Shorts that go past the knee were "in" when I was in middle school so I always associate them with the other moronic trends of that time. My longest pair of shorts just barely touches the top of my knees. Most of them sit about an inch above my knee, some of them 2 or 3 inches above. But my legs are also super hairy so I really only wear shorts to work out, do work around the house and occasionally to shop at the farmer's market when it's really hot out.

but as the other anons were saying, it depends on where you live, what you're wearing them with, and your body type. i live on the east coast and favor a more casual look for the summer and my calves and thighs are pretty reasonably developed from running, so it works for me.

Maybe Chicago. Maybe. Seattle is a less hip Portland. Austin is the only part of Texas worth seeing and then only if you're laid over. South Florida is right out.
