get something beautiful that's also meaningful, and if you're afraid it won't be then it's not meaningful enough. something that reminds you of some part of your life or something you like reminiscing about. or, if you're an artsy person, do a design yourself because you can personally make it significant and beautiful in exactly the way you want. my martial arts trainer for instance has a dragon-ish kind of tattoo over his shoulders and down his arms, which might seem played out but it's filled with symbols of chinese philosophy that's always present in the martial arts he's been doing for around 20 years now. or some friend of mine who's a morrocan in germany got an arabique/morrocan symbol tattooed because of her heritage. there's a lot of reasons why a tattoo can be meaningful to you in particular, and it's really hard to find something, so don't get head first into the next tattoo studio and just get "some tat"

Type in something that interests you + pintrest and look there. Sacred geometry and water colour tattoos seem to be on the way up for now.

And remember that all tattoos will fade and get shitty (some much faster than others depending on the style and location) so dont go in thinking it will look this vibrant and crisp forever (there is a reason why tattoo pics seem to be disproportionately very new or with a bunch of lens filters).

I have a general plan but it's mostly the size and orientation of what I want to get. I shopped for an artist for a couple years and I go probably once a month now.

I really leave a lot of it up to them, I just provide a general concept. I mostly want a lot of stuff my grandfather had from the Navy and some pretty standard stuff.
