Whenever I'm in Hong Kong, it's usually loose shorts, cotton/linen pants, and then very thin jerseys on top. No way to avoid sweating, but helps to pick fabrics that don't get gross when they get damp.

One of the worst possible fabrics for humidity. Linen is great, though.

along with linen, synthetic (polyester) and wool are actually two more great options.

you'll find synthetic in lightweight outdoor/activewear clothing. garments are generally very light and breathable. brands like ark'teryx, black diamond, even patagonia & marmot and the like have considerably well-fitting and designed options - i suppose there's potential if you're into techwear with this route.

wool sounds counter-intuitive, however lightly woven wool shirts/underwear are surprisingly light and, being wool, wick moisture well - facilitating cooler/drier wear than cotton. wool is naturally anti-microbial as well, so it doesn't stink, even with sweat/repeated wear, which is another nice quality. for moderately affordable options check ibex, smartwool, icebreaker.
