you gotta be a dense motherfucker...
watches aren't part of fashion

they are status symbols, 'cause you can't take your yacht into the yacht-club, you take you Frank Müller.

if you find a cheap one that looks somehow fashionable like a edgy vostok hipster shit or, OMG so minimal braun watches e.c.t you still a joke to people in the known.

this threads end up shit anyways, because there is nothing to discuss, you'll suck anyones cock when you see them IRL spouting a +10k and let's not talk 'bout them dirty jews I know who run around with patek.

you either have the money to waste a lot of money or you try to build a super franken with the super replicas from asia or GTFO no ones interested in your seiko, vostok motherfucking dollar watches.

if you get gmt2 you certainly have to go with the incorrecthandstack.
dont know who but a few years ago some factory made correct one but it was just domed from the start because they had to make a lot of modifications to the movement so it was unreliable

If you hang around peps who own real rollies I wouldnt buy a current gen model it has to many obvious tells, most obvious is the bezel numerals color, they just can't replicate the original platinum effect.

if you want a rollie get the BP seadweller(the old model), cheap and even people who know rolex don't remember what it looked like 10years ago

Different people like watches for different reasons.

Some people like them as "status symbols". They buy 200,000 dollar watches.

Some people use them to actually keep time. They'll buy some atomicly syncronized quartz watch that's probably solar powered, and may have a fuckload of other features on it as well.

Some like them as fashion accessories. They'll buy many different kinds of watches.

Personally, I see a mechanical watch as a work of art, and that's why I like them.

Some not too gaudy Seiko.

It's just hard to recommend cheap watches as they are pretty much all the same, except for looks. But I would say that you need to spend at least around 300 dollars for a good quality bracelet construction.

But I don't really know all that much about cheap watches. I wear quite expensive stuff, and that's a completely different thing altogether. It's fine to wear a cheap watch, but it has to look good and the construction needs to be of quality.

Love everything about the hands.
Do not like analog/digital hybrid. Not sure what the function on the bottom is (timer) but a day/date wheel +cyclops would be preferable to a digital day

How is the quality?
Does the leather hold?
Any problems with it?

>> No.8462704

>>8462680

The quality is reasonably good for the price. The leather is soft, flexible, easy to scratch, the buckle seems concaved and the pin wobbly - still a reasonable strap for everyday wear. Going overboard with a good quality leather strap almost seems unreasonable taking into consideration the price of the watch itself.

Problems.

The spring-loaded lug bars are shit. One of mine clicks when pushed on.
The strap arguably needs a replacement.
Accuracy may be sporadic [mine has -40sec over 14 days, which is good].
Depending on how autistic you are, the face ink-print may be unsatisfactory.
> Picture related in my last post. 3 hour indicator doesn't allign with outside dash, some minute markings printed lighter than others, some 5 second indicators on second face printed darker or clearer than others. I didn't notice the inconsistency in face printing until two weeks in, and you probably didn't either when you initially looked at my picture.

Fuck you and the horse you rode in on, philistine. Better yet, you fuck the horse, and the horse can ride you out.

I'm a hobbyist watchmaker, and I wear mechanicals because not only do I like the look, but I am able to comprehend and appreciate the sheer elegance of design that goes into a good mechanical watch. The same sort of appreciation that those who aren't crass halfwits will have for anything functional that's still crafted with passion and attention to detail, e.g. an old viola or a restored E-type or old Ducati.

Pic is a VJ 7750 piece I just recently assembled mostly from parts of a broken Longines Grand Vitesse. Still gotta order stuff for the case.

>Tissot, Hamilton, TAG Heuer
Underappreciated design for some pieces, and right at times, but these can also be a sign that you are a poorfag and/or douche. Choose with care.

You clearly have taste and should feel entitled to some small respect for this.

You have no idea what you're talking about and clearly don't know about business in the watch world. The Sub has been almost exactly the same for half a century. Replicas and homages have not changed this. One of the things that makes Rolex famous is just how ridiculously conservative they are in their design choices. Their "new" models are just things like the Deepsea and Sea-Dweller that don't really change much up.

People buy Rolex for the classic look combined with the unparalleled durability, and they're not changing their buying habits. Rolex engineers the shit out of their watches. There's a reason why the vintage market is so big: the style is still relevant and the mechanics still work incredibly well even after so long. They still retain their tool watch legacy.

