if the waist is good but the thighs are too tight, then try a different cut/style/brand (measure the thighs on them and try to find something in a larger thigh).

Jesus fucking Christ, that's like 10" over my natural inseam, luckily everything else looks like it should fit pretty well. Is there any recommended place to send them in to tailor or should I just double cuff them? Or should I just get raw and do a soak to make them shrink? >>8669099
you can tell the tailor to taper the jeans from the outseam instead of the inseam and the selvedge will be preserved.

>>8669205
all three of those jeans are decent for their price. the twisted candy weft ones will be pretty unique once they fade. also the sellers of those used pairs are dirty liars. it's impossible for a pair of denim to stretch more than a size and a half unless it's APCs which use shitty cotton that stretches an abnormal amount.

I bought a pair of these Levi's 510 Commuters 1 month ago to the day and haven't washed them. They fit great and seem really durable. They're also coated in some sort of antibacterial shit so they don't smell at all. Although the tags indicated to wash them as few times as possible, which makes me confused whether or not they're considered raw denim.

My only concern is that they're starting to loosen up in the waist and seat already. I'm worried that when I wash them the great colouring will fade and the antibacterial coating will be gone. Are there any raw secret tips to tightening up a pair of jeans that have never been washed? Should I have done a "first soak" in these?

>> No.8670657

>>8670645
Jeans fade the most when you wear them for a long time before washing. Soaking in warm or hot water will help them to shrink back to their original size, and shouldn't affect the color much at all.

this actually isn't true. denim will shrink in length and width when it's washed or soaked. the amount of shrinkage depends on whether or not the denim is sanforized and the temperature of the water and amount of agitation during the soak or wash.

In general, I believe Levi's stretch a size, so you might consider sizing down a waist size on unbranded depending on how you feel.
Of course, with most brands you usually can't go wrong with going tts. Just grab the size that fits your waist and wear a belt. One size usually doesn't make a difference anywhere else save waist.

Sugar Cane has some really cool half cotton half sugar cane denim, but they only make repro cuts. The Flat Head has denim that makes amazing vertical streaking/falling fades. people like the shadow selvedge because of the cuts that it comes in and the construction quality and minimalist detailing of 3sixteen jeans. And among raw denim brands, indigo/black isn't exactly uncommon, it's just a good example of it done very well.

slub is inconsistencies in the denim. some of the yarns are thicker or thinner than the rest. Nep is when small knots of the warp yarns poke out on the surface of the denim.

people like slub because no two pair of jeans will have the same exact slub patterns, and it's just another small characteristic that sets raw denim apart from projectile loomed standard denim. here's a good picture to illustrate the difference between the two.

>> No.8676490

nope! you can even pull the nep out with your fingers if it bothers you.

this diagram will help explain the difference for warp and weft. Warp is the fibers that are traditionally on the outside of the denim, and the weft is the underside. Weft is usually bleached or left natural white, but when it's dyed different colors like black, red, or deep indigo the result is jeans like Naked & famous' red weft, the PBJ XX-012 and the 3sixteen shadow selvedge.

So I'm kind of new here and just to /fa/ in general, I've been looking through a lot of the resources and shit but I honestly don't get it. Can someone tell me why I should get raws? I only really wear jeans once or twice a week and thats usually because they're easy to move in and tougher than chinos. I wear them when I'm doing out doorsy shit or helping a friend move furniture or shit like that.

Why raws? How come theres hardly any recommendations for denim other than raws?

you can get surgery to get rid of the excess skin. I advise you to lose weight, but not because you might not fit into jeans, but because it's really bad for your health and shortens your lifespan. being fat isn't just un-/fa/, it's also really dangerous. if you've done it before, you can do it again.

if you insist on not trying to lose weight, look at this I guess. if you can figure out your thigh measurement, put that in and press search.

the lighter the denim, the less rigid the denim is. less rigid denim fades slower. if you're doing lots of activity on the ranch in your denim they will wear out faster. I suggest getting a second pair and rotating between the two to prolong the life of both pairs.

hand wash them or soak them about once a month or so. that will make sure that indigo dye is regularly removed from the denim, creating low contrast fades instead of high contrast ones. that doesn't affect the durability of them, and in fact will make them stronger because the minimal shrinkage from soaks and washes strengthens the cotton fibers and removes abrasive dirt particles.

