For a start the coats people are normally posting are at least from mid-tier brands so they're not exactly just chucked together in a chinese closet. As well as that, any increase in quality from the coats from whatever the hell you're posting have is not going to be all THAT much better than this mid range stuff. Diminishing returns and all that.

Also I've had a coat from freaking Next for like 2 years now and it's holding up absolutely fine. Sure the material isn't as nice as others but for only £60 it's doing very well.

I tried all the current season coats from each of these places and the nicest ones were from Folk, Tiger and Burberry. You have no idea what you're talking about. The difference between mass produced mid-range garbage like Acne or UO and a handmade five-figure coat by a house like Kiton or Zilli is comparable to the difference between an entry level Mercedes and a fucking Koenigsegg.

People like you who see something that's astronomically beyond their price range always assume it must be pure bluster, that there aren't actual reasons this stuff runs so much, but there are. In the first place, garments like these are not made by sweatshop workers in some impoverished province of a country most people couldn't find on a map. These houses have master craftsmen who have been with the company for years. Their materials are sourced from the best places, and that goes double for skins and furs. Yes they are making a lot of money on their clothes, but their overall operating margins probably aren't much different from mall-tier garbage stores like Hollister and H&M.

If you were a fabulously wealthy person and one day lost every penny, this is the sort of thing they'd auction off at your estate sale to cover whatever outstanding debts you owe.

Think about that for a minute. Is there anything in your closet of sufficient quality to warrant being auctioned off? Sure it would go for rock-bottom price, but is there anything that would hold enough value to even be considered worth bringing to auction?

Coats like that just get to the point where it's less about how the coat actually looks and more about the owner broadcasting the fact that they have the disposable income to drop on such a ludicrously priced garment. Well would you like me to sit here and answer all these questions or would you like me to try and get a halfway decent picture of myself to post? Because I really can't do both.

And your pricing scale is a little out of focus. Their outerwear pieces are the best in the world and priced to match, but the rest of their line (except maybe the frankly silly diamond weave bespoke suits they make) is not overly outrageous compared to the stuff that usually gets posted here. It really depends on the materials. A cashmere sweater by them would be in the 900-1500 dollar range. Jeans range from 800-2200 depending on whether you want little things like croc pocket patches. Simple cotton t-shirts get as low as 350-500. Leather sneakers from 1000 and up.

So yes it is expensive, but it's not ludicrous. Outwear is in a different category because that's what the brand was built on.

Their bags are also exorbitant. All alligator duffel with cashmere lining is like 50K

What you're seeing, first of all, is not technically leather. These are exotic skins that naturally have scales, quills, etc. You can't get rid of them.

All their calf leather and stuff like that is smooth. They don't artificially alter the leather except to dye it.

Tacky and poorly cut. The only person who would wear something like this would be some dirt-poor pleb who suddenly came into some money, so they decide to go out and buy the first 'expensive' clothing that they see.

Also, "exotic" skins does not mean its suddenly better or of higher quality. You can talk all day about how great the various skins ans leathers are, but at the end of the day, its a horrible piece of clothing and shouldn't be worn by anyone.

TLDR: awful

I'm new to this convo. I see both of your points, and they're pretty pointless. If exotic leather appeals to you, that makes sense, but it's a niche kinda thing that a lot of people won't care about, even on a fashion board. This guy's clearly not into it, so arguing with him isn't gonna get anywhere.

The problem is that you seem to see, or at least argue, that the selling point in these jackets is their exclusivity, which is often a selling point in American and worldwide markets, but on a fashion board it's commonplace.

Just my two cents
