I used to wear a bowler, big yellow bow tie and a tweed with some red suspenders. Wingtips, dress socks with fun prints, grey trousers, striped shirt. Intentionally ironic-goof. Some girls and my then-girlfriend thought it was cute. Then the internet happened.

It wasn't "cool", it was just "me". I found something I liked and stuck with it.
The problem with internet "fashion" communities is that they form these little ideas and stereotypes about certain articles of clothing/style and cement it indefinitely-- when really fashion is a dynamic concept that changes by area and the accompanying culture.
When I say "the internet happened", I mean that the ideas produced by internet communities started bleeding into global pop culture and consequently defined an entire generation's fashion sense.
And please, if anyone's wearing costumes it's /fa/'s populace. "muh virgincore", "muh dadcore", "gothninja", "astronazi", etc etc.

You don't honestly believe in internet fashion, do you?

you said it was an "ironic-goof." doesn't sound like "you," sounds like a teenage crutch rooted in insecurity.

and i don't understand how you think internet fashion boards made fedoracore uncool. it's a meme and commonly accepted view all across the internet/average population. and the average /fa/ggot who doesn't know what he's doing and buys a bunch of expensive shit trying to be a goofninja or don draper is equally bad, but just being into certain styles doesnt mean you wear a costume like wearing bowlers, bowties, and suspenders.

I was being kinda harsh before, we've all done cringeworthy stuff in the past, but your defense here makes it seem like you still don't even understand what's antisocial/juvenile about it. not only is it handicapped in a fashion sense, because it's totally out of chronological and cultural context, but it's socially handicapped because if you don't realize how it makes the average person look at you like you're an awkward band kid trying to find himself, then you're missing something.

In my defense, I was an awkward THESPIAN. I obviously grew out of it on my own, but at the time and within my social circle, it was more accepted. Being tacky ironically *was* me. It was what I thought looked good so I wore it.
This, at a time when pop-culture was bombarded with the "hipster" movement-- making out-of-context apparel more socially recognized as a fad and less "cringey" than it would be today.

And about fedora-core--- that is an internet bred term and label. It wasn't a thing before internet culture.

>>8837516
i feel you man. i went through an awkward grunge phase. like i said, we all had our cringey things. i just don't get how you don't see it in hindsight as socially awkward and inept.

i obviously know fedoracore as a term didn't exist before the internet, and it may not have been a meme before then, but it was definitely still seen as weird/out of place. in fact, it only exists as a meme because everyone already felt that way, so i caught on. fedoras and the fashion sense that go along with the people who wear them are out of place nowadays, for decades now, and those people are almost always awkward teenagers.

i'm not some 16 yo internet troll just trying to shit on someone, and i honestly don't care what awkward things anyone did back in high school, but i think it's bad to portray that kind of stuff as being okay. because when you don't grow out of crutches like that, it cripples you socially and makes friends, dating, jobs, and just general social blooming harder.

Maybe try a flat cap? It still has the potential to look douchey thouh depending on what you wear it with. Avoid one with bright colors or patterns.
