Uni student looking to get a couple fragrances. Price isn't a big deal but I'm not going to spend hundreds of dollars on one bottle; I'd rather buy a nice variety. So far I've tried

>Hanae Mori for Men
>Bleu de Chanel
>Dior Homme Intense
>Chanel Sycomore
>YSL La Nuit de L'Homme
>Issey Miyake L'Eau D'Issey
>D&G The One

I recently bought Sycomore and could probably buy all of the above, but I think it'd be stupid to get them all because you can only use so much at once. I guess I'd like a couple for cold weather and a couple for warm weather. Are any of these redundant?

>> No.9026573

>>9026550
Check the page that has a bunch of reviews of fragrances. I think it is Fragrantica, so just check it out and see what people say about the season of the stuff.

Also, how is Sycamore? Is it autumny and wintery/

>> No.9026609

>>9026573
They all have pretty positive reviews so I guess I can't go wrong with any of them. Issey Miyake sometimes rubbed me the wrong way but that's it. Sycomore is awesome which is why I bought it right after sampling it. I dont think I'd ever wear it in the heat so yeah it definitely is great for winter time

Hey /fa/, I am looking at using myperfumesample.com

I'm looking for a fresh, not overpowering, light, summery day scent to wear once or twice a week to the office.

So far I am planning on sampling;
>Body Korous by YSL
>Tom Ford by Tom Ford (unsure whether this fits my description above, but eager to try it out nontheless - perhaps I'll like it as an alternative one)
>Gucci by Gucci Sport (tried this before in a shop and it went alright)

Anybody got feedback on any of that?

>D&G The One
It's good for winter, for both day and night. good for cold evenings in autumn, too. some people say that it has horrible sillage and duration, but on me it lasts well and projects maybe even too much

>Dior Homme Intense
GOAT fragrance together with Sycomore. it is a super warm scent, so I'd recommend it only for when it is really cold outside.

The different notes that a fragrance is composed of. Woodsy, spicy, heavier fragrances tend to feel more appropriate during colder weather. Whereas citrusy, fresh, lighter fragrance are usually more suited for warmer weather.

People wear fragrances to smell good to others, not to themselves. Remember other people have noses too. And you're walking around with this devil-may-care attitude because? You want to smell like a tough guy?

Pure raw leather isn't easy to get a long with.

If you're young and want leather, try YSL Noble Leather. It's feminine, no tough guy edge, people will like it.

If you want to smell good, start with gourmands. This has been discussed endlessly

If you want to smell interesting and sexy, the entire TF line is interesting and sexy. Like I said, Oud Wood is a great fragrance. My favourites are Noir de Noir and Plum Japonais.

Stick with TF. But at least actually wear some other fragrances before pulling the trigger on Tuscan Leather.

My advice based on what you've posted is: Buy a decant of some Tuscan Leather from eBay or something. That way you don't have to shell out the full amount for the bottle, but you get more than just a sample. Or, just fucking save up and buy a full bottle.

It sounds like you like TL the most, so wear TL. Fuck what everybody else says.

I'm sick of the Tuscan Leather nay-sayers.

>> No.9041064

>>9040962

It's not a matter of "pulling it off"

It's about being more considerate of others.

Tuscan Leather is a beautiful fragrance, like all of the TF Private Blend line-up, but people who like it don't often realize how incredibly overpowering it is. It can be nauseating, in your face leather.

If you loved the smell of hot garbage, gasoline, cigarettes, and vomit, would you wear a fragrance made out of it on your first date with a girl/guy? Would you wear it to work? Would you wear it around your friends/family? No. Because it's offensive even though you like it so much.

90% of the fragrance game is about how you smell to others.

If I were you, I'd go to Sephora and start smelling what they have from the beginner tier on here. It definitely depends on your age group but my go to fragrances are Terre D'Hermes, Bleu De Chanel and Spicebomb. Find what you like at Sephora and they will pout samples into an atomizer. Remember that people spend forever trying to find a signature scent and that developing a nose for fragrance and specific notes doesn't happen overnight.

You seriously can't be comparing the scent of leather to vomit and garbage. I understand the point you're going for, but you just said it yourself: TL is a beautiful fragrance. Vomit and garbage is not. It sounds like the solution that you're missing is: spray less of this shit on, because it's overpowering.

Yes. This scent is absolutely massive; it smells like a dark, elegant and troubled dream from another era. If you're less than 50, you have to be on a very high level of individuality and sophistication to pull it off, and be ready to unplease a lot of people (those who appreciate will find it extremely distingushed though).

Is any of that Indie stuff actually worth it? Its definitely cheaper than dept store stuff . . . I do hear good things but much like makeup, I find that people who have only ever bought from the lower-end (like a woman who gets most all ker makeup from the drugstore) tend to have skewed standards. They've never bought higher quality stuff so their standard for 'good' is lower and they don't realize it. I'm sure there is good indie stuff but I'd be a little worried about smelling like cheap potpourri or something and not realizing it.

