, Germany.
Eau de Toilette (EdT): 5-15% aromatic compounds. The most common concentration in designer fragrances.
Eau de Parfum (EdP), 10-20% aromatic compounds. The most common concentration in niche fragrances.
Pure Perfume/Perfume Extract: 15-40% aromatic compounds.

With higher concentrations expect a higher price, longevity and sillage, but certain note combinations outperform others so this is a rough guide.
Don't call fragrances colognes or after-shave unless that is what you're actually talking about.

>Designer/Niche
Most fragrances are made in big labs at the behalf of designers, or in-house at a few of them. Hundreds are released every year and most fail. They're generally between $30 and $120. Niche fragrances are made by the same perfumers, but with greater creative freedom, higher quality ingredients and much steeper prices. Don't expect to find many priced below $150.

>> No.9103083

>Flankers
In a perfect world these are interesting new takes on a fragrance. Examples of this includes Allure Homme Edition Blanche (ups the vanilla and adds a lemon note for a lemon-cream pie feel) and Allure Homme Sport (dials down the oriental notes while adding an aquatic one). Unfortunately, what usually happens is that a designer has a hit, and capitalizes on the brand by churning out cheaply made crap.

>Reformulations
IRFA and the EU regulate which compounds can be used in fragrances and in what quantities because of allergy and toxicity concerns. Some ingredients have been used to near extinction. These limits become stricter all the time and so recipes undergo changes to accommodate them, usually to their detriment. Vintage fragrances can be bought on eBay for die-hard fans.

>Resources
Fragrantica and Basenotes for info such as note breakdowns of specific fragrances.
FragranceX and FragranceNet are trusted online discounters, but mostly carry designers. Lucky Scent is a good retailer for niche fragrances, although many purchase directly from the niche brands themselves.
Sampling fragrances before you buy them is recommended as they perform differently from person to person. For designers go to a local store and try them on for free. For niche fragrances, buy samples at Lucky Scent, The Perfumed Court, First-in-Fragrance or Surrender to Chance.

>FAQ
>How many sprays and where?
This depends on the sillage of the fragrance. Generally, 1-2 sprays for EdPs and 2-5 for EdC/EdTs. Go for pulse points such as the neck and wrists.

>Why different fragrances for different seasons/times of day?
Temperature affects how we perceive certain notes. Warming or spicy notes smell overpowering when it is hot, but are cosy and inviting when it is cold. Aquatic or citrus notes are refreshing when it is hot, but can seem synthetic, boozy or sour when it is cold.

>What fragrance will make women sleep with me?
A fragrance will not be the deciding factor here.

>"old men" cologne.

No such thing. Lots of older perfumes have stood the test of time, but the two you mentioned are not the best examples in their genre, even at that price point, and so are considered somewhat dated.

For Obsession, try: Burberry London, Ambre Narguile, or Jaipur Homme

Aramis is okay, and still quite popular, but try: Bel Ami by Hermes, Comme des Garcons 2 Man or Givenchy Gentleman

Since you like 80s perfumes, try Fahrenheit. If you want to dip your toe into Niche perfumery Ambre Russe has a lot of notes you like and is one of my favorite oddball leather perfumes.

you are wrong. if you still think you are right, go to like luckyscent or somewhere and order a few samples of some highly rated niche scents. try them out. then you will realise the difference between a quality perfume done right and mass produced, synthetic, designer garbage.

don't get me wrong, there are many, many designer scents that are amazing. there are also many niche houses that cost the earth (Bond no. 9, Creed) that have some frags that smell way too synthetic.

Then you have houses like CdG who are technically designer, yet produce stuff of a quality and quirkyness that could place them with the best of the best in the niche market.

You know when we talked about how some companies will just churn out cheap cash-in flankers that are absolute shit? Well, the Le Male flankers is a prime example of this. How many are we up to at this point? It must be 20+.
This one is one of the better ones (I'd give it a 5/10 as a fragrance), but the fact that it has nothing to do with the original Le Male except for marketing makes me hate it with a passion for autist reason so 0/10.

It's a popular fragrance for a reason, but it's a clubbing fragrance and when they get that popular everyone just smells the same. It's become "plebe" because everyone is buying it, even plebes who don't know shit, but it enjoyed a nice long run in the fragrance community before it caught on with the mainstream.

If you care about fragrance, owning a bottle does not make you a plebe. If you just bought it because everyone else is, then yeah, you're a plebe. I've got it in my collection as I like it, but I never wear it out anymore.

I'd do the opposite of what >>9110644 recommends and start by trying out classics to get your bearings. There is a lot to learn though, so best to just get stuck in. Don't waste your time on new releases and flankers just yet, but do some research and find influential and well recieved classic fragrances that you think sound interesting. It's also okay to try out some stuff that people are giving shit, although I'd not recommend buying them unless you absolutely fall in love:

Christian Dior Eau Sauvage - When colognes first got dirty.

