Just got this strap for a watch I've had for a while. It's pretty gaudy but I'm only planning to wear it at work events, I work at a shop specializing in BMW M3 race/track car conversions and these are the official M division colors.

It's actually a lot more tasteful in person than I expected it to be, though.

Fliegers are quite big, with the original ones from WW2 being over 50mm in diameter. You'll have to figure out the circumference of your wrist asap before you start shopping I reckon.

You can get some decent chinese mechanicals. Look up Parnis Pilot on ebay. Less than $100, with the flieger look. You can get them in 44mm or 47mm. Often display caseback and the movements look pretty cool. They'll usually be handwinding, sometimes they offer auto.

As for metal bracelet, don't do it on a flieger. Get a diver for that. Maybe look into Seiko SKX007 or 009, and the Orient Mako or Ray. Both very popular among those getting a taste for mechanicals. Both are 200m water risistant. Not that you'll dive that far, but it's a good indicator of the robustness of both. Pic related, Seiko SKX009 (my fav of the bunch). >Huldra
Beautiful. I really want a Corvid. Might go ahead and pre-order one if he goes and decides to do another production run of them. The lefty crown is appealing as, while I'm not a lefty I find some times the crown can dig into my hand.

>>I like that Poljot alarm on the left. How much was it, and how do you find the size?
Cost a hundred bucks shipped. What do you mean by size though, lug width or case size? Both were in the seller's description so I had a good idea how large it was gonna be and what straps needed.

>Not a fan of the MVMT because of the contrasting date wheel, and I don't like the Orient because of the colours. Would look much better in black and white IMO.
Fair enough. I don't really like the MVMT, period. It was pretty when I first got it before actually becoming a WIS, but now I just don't care for it. Too large, and I could never get the bracelet to feel nice for me. As for the Orient, I got it primarily because of the colours. I like both the colours and perceived depth in the dial, and the colour changing hour hand is a nice touch. There are other colour combos too.

>Otherwise nice collection. I like the Seiko SNK mod.
Thanks. The Seiko was bought really, to be my nato strap whore. I enjoy collecting natos as much as I do watches >>8821934

AFAIK there's been no problems with the Corvid, but my Huldra has been plagued. I don't know if you go on WUS but I've ranted there about my problems. Chip, the owner, is being quite slow in rectifying the bezel issue, and all of my emails have gone unanswered. Apart from that it's a really great looking watch.

For the Poljot I mean case size. I've got a pretty big wrist so I like to keep it at 40mm at a minimum. I'll allow 35 for vintage, as that Poljot is. Pic related, 35mm Voumard. I rotated the dial for driving.

Yeah I read the MVMT was 45mm. Absolutely massive for what it's supposed to be.

I forgot about the colour changing hour hand on the Orient. Cool feature, but still too colourful. The one you posted still doesn't do it for me.

I prefer Zulus over natos, but both are a staple in any WIS's collection. I've only got a few though because I need to find a cheap place to buy long (near 300mm) natos because I like to have a decent tuck going on at the end.

That's a shame. I would have thought Chip would be on that shit like white on rice. At least from what I've read, docvail of Lew and Huey is pretty much king in the customer service area, and with as bad a rep as Nadim and his brother had for the Rossling&Co watch campaign, any issues I had got sorted out right away when I messaged them. Shame that one micro can't keep up with the stellar service the others are providing.

Yeah, case size was on the ebay listing. This was the smallest watch I went after other than some HMT watches, and at 36mm it's tiny.

I like the styling of zulus more, but natos I find are a little more comfortable as they conform much easier, not to mention as they're thinner a lot more watches will accept them easily. I don't wanna have to toy with curved spring bars.

Oh, and natostrapco has some 12" natos. They're the only place I've been able to find nice long natos as I too like a lot of excess to fold, but I'm at the cusp where I have just enough to fold over so it doesn't look foolish.

Lew & Huey is growing on me.

Chip is working on it, but the unanswered emails really sour the experience.

Did you buy a Makara from Nadim? I was eyeing that off for ages, but the night I was about to buy a SS/Blue I ended up seeing that the orange Huldra had 5% off for every goal scored by Netherlands in the World Cup this year. I bought it after their game against Costa Rica in which they scored 5 penalties, so I got 25% off. Insta purchase.

