Rei Kawabuko is one of the most influential designers alive, and certainly would be placed on any short list of most influential designers of all time.

Additionally, many designers work with pattern makers. In fact, very few designers actually make their own patterns. This is because no one gives a shit about the ability of the designer to cut and sew fabric, they want the designer's vision. Also, the fact that she had a degree in aesthetics is really just a contributing argument to her legitimacy as a designer.