Guerlain Vetiver - The archetypical fresh and clean vetiver fragrance.

Fahrenheit - The archetypical 80s bad boy fragrance.

Hermes Terre d’Hermes - Jean-Claude Ellenas most popular fragrance, also when Super E went mainstream. One of the best modern "manly" fragrances in my opinion.

Boss Bottled & Acqua di Gio - The start of the end, or when mens fragrances jumped the shark. These fragrances cemented the trend for mens fragrances to be boring as shit. They were inoffensive and as mainstream as could be. Try them out, realize they are actually alright, if somewhat boring, and get angry that 90% of fragrances since then have been shitty copies.

Dior Homme & Dior Homme Intense - When mainstream mens fragrances got back off their asses and decided to fuck gender conventions and use an iris note to great effect.

If you're going to wear perfume (and don't think you have to), you might as well be f**kin' #based about it and stop half-assing. This method will equip you with a scent for any occasion, save you money, and expose you to the interesting world of fragrances!

If you are buying big bottles of cologne, you are DOING IT WRONG. Instead, buy smaller samples of different fragrances online, and here's why: When you buy a bottle of a scent, you often spend around $80-120 (if you're getting decent stuff), and you only get 1 scent. You will smell the same for every occasion, because you only have 1 scent. THAT IS WRONG. You can spend $40 on samples and end up with 8 different scents ($3-4 each + shipping) instead, and here's why that's better:

You should be basing your scent off of 4 things: The weather, the time of day, the occasion, and personal preference. If it's warm and sunny, you should smell different than if it's cold and sunny. Your spring fragrances are different from your summer, fall, and winter fragrances. Your daytime scents are different from your nighttime scents. Your date night perfume is different from the perfume you wear to work. Buying samples will allow you to have an appropriate scent for ANY and ALL occasions, for LESS money than 1 big bottle of perfume! Plus, here's the kicker: you get to try out new scents!

>> No.9111037

>>9111031

2/2

You can go to the store and test out fragrances for free and get a few samples, but the clerk won't keep giving them to you without you buying a bottle eventually. Also, people's preferences are known to change once they become more experienced with scents. The last thing you want to do is end up with a big bottle of perfume that you won't even put on anymore!

So do a little bit of research online and find some perfumes that you want to try, then order the samples from a sample website. Don't worry about not being able to smell the cologne before buying a sample online; if you get a fragrance you don't like, you only lose about $4 anyway, so no big deal. Do this until you find a few fragrances that you love, and then you can buy a bigger bottle, if you want. Or, you can just reorder your favorite samples, and try a few new ones in the next batch. Since the weather and occasion changes from day to day, you wont run out of the samples quickly, because you will be rotating them, in essence. The only big bottle you should buy is your work cologne (if you wear it to work), because you wear it 5 days a week, so you need more of it.

Basenotes and Fragrantica are the top websites for cologne and perfume reviews. There are many websites that sell samples, so just Google it. Feel free to message me with any questions, or if something didn't make sense. Happy smelling!

Honestly, if you're new to the game and don't have a lot of money this is a pretty good way of going about it.

However, in my case I've had the interest for a while and I've got samples coming out of the wazoo. I'll buy a big bottle when I find something I think is fucking amazing, the sample has dried up and I know I'm gonna have to get some more. This is usually a good investment as it will last longer and reformulations are always a concern.

>>9111072
I wrote the sticky and the infographics I've seen thus far have been pretty dated and often just wrong. I agree that some of this info could go in, especially more emphasis on sampling rather than blind-buying and also the stuff about different occasions/time of day (although I did try to get that across in the FAQ bit). The stuff about the websites is already in there though, and we'd have to have a third post to fit much more in.

£20/100ml
Mainly rose and vanilla with a musky backdrop
Also a very good cheapie, a few have commented that it smells very medical e.g. medicine or disinfectant

£24/50ml
Woods, as the name implies, this smells like wet wood in my opinion
More expensive than the other cheapies - a v. good casual frag
>Avant Garde by Lanvin

£20/100ml
Not very A-G at all as it smells like a mix between La Nuit, CK One and Spicebomb, listed notes are honey and tobacco with other warm notes
Very cozy and inviting, quite mature
>Man Eau Fraiche by Versace
Designer
£19/30ml

