Why have you developed proper mouth posture yet, /fa/? Do you want vertical growth in your face rather than horizontal? Do you not want to be handsome?

Daily reminder that your face is ruined because of your environment

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TY3bIMRKil8 [Embed]

cliffs:
-Humans very recently have been eating a soft low volume diet, which means less use of jaw muscles and weaker jaw muscles
-Humans very recently have been weaned off breastfeeding early, so have developed improper swallowing patterns and tongue positions
-Humans very recently have had a rise in allergies, which has led to mouth-breathing and lowered tongue position
-Human bones are very malleable, force from facial muscles and the tongue alter the shape of the bones
-All of these factors combined have led to poor form and function of the face:
-- ugly, downward growth
-- a lack of horizontal growth
-- short, receding chins
-- narrow palates
-- crowded, poorly aligned teeth
-- recessed, elongated midfaces with poor cheekbones
-- less room for the tongue, leading to snoring, sleep apnoea, general breathing problems
-- etc.
The best way to try to fix these problems if you are already affected is to ensure that the teeth are together, the lips are together and the tongue is on the roof of the mouth, as well as chewing a lot of tough foods.

Modern teeth are shaped the way they are because we use forks and spoons.

Wow.. I'm a prime example of this.. I have narrow palates, no horizontal growth and mostly downward growth..

I had a lot of "teeth"/jaw problems when I was young. I have arthritis in my jaw.. which they only found out a year ago. I've used braces and my teeth are still not aligned properly and my jaw and muscles hurts everyday.

I'm also a mouthbreather, but I'm conciously trying to breathe properly.. when I was younger I could hardly open my mouth like 2cm.

Am I scewed or is this fixable with surgery and exercise? A part of my jawjoint is like "sawed" off halfway too, which I think contributes to the problem.

Also the same concepts apply to the other parts of your body. This is why I'm so grossed out by shitty posture. Do yoga, do deep squats, deadlifts, should press and dead-hang pullups. It'll straighten out your skeleton and give you conscious use of muscle groups that you weren't utilizing before. It makes your skeleton much more upright and your joints much more mobile. You'll also become more naturally coordinated and balanced.

I got TMJ. Stop chewing gum and massage your facial/jaw muscles. Alternatively, try acupuncture. Maybe try heatpacks when massaging, it makes it easier. Or do it in a hot bath/shower. It's easier to massage warm muscles. Remember to do this regularly. I try to do this every other day.

Do stretching exercises and other facial exercises to get your muscles stronger and more active.

Read up on gelatin supplements, it might help with the joint. I've never tried it, but it has supposedly helped a lot of people with joint problems, and other stuff.

Also make sure you get enough omega 3 and other essential vitamins, and generally try to maintain a healthy diet.

Do what you can to relieve yourself from all kinds of stress in your life, as stress can make it worse and tighten your muscles, give you more headaches, grind teeth and so forth.

Very interesting. I'm no mouth breather, I can keep my lips together just fine and my teeth are well aligned, but I can't quite keep both my jaws and my front teeth aligned : I have to either bite on the front teeth (and even then it's not well aligned) or the jaws...not sure which one to go with.

I think the jaws would be a lot safer, because the front teeth aren't actually well aligned when I bite on them, meaning any sort of shock could damage them I think.

As far as the tongue, maybe I should ask directly, but should I keep it right behind the front teeth (at the front of the palate, where you can feel those irregularities) or more in the middle or at the back ?

Anyways thanks for sharing, this is really interesting and the fact that he's not trying to sell you anything makes it all the more believable.

Anyway, mine sits this way naturally. If I have a stuffy nose, I have a hard time keeping my mouth closed though. My bottom teeth sit right behind the front, but I don't know if it differs depending on the individual.

Maybe your jaws are just that weak? You'll have to try and be more conscious of it then, I guess. You don't have to keep your teeth held together, just resting and barely touching.

How are the jaws supposed to look when resting? My front teeth touch but the teeth on the sides of my mouth don't touch. When I clench the teeth on the sides together my top row of my teeth is infront of the lower row and they don't touch at the tips.

does the slope thing apply to females? I thought female skulls naturally tended to be more sloped than mens skulls. I actually used to use this as another way to help tell if someone is male or female

Gonna ask my doctor about this soon.

ive been doing this for awhile. i noticed i had the typical "mouth breather" chin so i actively push my jaw forward (so my teeth meet). it's not excessive enough to be noticeable when im doing it, but i think it adds about .5 inch to my jawline or something.

No, and if you watch the video he literally states that his views are contrary to those of the entire field of modern orthodontics (nearly vaebatim).

His thesis makes no fucking sense. "It's mostly the foods we chew, not genetics, which have lead to these modern orthodontics problems", but this falls apart under inspection. For example Brits and Italians both have a similar number of tough foods in their diets, but Italians have much stronger jaws and chins. The American diet is similar to the British one, and the two people are genetically close, so why are certain slackjawed facial types more common in Britain? The main difference is that braces and early orthodontic care is more prevalent in the States, as well as Canada.

Also, take a look at China. Certain rural areas are infamous for having the worst fucking teeth in the world, yet the people all have strong jaws and high as fuck cheekbones. Korea is an even weirder case- they have a similar diet (regarding culinary toughness) to Japan, yet the common Korean facial type is an overly strong jaw (one of the reasons facial sculpting is so prevalent there) with an underbite and overly prominent chin and huge cheekbones (the very opposite of what Mew states the effects of improper swallowing/ tongue positioning effects should be). In Japan, on the other hand, you'll notice more weak chins and overbites.

tldr it's pseudoscience
/autism

>> No.9034911

>>9034427
His thesis is actually "mouth posture affects facial structure."

The diets of peoples affects the strength of the jaw muscles and leads to changes in mouth posture which leads to facial structure changes

Most of his best examples however were of individuals who had muscle weaknesses in their jaws which lead to facial changes. His Stephen Hawking and those two people with unilateral muscle weakness in particular