IWC: Spitfire or Portofino, depending on dress. The Zeiss one is also cool, but brushing on ostentatious. Sinn: The 6052 is gorgeous, but only on those of us with bigger wrists and hands. If you're too small, you'll end up just looking like a douche.

>fuck off
I'd much rather be wearing a Hamilton when on some hiking trip or my bike or doing something more active, thank you. It might not bear "close inspection", but at least I'm not ruining a better piece if something happens.

And if you'd actually consider wearing most of the stuff from Chopard or Hublot, you're 99.9% likely to be an overpaid douche who needs a few hard life knocks. Same with Breitling. Cluttered, overworked trash. Very elegantly put together trash, yes. But still the watch world's equivalent to crown jewels slapped on a cashier.

Can't agree; with casual cloth, the colour isn't a problem unless you're very anal about having every piece's colour matching the others'; and in a formal setting it works just fine, particularly considering dive watches on bracelet pass with a suit nowadays.
It's just a matter of opinions but when it comes to this, I think the Cocktail time is more try-hard than a cool Alpinist.

I've barely heard of any particular fancy for the Alpinist, and I don't credit it with much. Seiko make their watches surprisingly good in certain regards, and there might be some cred there, but I wouldn't be caught with something with that fat of a rim, nor with hands that cluttery. are you sure you want a chronograph though? I know you'd think you'll use it, but have you actually had one before?

Anyhow don't go with one on a leather bracelet, with a chronograph you want a sporty steel bracelet, or if you hate stainless steel, go at least with a NATO strap.

Also I think that watch is way too cluttered and I wouldn't get a mediocre quartz watch for 500€. That's half way to a really decent watch. Anyhow look into the Tissot PRC 200 if you have to insist.
Also check the lug-to-lug, you need an adequate wrist for most chronographs.

Yeah, I've had Chronos before and I use the functionality, it comes in handy. I would be very annoyed if I were wearing a watch but couldn't chrono something and had to take out my phone. I'd feel like the money I spent was wasted.

Considering it's solar powered and it radiosyncs I'd say it's pretty good for a quartz.

Also, I really don't like stainless steel bracelets, they feel... vulgar?
I mean, ideally I'd get an IWC portuguese chrono, but I'm not really willing to spend that much money/carry something that expensive on my wrist

I just like the classic and elegant or the technically intriguing but restrained. Stuff like most Chopard pieces makes me puke because they're so overblown. LeCoultre I can stand, but they still look incredibly expensive without reason sometimes.

I have to admit a definite preference for Longines. The Grand Clasiques L4 with the 686 is probably the definition of a tasteful suit watch, and the LQ012 is probably the same definition of a tasteful sports watch, if you ask me (though the latter gets pretty stiff competition from the Omega Speedmaster).

Because Nixon is overpriced and not in a good way.

You would get actually well made watches for Nixon money. Instead you get 30$ movement, 10$ bracelet and a 40$ case/dial for 250$.

On the other hand they are reasonably well made for fashion watches, so at least you are not buying total garbage. Still for 250$ you would get much better watches from Citizen, Seiko, Swatch or hell even Timex.

It beats Armani and Fossil though. So congratulations for that.

>>8482179
I like HAQ quartz watches and like the idea of GPS watches. I can also see the benefit in a GShock, but only if you practically live outside.

Nixon is just objectively way way too overpriced. Only luxury watches are allowed to have those margins and they can do it because you really get the best everything.

Actually, he's laughing at the fact that it's obviously a Chinese movement. And not even a reasonably good one, like you get in Parnis or what have you. Can't remember the name, but I recognize those pins, that geometry and that cheap-ass pot metal exposed fastening bridge any day. Also, the dial finish is horrible. It's a blatant fake, and the poster knows it.

>>8482927
Haven't even heard of Nixon. If you want anything American in watches, I'd recommend a Hamilton; their new designers and style are pretty fuckin' neat and they have ETA movements. Americans who can actually design original watches from the ground up successfully are few and far between though, and not of this generation it seems.

For 250$ you should Ebay yourself a Tissot or Citizen. You can get some pretty sweet deals, and you'll end up with a solid product most likely.