Pleb:
>Acqua di Gio by Armani
Designer
£28/30ml
The daddy of all aquatics - light, fruity, floral, it has it all
Used to be very popular, and still is, albeit a lot less, if you want to smell like everyone else you can wear this. This is brilliant though - very few frags can top this solely based on smell. Perry Ellis 360 Red is a cheap alternative to this which I think is actually better because of added cinnamon and it being stronger - £22/100ml. Panty dropper.
>1 Million by Paco Rabanne
Designer
£33/50ml
The strongest frag I know - VERY sweet and smells like bubblegum
A guilty pleasure of mine even though this is the signature fragrance of all middle eastern pedophiles, EXTREMELY STRONG, EXTREMELY SYNTHETIC. I'd only ever buy this for the bottle, Milton Lloyd's 'Pure Gold' is an exact replica and costs £3.50/50ml, go figure. Panty dropper.
>ayy lmao by Jean Paul Gaultier
Designer
£30/75ml
A sweet vanilla mint - very powdery, hit of lavender in it
There's no secret about who this frag is made for by bottle design and name. I personally like this smell but it reminds me of GCSE P.E. showers
>Cool Water by Davidoff
Designer
£17/40ml
Accordingly fresh water with grasses, but I get a bitter note from it
Currently the dadcore GOAT atm - the words 'Green Irish Tweed' describe this smell for me, a lot better than 'Cool Water', indeed very fresh though
>Fierce by A&F
Designer
£56/50ml
An apple scent which is very 'sporty' with added lavender
Fierce is... Fierce, if you're 15, wear this, if you're older, you can still wear this but you risk getting jumped. Underage panty dropper.

>> No.9111995

>Bleu de Chanel by Chanel
Designer
£48/50ml
I feel like I can describe this smell the best out of every frag I know - this smells like Frozen, it's very dreamy and quite polarising, it feels very 'cold' and 'blue', mainly because of how strong the mint in it, it has no menthol but you get the same null effect that menthol gives you albeit without the flavour, literally smells like Frozen I fucking swear to fuck
Great clubbing scent but it has recently being on the uprise. One of the top panty droppers of all time.

It's not quite that clear cut. Guerlain for example is strictly in the fragrance industry, but is not considered niche, nor has historically anything in the Chanel line been, although they are taking steps to change that by establishing their Les Exsclusif line which you can only buy in their boutiques. Niche fragrances are often bold and experimental. They're often of high quality, and they often use expensive ingredients in high concentrations, but none of those things are what defines them as niche. No, it's the fact that they're not competing in the same market as Guerlain, Old Spice, Rochas Man, Dior, CK and the like that make them niche. They don't advertise in the same way and outside of the fragrance community there is very little crossover in the customer base of designers and niche. There's a reason why shops generally don't carry both. Also, just as there are pure fragrance houses that are considered designer, there are designer houses with niche lines. Even shitty designers such as Armani (the line is called Prive).

If you like you can simplify it as "It's not niche unless it's expensive" as this is pretty much true.

thats pretty much how i do it. heres how i layer CdG Black and Lolita Lempicka au Masculin (i layer these because i find Black is very steak saucey, very peppery and smells like a barbecue to me. there is supposed to be licorice notes in there but i dont get them. so, i added a really really sweetshop licorice with LLaM and it works perfectly with Black).

I spray Black twice. once on the front of the neck, once on one wrist, then put my wrists together and then touch them behind my ears. then i spray LLaM once to the same spot on the neck, twice on each wrist, and touch behind my ears again.

and on another note, dont listen to anyone that tells you not to rub your wrists together when you apply a frag. its old wives tale tier hooey. if the frag is strong, you dont want to spray it on both wrists. rubbing it does nothing and does not change the scent. it doesnt alter the drydown or anything. to think just rubbing your wrists gently together could alter the microscopic scent molecules or squash them or anything is pants on head retarded.

>What makes a good winter fragrance

Winter fragrances require really good sillage and longevity as the cold will really dampen that effect and kill any weaker fragrances within minutes.

As far as notes go there are a few different directions one can go for winter. I'll list them and give you an example of designer fragrances featuring each.

Incense: Fahrenheit Absolute
Leather: Knize Ten
Spices: Spicebomb (Cinnamon), La Nuit de l`Homme (Cardamom)
Tobacco: Burberry London
Gourmand: L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme Eau Extreme (Cacao), Rochas Man (Coffee), A*Men (Caramel)
Vanilla: Dior Homme Intense (Fuck it, while it is predominantly powdery to begin with I'm not going to recommend fucking Le Male when I could do this one instead)
Vetiver: Encre Noire
Amber: For good amber fragrances you have to go Niche, but most of these fragrances feature some ambery notes.

If you get real fucking winter wherever you are you can usually disregard the daytime/nighttime thing.

Cypress: 8/10 smells like a better Creed Irish Tweed
D'Amber: 9/10 citrusy, woody, a little spice. Its really good
Tuscan Leather: 7/10 Way over rated imo. Its definitely a memorable scent but I wouldn't say its a great one. I think it fits its name though.
Plum Japenis: 9/10 Being Japanese this smells like every Buddhist funeral I've ever been to. But it also smells musky which I think adds a bit of a seductive spin. I found this one to last the longest of the TF scents.
