Florsheim ain't bad, but don't go expecting to to be the best quality. See if you can net some Allen Edmonds off ebay.
I hesitate to say loafers are okay because I'm not really sure if there is an age minimum or something since they are pretty dadcoreish.
So yeah, I'd recommend some wingtips. Florsheim is alright for the price range. DSW has an inhouse brand I hear is alright. Might wanna see if you can get some AE on ebay though.

I couldn't tell you much about Italians, but in terms of ~500 or less shoes, Allen Edmonds are some of the best shit you can get (to my knowledge anyways. 2 poor 4 me even)
If you are just looking at penny loafers, then yeah Florsheim is a'ight.
Wingtips aren't actually that fancy. A step above loafers, and a little more versatile imo. (Can be used instead of a sneaker but also good for business casual)
If the Florsheim's are good for you (and nobody else replies because I'm partly talking out of my ass I think heh) I'd say cop. For a budget of 300, you could spend the extra money and grab some new Allen Edmond loafers I have no doubt. (I've never had anyone tell me they regretted an AE purchase)
Hope that kind of helps! I've been researching on this a lot because I'm planning on dropping 300+ on some new shoes in a few weeks as well. What design on Florsheim were you thinking anyways?

How do leather boots fare in snow?
If wearing them in snow is an incredibly bad idea, what material should I be looking for? Just looking around for boots that are branded as "waterproof" is far too limiting.

Can Brown boots go with black skinnies, or is brown shoes and black trousers a no-no?

A common misconception is that a boot must be waterproof in order to keep stuff out. The reality is that leather by itself already is pretty damn good at keeping liquid out, and will always keep liquid out as long as you maintain them it will retain their water repellent qualities.
I think what is tripping you up is the sole. A leather sole + wet conditions is a bad day waiting to happen. It ruins the sole and is just in general bad. So aim for rubber/vibram/something else. Just do your research on the sole quality and you will be fine.
Back onto the leather bit though, I have a pair of LL Bean Katahdins. They aren't the water proof version, but I went running through the snow on my way to class and my feet were fine. Most leather boots will be fine as long as you aren't standing around in snow or rain for like an hour or something. If you are that worried though, get a conditioner that waterproofs. (or just any conditioner and make sure you really get it in the seams because that is where it will be the worst) As long as you condition them maybe every week or so + use shoe trees, they will keep your feet dry. Hope this helps!
