I hate this sitgma surrounding ECU. I know there will always be pretentia with universities but for WA? UWA is the only true university sure they can have all the prestige. But I can't stand people who knock ECU at the mere mention of it's name. Especially when Curtin is seen as respectable when both were polytechnics and they only thing separating the two is Curtin has a higher ATAR requirement despite having the same prerequisites as ECU, and that ECU is considerably better in there health related courses.

Rant aside, another means of entering uni is through a TAFE. A cert. Iv only takes 6 months and can be used as an entry ticket into ECU and Curtin. The advantage of this is that you can still apply for welfare if you need it but that it also gets you back into the habit of a studying frame of mind.