First noticed this when I tried an actual perfume (Jo Malone) and suddenly I was able to smell how cheap and synthetic my body sprays were. I was absolutely shocked and dismayed, I thought they smelled good but the difference in quality compared against the Jo Malone was unmistakable. I don't know if I would have believed it if you'd told me prior to experiencing it, I thought I was doing well by keeping away from the sugary gourmand scents, that I had a good idea of what was 'good'.

I don't know if it's nose fatigue or my skin just not projecting/absorbing it like it should. I'm thinking about blind buying again, but this time Burberry. I actually generally just get little decants, 5 mL or so, which I know is more expensive per mL, but I don't wear cologne everyday and when I do I go light. Also, I like so variety, so for me I don't think it would make sense to get like 10 different full bottles of stuff.
So really, depending on how much you plan on wearing, you could just get multiple little decants of a few things you like.

I'd be careful about the other suggestions by Anonymous, since essential oils could potentially flare up your allergies.

Maybe, instead, try out smelling and adjusting your nose to raw resins of things like frankincense, labdanum. Then woods like aloeswood, sandalwood, pine, hinoki. From there, move on to fragrant herbs, like hops, mugwort, valerian, sweet grass, dill, thyme, etc.,. After that, you should be ready for flowers, like rose, and magnolia--don't worry if these excite your histamines; they do with most people. Finally, try to get ahold of real ambergris, or civet. Slowly, but surely, if you can train yourself to handle these, you'll probably be able to handle niche brand fragrances @ EdP or EdE. Try to stay away from EdTs or EdCs.

It has a lot of Iso-E-Super in it (which gives it the strong cedar-like aroma), and unfortunately for some people, it reacts poorly with their natural bodily odor, which could give off that "rank" scent to others. Horrible choices for summer. Body Kouros is the smell of a gay turkish bathhouse, which can work in winter/fall, but not summer. The Tom Ford fragrance could work, but is hardly ideal. Gucci Sport is fucking kill. Only a select few fragrances with "sport" in the name is even worth thinking about. This is not one of them.

My recommendation for an office scent for summer would be Chanel Allure Edition Blanche.

It starts out pretty brazenly. My girlfriend describes it as a petrolium like note. That fades pretty quickly though and you sort of get used to it. Personally, I adore that bit.

Then there is the flint/mineral stuff probably caused by some interaction between the large amounts of Super E and the vetiver/pepper notes. To me that comes across as a dry stone baking in the sun, and I love the contrast between that and the orange note, like someone smashed a ripe orange into the ground on some barren plane somewhere.

Honestly, notes are notes. In India, the middle east and large parts of Europe rose is considered a masculine note. I've worn fragrances marketed for women and my girlfriend has worn fragrances marketed for men. It's just bullshit marketing. If you find a fragrance that works for you, then go for it.

The pour homme version of L'eau D'Issey is a straight up woody aquatic with lots of citrus. It's bland as shit. The original one marketed for women has less citrus but more of a fruity floral type of feel. Like a shittier, more floral version of Imperial Millesime. Even if you're talking about the femme version florals don't automatically mean feminine.

I've no idea what to do with your picture. Your physical appearance has nothing to do with what fragrances will work for you. You'll have to test a bit and find what works with your skin.

Personally, I love classic perfumes on women. They have a history of decadence and rebellion. Most of them do not smell dated to me, but some would disagree with that. Modern perfumes have gems as well, but there is a trend towards overly sweet and bland "pink" perfumes in an effort to appeal to younger women. They suck. Anyway, suggestions:

The Classic Guerlains are a must smell for anyone with an interest in the history of fragrances:

>Jicky, L'Heure Bleue, Mitsouko and Shalimar.

I think Bleue is classy as fuck, and Shalimar is still sexy as fuck.

If you're into Chanel, the house has some classics that still kicks ass, although you sort of have to steer clear of the most popular ones and go for the Les Exlusif line at this point. Check out:

>Coromandel, Sycomore, Bois des Iles, Cuir de Russie

As far as modern perfumes marketed towards women go there's a lot of very similar fragrances and it can be a hassle to sort through. I think the original

>Lolita Lempicka

is pretty darn nice, even if it inadvertently started the current craze of sweet candylike perfumes for women. The licorice note and burnt vanilla in the base balance it while all imitators that followed just take it too far. The perfumer behind it (Annick Mernardo) has made a bunch of other great fragrances for both men and women. Since I don't know much about your taste I can really only recommend that you check out her work, and also that of perfumers Maurice Rocel and Jean Claude Ellena as these three are the cornerstones of modern designer perfumery in my opinion.

Tell me more about what notes you like and what you're looking for and I'll reply again.

Ok.

La Nuit is a fine fragrance and a good flanker. It loses the ginger and ups the spice, but mellower.

If you're looking for something with a ginger bite that still works in fall/winter then The One for Men by D&G is alright, but it lacks staying power and the sillage is next to nothing which is kind of a no-go for me in winter.

Tea for Two by L`Artisan Parfumeur is borderline niche status, but has a wonderful black tea and gingerbread cookies feel to it. Reminds me of chai. Difficult to find sometimes, but the price is much lower than most niche fragrances.

If you don't care much about the ginger note then you're kind of spoiled for choice at the moment. Your local perfume shop should have most of these, try them all if you can:
