Thinking of copping the Red Wing Beckman. Anyone own these know if it'll be good for the winter? Not expecting to be trudging through heavy snow.

these are the best boots i've ever owned. perfect with wool socks. you just have to size down at least a whole size.

>> No.8991092

>>8990755
Great boots for the colder seasons and though it takes a while for them to break in, they get real comfortable after that especially with nice socks...that's the point of breaking them in though. They're not meant for walking through snow, just keep that in mind in case you do want boots to be able to handle that.

Also, you really need to size down to get the ideal size. Like, seriously.

How would they go for general walking through snowy streets - more so through a bit of wet and minimal snow sludge

>> No.8991228

>>8991184
If the snow on the sidewalks and roads haven't been pushed aside already for the most part, it should handle a few snow sludge here and there. I'd say the issue is not so much on getting wet, but the fact that the cold can penetrate through the boots. And I guess traction too, but thats probably the case with all footwear in snow.

the traction is pretty decent. coupled with a pair of nice wool socks for warmth/extra comfort and you be good. but you do really need to break them in like crazy before you take them on extended walks.

I picked up pic related (katahdins) on sale for 160 last year. Didn't wear them much because it was at the end of the year. Just gave them an initial conditioning for the first time since I last wore them a year ago. Leather darkened to a nice color.

Gonna try wearing them a bit more this year. I didn't wear them a lot because I'm hungry skelly, my jeans were too shit to look good cuffed, and I didn't own enough to layer my top up a bit. Gonna be picking up some RgT SKS to replace my Levis here though, so that should help them look better and not clowny Tips are appreciated.

But these are good boots man. I'm glad I bought them. I really appreciate the hardware hardware on them, it is awesome.

If you're going to be walking in snow/rain and don't care to have your iron rangers resoled beckmans are the best option.