It does look small, but wearable. I'll have to start searching for a nice example.. again.

I forgot about natostrapco, thanks for reminding me.

>>8824574

I like the 4 o'clock crown as it helps distinguish it from the more common Rolex Sub homages. Still, it's not to everyone's taste.

So you're about 6.75". I'd stick to watches 42mm and under, with 38-40 being the sweet spot. The Mako should fit well and will take some serious beatings.

Well I'd say it depends where you live. If you're murrcan jump on Amazon and see how much they're going for. Do the same for eBay.

Otherwise just check out eBay. There are online retailers that are very reputable but sometimes you'll get hit with shipping.

I'd be happy to spend $150 on a Mako. If I really liked it, I'd go up to maybe $220. That's just me though.

Check this one out on ebay: 181527056764

I'm hoping that's the blue dial you're referring to. Might get it for really cheap.

I'm still kicking myself in the head for not grabbing a Riccardo on Kickstarter when he first brought it out. I didn't really dig the design and at $500 it was steep for a non-WIS. Almost three years later and I missed a pretty good boat to get on. Every time I see one I curse my previous self.

I didn't buy a Makara, but I backed his Helgray project on Kickstarter for a Skyfighter, pic above. I'm looking forward to his next project which he aught to be launching fairly soon, once he's shipped out all the watches from his first line. Pic below. I'm really liking what he's doing with this one as my favorite size is definitely 40mm and with my massive collection of natos, I'm gonna prefer 20mm lugs over 22mm.

That sounds like a killer deal for a Huldra. I'm a little jelly.

There's also another project watch that I'm following at the moment, it looks like it might end up really well if all goes as planned for him. It's a sorta, retro-dressy dive watch style. 2 and 4 crowns for an internal bezel and time, respectively. If I recall correctly he was hoping to use a Miyota 9015. Take a look at some of the renders further into the thread, definitely something I've got high hopes for.

I am definitely going to back River Watch Company. He seems like a great guy and I can't wait to see the prototypes. I've been following this since day 1 and I'm still as into it as ever.

Yeah the Riccardo was definitely a brilliant flagship for L&H. Incredible value. However I was turned off by the logo and opted out. Since then it's grown on me and I too get jelly when I see it pop up in the WRUW threads.

I was a fan of the California dial version from Helgray, and I do like the new model that's about to be released. I decided against it though as it's quartz. Rather petty, but that's me. I would have backed it in a heartbeat had it used a Seagull ST-19. Same used in my 1963, pic related.

Yeah, I can understand not going for a simple three hander if it's only a quartz watch, but the quartz chronographs on the other hand get great value for the money. His new model uses the VK63 meca-quartz movement, which is the same one in both the Autodromo Prototipo and my Techne Sparrowhawk II. With the 1/5th second ticks for the chronograph, it removes something that most of us don't care for in quartz watches. Heck, my most expensive watch currently was my Sparrowhawk II and it has hands down been my favorite thus far, although it might be slightly biased as it was over 2 years before I managed to get one.

I'd love to get a Sparrowhawk with the ST19 movement too at that, but they're a rarity in their own. That movement is just beautiful.

I was completely unaware of specs of the VK63. This changes everything. I'll have to look into it some more, but now I'm feeling quite optimistic about it. I just watched the Worn and Wound review of the Sparrohawk, to get a feel for the movement. I'd be very happy to have that on my wrist.

I've got this Timex though, so my PVD quartz chrono slot in my box is accounted for.

That's enough watch talk for tonight. Might see you in the next thread.

To the guy eyeing off the Mako - best of luck with whatever you decide to buy.

Thanks! I love it. I admired it from afar for a couple years, and then a couple months ago I managed to snag it. Couldn't be more pleased with the fit and finish, the screw down crown is a nice little touch, the pushers feel solid, and it's just well built overall. However, I do belive german houses have a bit different philosophy about finishing principles: A. Lange & Sohne puts the exact same finishing quality in their base models (Saxonia, for example) than in their highest complications (Datograph or Langematik Perpetual) while Patek doesn't (Simple Calatrava vs Perpetual Calendar, for example) wich makes ALS a better value.
