Hey /fa/ I've been a pen collector for several years and I believe that the pen is an accessory that is just as important as any other. Post your fit, edc, and price range and I will give you a recommendation and w2c.

How do I into a nib pen that won't be a mess in a demanding work environment?
> heat changes

I like the result of using a fine or ball nib calligraphy pen, but that would destroy my shirts.

OP here, had the same problem when I was starting university, was located in a hot + humid location to boot, and had a student's budget. What worked for me was Lamy Safari with a fine point nib filled with Lamy proprietary ink, this combination ensured that the pen would never leak. Amazon has the best pricing but take a look at Lamy's selection here

I too have collected pens, though I've not been as serious about it as in years previous, as my written work has tapered off for the moment and I'm doing more work with a computer.

This is what I've had inked for the past month or so. The platinum version makes for something more easily carried around than the gold.

A good pen is one of those forgotten accouterments as far as such items are discussed on /fa/, though it's heartening to see on those EDC threads that some still carry something with which to write, even if it's just some disposable pilot gel - which is a look in itself (practical, no nonsense ,/g/).

Montblancs in general I'll be honest are pocket jewelry, and thought they can look nice I much prefer my Pelikans for actual writing.

I will recommend Lamy as well, but I don't like the safari ones for technical reasons.
They are by all accounts sturdy and all, very good for school (that was their purpose and probably their main market), but if you want something "techy" look at the Lamy 2000.

The design itself is something really special (designed in the 60's or 70's - the only pen that holds an exhibit at MOMA, since whenever it was created and won some art award). It's very well made and easily maintained.

Though I have German made pens that cost many, many times more than it, I find that it's really much more practical and "usable" than other pens I have, because fuck screwing caps on and off and on and off. Besides being a click on/off cap, the pen is actually designed to not dry out immediately with the cap off - good for lectures I suppose.

I just use a muji one, use an ink syringe to drain and dispose the muji water ink with clumps in it, flush with hot water. Then I replace with Parker quink. It's readily available. I experimented with a dark green black month black ink but it hurt my eyes after awhile and went back to boring old blue black same ink all other cheap pens use

Blue black just means when diluted the fuck out of it you'll see it's just a shit load of blue to make "black" ie dip a pen in water and look

I don't know how you stand it. I can't read my old student days writings because most of them were written with fadey blue quink. Do I really need to read that stuff? Nah. Still, I don't like the idea that it has just faded. Maybe I just diluted it far too much.

I have never been a fan of the way Rotring ballpoints and mech. pencils have the lead/ink cartridge sleeve extend beyond the barrel in that little point on the end. I feel they could be slightly tapered. But this model and ones like it are high quality yet very durable which is important because it means you don't have to baby it around to avoid scratches and dents or staining wood/lacquer etc.

Still giving recommendations if anyone wants to post a fit/edc and price range

The new 600 ballpoints are tapered like a pleb pen. The reason for the little snout on the old ones is because they started off as a technical pen that'd be used with straightedges and other drafting tools.

This is tough because there are not a lot of Cross lookalikes, and the pen&pencil competitors produced by Parker, Sheaffer, etc. are also no longer produced in the USA. I own a vintage Cross Century Classic set produced in the USA. Check out eBay for New Old Stock (vintage sets that have not been opened from their original packaging and were acquired as part of store clearance) Cross sets, I think this would be your best bet

What price range and how large are your hands and what kind of aesthetic are you looking for? If you like the P205, the Staedtler 925 and Rotring 500 pencils are both excellent.

>>8345972
For just $5 Pilot G2 while mundane is still your best bet. When I travel and need a cheap but good ballpoint that can be thrown around I carry a Lamy Noto which matches your description exactly but costs a bit more. $14.50 on Amazon but it's worth it

No worries it can be done. Lamy makes 1.9mm italic nibs for the Safari fountain pen and these are quite good. You will want to order a spare nib unit and the pen itself, both of which should cost around total $40 or so
