How would you dress if you taught high school in a city that wasn't high or low class?

High school English. I wake up feeling okay with going to work everyday. I traveled, albeit on a slim budget, all summer. I'm 25 and would recommend.

I bought all the basics last year. I think I will be focusing on sweaters and other layers this year.

Nice, I'm 23 and I'd either be teaching English or art ... probably high school level.
what did you have to do to get started? I was considering waiting until I got my life together (found a girl, had a kid, etc) but If it's possible to just go into it, I'd be willing to try

Something like this is pretty viable.
When I did open houses a lot last year, I wore a field jacket to cover my shirt not fitting my shoulders and it worked out really well.

You're going to have to jump through a lot of hoops during college, but it is worth it in the end. Establish relationships with your ed professors. You're going to need letters of recommendation and they will help you land a job.

I dress well (professionally) Monday through Thursday. I let a little bit of my real personality show on Fridays because it helps connect with students.

Also OP, grab a top coat for winter. I don't have any inspo and recs (I keep posting the same fucking grey topcoat trying to find a similar one but no luck), but they really go well for all sorts of events. In my opinion, it has become what the peacoat used to be. Great for casual wear all the way up to business professional (in my opinion anyways)

I waited until I had the girl and kid to become a teacher (I convinved her to finish her masters and she conviced me to finish my teaching...)

No need to wait, just get in there.

Also, at least in the states, it's tough getting a position as an art teacher. They are cutting back on those subjects and to make things worse, art teachers never fucking retire.

Btw, if you're a male you will be in many classes with tons of young college girls and virtually no other males. MAKE USE OF THIS.

I received my BA in English, then went through a master's program to get certified by the state to teach. In my state, you have to pass a state test in gen ed, your major, and your minor.
Colleges also offer an education program where you can get certified and teach with a education degree. I took a little bit of a different route. I went to school essentially for a year longer, but receive a pay increase because I have a masters degree.

I wouldn't worry too much about a girl or kids. If you want to have kids, just time it so they are born in the summer. Once they start school, you will be on the same schedule as them and can pick them up after work.

I think I'm all out of decent inspo. /fa/ doesn't have these threads often which is a bummer because I don't trust a lot of other places for honest advice.
Trying to poke my nose around leddit for inspo but man, even their favorite inspiration albums look like shit.

Do you guys know what the process is for becoming a teacher when you retire from a different career? I have a year left til I get my engineering degree, and I plan on doing that til I get bored of it and move on to teaching high school calculus/physics/etc. I had a lot of teachers in high school that were previously engineers so I know it's a thing, but I remember them saying it's a hassle.

Look into MAT programs (master's in the art of teaching). Not hard. Two semesters of classes, one semester student teaching. Requires a previous degree in any main subject area.
