i doubt it tbh, flannel fits basically every aesthetic, people who don't care about clothes, 90s revival/normcore/soft grunge/tumblrcore kids, edgy people who mainly wear black but want some pattern to mix it up, menswear, workwear, punk, etc.

flannel will stay in because it fits everything.
also its warm, cosy, comfy, and usually looks good. :)

maybe my perspective is whack

i grew up in the aftermath of grunge, where nobody was wearing flannel. around where i live, only grampas wore it until 07. i actually was among the first to hop back on the flannel hypetrain, started wearing it in 08. then it really blew up in like 2010-2011.... if someone were to ask me, i'd say there is inevitable backlash on the horizon, but maybe it'll stick around this time because of it's versatility.

I would say that the backlash probably had more to do with the backlash against grunge itself than with people disliking the fabric.
