The standard uniform here is a bad-fitting hoodie or fleece, straight legged pants and running shoes. Nothing spectacular.

I'm well aware of that. It's just called Ivy League because that's where this style started. Hollywood stars and non Ivy Leaguers started dressing that way too pretty quickly so it started losing its relation to ivy league a long time ago

In England you can dress like a massive posho but if you end up having a estuary english accent or god-forbid a northern accent then it doesn't work at all.

I prefer to take elements from prep and incorporate it into my wardrobe

Thankfully I'm an adult. Way too many kids on /fa/ try styles which don't suit them at all or they can't afford. I think college fashion is pretty limited by both your funds and age.

I'd say I dress in a modern 80s prep style (i.e. basically everything slimmer clothes). I have quite a lot of sweaters but none in such a loud color, I bought it for that reason and because it was heavily marked down.

Any pics of the jumper then? Sounds really nice, especially considering that it's from Gant. Gant have always done really nice jumpers, although it's a shame they haven't done a really nice plain Shetland for a few years now, I'm currently at pains to find a few in basic colours before winter really hits

80s prep is certainly the best era to take inspo from too; I have this fantastic pair of slim bleached selvedge jeans that tone down any more overt 'preppiness' of a fit (i.e. oxford under crew neck, beige RL college cardigan) in a really nice way

I have the same one in burgundy, i really like how they fit. If you're looking for a modern shetland I heard Howlin's 'Birth of the Cool' shaggy shetlands were pretty good: made in scotland and slim fit. I'm probably going to get one soon and i'll be set for the winter.
60s and 80s prep is the best in my opinion. But nowadays it's a bit dressy, so i try to tone it down too, especially when i'm wearing my penny loafers.
