Beginner thread.
Alright /fa/ i just wandered over here from /fit/ and I have no idea what is going on. Read the sticky but it was pretty limited. Hoping to get some infographics explaining the basics. Looking to see examples of things (brotier, dadcore, types of shoes etc).

Im looking to step up my fashion game but have no idea where to start really. Most days i can be found wearing a t shirt and jeans. Going into my second year of med school in a week so i figured its a good time to get my shit together.

Any help is appreciated

i have a closet full of like graphic t shirts, the kind of shit you find at like a skate store. For school i had to invest in some dress pants/dress shirts also but i feel like i got some frumpy looking things and didnt do it quite right. I dont know what to look for in dress pants/shirts and good color/pattern combinations

Budget i guess is whatever, i dont really want to spend $100 on a dress shirt if i can have a handful that look good at $40 each. Id feel comfortable spending $100 on pants but budget can move a bit too.

Proper fit and flattering cut. Do the shoulders on the shirt line up with your shoulders? Do you fill out your shirt? Do you need to use a belt to stop your pants from falling down? Do your pants drag on the floor?

It would be worthwhile to swap your graphic tees for solid colours, and your prefaded denim for raws and chinos

okay the shoulders is something i'll keep an eye out for next time i shop. Are there pics of proper fitting tshirts for somebody with my body type versus a shitty fitting shirt?

I have a handful of solid color shirts from H&M, are they an acceptable addition to a wardrobe?

Start with something basic as fuck, lurk a ton, find fits posted here you actually like, learn why those fits work and what makes them work, start building a wardrobe based on fits/styles you like.
For start get basic ass shit, few black tees, few white ones, slim indigo jeans, slim black jeans, grey/black sweatshirts/hoodies. Go throw every print tee you have in to the trash, they are more than likely terrible.

my suggestions:
start with shoes and hair. those are most important.

running shoes are "in" right now but i'd start with something a bit more timeless. converses and vans look silly. if you don't want to splurge too much you can get some new balances or army trainers (jcpenny has some really nice ones on sale). if you're comfortable with spending a coin and want something that will last a whiiiiile get some red wings and take care of them or some common projects. black and white are usually safe options with shoes. until you really know what you're doing i'd avoid bright colors or even shit like navy or grey. don't skimp on shoes.

next i'd move to pants. if you squat hxc you might have to get taper fit pants instead of "skinny" pants. if you're on a budget go for levi "waterless" type of pants. you really only need 1 pair. memochrome is probably the easiest way to look good so i'd go with black but if you want something a little more sustainable get light indigo (i would say dark indigo but it seems like light indigo is coming back.) also brown and white shoes go best with indigo jeans, black shoes go best with black jeans and look eh with indigo jeans). if you get shorts make sure they have a short inseam. shorts like chubbies etc. no cargo pants unless they're short inseam and cut really close. i wouldn't skimp on pants but if you absolutely HAVE to hm has alright pants at poverty level prices.

next for shirts, uniqlo has really well cut tees for a budget. don't wear them too tight or you'll look like a tryhard. if you want to splurge a bit go to american apparel. v-necks are long gone get some crew necks. heather grey, navy, etc are all good colors for tees. black is kinda cheesy to me.

if you have any more questions shoot me an e-mail at deadlyboyscoutcookie@gmail.com

pic related is me so you can decide if advice worth taking or not

Raw jeans are untreated and unwashed jeans. They're dipped in dye (usually indigo) and sent to the consumer. The idea of these jeans is the dye gathers in the natural stress points of your body (knees, hips, benis) and when you eventually wash them (6 months to 1 year of wear) the excess dye in these areas falls off and gives you a personalized fade. Prefaded jeans are manufacturers attempts to duplicate this look, and often look unnatural. Chinos are what people call khakis, but Chino is more correct because they come in many colours, not just khaki.

OK i'm gonna be friendly, despite /fa/ shitting on your fit, because I'm drunk and it's 11 p.m. here.

Read the sticky.

Don't wear those jeans or any graphic tees. If you want to be avbove basic pleb without visiting /fa/ on regular - plain tapered (I don't mean skin tight, jeans that you want are shorter than your pic and have 2-4 cm free space from the skin on the WHOLE lenght, from calves to ankles). washed (don't buy into raws shit) mid-rise navy jeans jeans, and basic t-shirts in non-abrasive, muted colors, those from H&M are enough but go for Uniqlo if u can.

With that, basic bitch's plain Nikes or #menswear boots like Wolverine or Iron Ranger and you are settled.

buy a lot of really basic solid color tees
buy 2-3 pairs of chinos, should be slim fitting, get a darker khaki color, maybe an olive color, and maybe a navy pair. really neutral tones are important when you don't reallyknow what goes together

Completely unrelated, but this seems like a questions that don't deserve their own thread thread; I'm going to go over seas for a while (year at least) to France from Canada.

Should I buy clothes over here where everything is fitted for a 6' man or should I wait and buy them in a country where the average height is a few inches shorter as a short man?

Levis 508s are roomier in the leg and ass but still have the slim taper below the knee that looks good.