These 21oz jeans stack like shit because they're just too stiff to "stack" as such, they just crease is weird and awful ways! I would do turn ups so I don't get stacking, but to be really honest, 1. Turn ups on heavyweight selvedge is like having a bagel on your ankle, 2. They just don't look right with a lot of footwear and 3. I got a lil bit of leg twist and it drives me insane because the selvedge isn't even. haha.

THANKYOU! <3 <3 <3

I don't know lots about denim, but I'll have a go. From what I know... They will shrink about 2-3inches. (also means you can only have a single cuff if you want them like your pic) They leg (width) and waist will shrink a bit, but they also have pressure applied to them from your body, so will stretch back out. If you got a size bigger and they shrunk to your true size, you will realize that after a while, they will start to become loose.

But I know fuck all so don't trust me.

>> No.8690153

>>8689978
they'll probably end up shrinking too much and become uncomfortable. exchange them for a size larger, and then when you get the new pair, soak them in the hottest water you can find to shrink them down to similar measurements to the pair you have now.

>>8690075
if you want them to stack properly, you might want to iron them out flat and then put them on. that should allow the natural stacks to form as you wear them.

if you only soak them, not wash them, in cold water, so they don't shrink all the way, they may still be comfortable. that's the beauty of unsanforized denim, you can loosely control how much they shrink by managing the temperature of the wash/soak and the duration and level of agitation.

>> No.8690207

>>8690176
I could see that working, but then if I get them seriously dirty and have to do a warm/hot wash with a lot of agitation they'll shrink a ton.
The most annoying part about this is that I have to go up 2 sizes. Hopefully they don't come out too loose.

>> No.8690219

From Luther's:
"Thanks for the order. Yea, those look really good. Your going to lose an inch in the waist which will stretch out pretty quick back to original size. In length you'll loose 2 inches and that's gone for good.

If you don't plan on washing frequently a little tight is good. As you beat on them they'll stretch and be comfortable. I personally go 6 months without wash/soaking and depending on how loose they feel I decide whether to hot or cold soak.

So if they'll be ok 2 inches shorter I think your good."

Why can't anything ever be easy?

What do you think about G-star raws?
I know they aren't talked about that much.
I'm wearing a pair of 3001's that i have sown in because the widened a little much and i prefer tights jeans (n-no homo)

Only reason why i got them was because it was a sale and i got them for 60 bucks down from 110 and needed new pants.

So far i have worn them 3 weeks and got blue hands now and then, but i think they have bled out enough.

Can see some minor fades, honeycombing and such, but no real marks. Goes great with white shirts

If you don't have a pair of either then why comment? 90% of what you say is solid advice but some stuff is just off. It's ok if you don't know man. Diors are for sure better then APC and I can say that having owned both. The 15.5 cut is also a touch tighter through the thighs then the PNS. I get that Hedi coppied APC's cuts for the 19cm but since KVA took over Dior the cut has also changed a bit as well.

Since I'm here, I will have a go at answering. Cone Mills are known for making good quality denim and other fabrics. They also treat their employees super well and pay them well too. Japanese mills (Doesn't matter where, they're basically all the same) also make good quality denims and other fabrics, but I think they don't pay as well as they do in the USA. You can get a pair of jeans with cone mills denim and it could be stitched together shit, but then again, you could also get the shitest chinese denim and it could be put together super well. It's a game of compromising. If you wan't both really good denim and really good construction, you'll be paying handsomely.

In terms of the weight of the denim (what a square yard of the denim weighs) yes, that does matter. The lighter the denim, the thinner it is and therefore can affect things like how it wears, how it stretches and how tough it is. Just go with a 14/15oz denim if you're not too sure what you will like.

HOPE I HELPED, YA BIG FAGGOT.

Is this a better fit in general? They need to be hemmed surely but I still think they'd look too bulky on my 5'5 frame. Levi 520s

Main reason I avoid jeans apart from skinny's (i.e 6 inch leg opening) is that if I do get them hemmed by about 2-3 inches the taper goes to shit and they look heaps weird.
