I am totally new to /fa/. This is my first post here. I want a watch badly. I don't want it to be too large, but I want a metal link band. I can't afford a $300 watch, but I would spend upwards of $100. Something along the lines of a Fossil, but you know, not shitty. Durability is the main concern as I lead a bit of a rough and tumble life. So durability, not ostentatious, metal band.

Steinhart's OVM has an very reliable ETA movement and should be in your budget. They also make good pilot watches so check it out.
Seiko SARB065 is slightly more formal but pretty.

I really don't see how you could go wrong with buying a chris ward diver.

>>8274461
Depends who you ask, some people say its just marketing and that there is no real difference in accuracy or service time between co-axial and non co-axial movement.
However from what I remember you can get the speedmaster in co-axial as well.

I think its best if you tried both watches on in person. I would consider this a purchase to last me years so I would ask myself if the bold stylings of the Racer will still appeal to me in 10 years?
But I do see what you mean about the yellow accents, I was quite drawn towards the Omega 15,000 gauss. Didn't go for it because I saw the novelty of the colour and bumblebee hand wearing off after a while.

>> No.8274482

>>8274461
The co-axial movement is interesting from an horological perspective but it isn't anything that the consumer would really care about. It reduces the friction on the pallet fork stones, reducing overall wear. The point is somewhat moot since watches with traditional escapement that have been around for decades to centuries can still run with proper maintenance.

No I don't, but I'm going to get myself one and I've heard nothing but good things about it. It's like a hundred dollars or so, so for the price I don't think you could complain.

I hear it's pretty loud if you pay attention to it yes, again that's stuff that I read. The leather band that comes with it is supposedly shit but you can always swap it out, even for a NATO band if you want (pic related, i like how it looks). Seems you can dress it down a bit, I never dress very formal so I hope i can make it work with some more casual outfits.

So yeah just a suggestion, if you don't mind the fact that it's a bahauss homage watch and not "the real thing", then it should be good. But then again the Bahauss one is a LOT more expensive than this one.

Does anyone know if there is anywhere, I MEAN ANYWHERE you can buy the old Casio MVD102 "diver" watches? I know they were discontinued around 2011 but there's no way the supply has dried up completely, I mean they're fucking Casios.

Honestly, I only want one because they look awesome, cost next to nothing and have those LED lights that can be seen from space.

I checked eBay and some jerk is selling one exactly like pic related for $200.

Help me out here guys, there's gotta be somewhere I can find these...the 106 just isn't the same.

I find Uniform Wares to be really shitty in the design category, it's obnoxiously minimalist at the same time as the palettes are 'quirky' and it just reminds me of a more pretentious version of something a 2011 peacoat-wearing dick would buy.

That personal bit of distaste aside, I have no idea if they're actually good watches, aside from a hunch they are since I don't think mrporter would stock them otherwise, and I do like the fact that their design allows for them to be worn casually or as a kind of semi-dress watch.

Cousin of the Amphibian, a rare Vostok Neptune.

Aside from vintage Radio Rooms, Meranom has had some nice modern ones. I love the new black dial, pictured, but the 110 case isn't great. I'm hoping he offers it in some other cases soon. The 420 special edition is a nice alternative, I love the unique bezel especially, but the dial isn't as catching.

That's cool I didn't know about that one.
Vostok might be considered more authentic with the design, since they also produced the ship's wall clocks with the same design. I don't know the whole history. Vostok Europe also produces a few radio room watches, but much different looking than these.

The one I pictured above is not considered a special edition, so it's as cheap as the regular Amphibians. It's just that the case does not have curved lugs so it sticks out somewhat unless you have large wrists. Something to consider.
Meranom sometimes offers free shipping. There's also a small discount coupon code 'wus2013'. Last, if you order with rubles the price is cheaper after conversion.

I used to work in a coffee shop right in the CBD under a mining company. There's this old rad exec dude who comes in every day always wearing dope shit and looking good for his age.

Leans up on the machine to chat one time and notice he's wearing a Luminor Marina and I was just like.
"Is that?..."
He just smiled and nodded and we talked watches for a bit and then he left. He let me try it on the next day.

Sometimes I miss that job.

Panerai will be much cooler in, say, 10 years when every single movement is in house.

Right now they're charging way too much for slightly decorated 6497 movements on the base models. Suckers getting suckered out of their money.

I've got a Swiss made watch with a 6497. I paid $500. The few thousand charged is not proportionate to the quality you're getting.

I should add that I really like the look of Panerais, I'm just disappointed with the pricing on their base models.

Broke college kid reporting.

Can anyone recommend a good cop for my next watch? I'm looking to save up a bit more this time (just bought the Fossil as an impulse buy when I needed a watch other than my G Shock - which I only use for fishing and snowboarding, don't worry) maybe spend around $300-$400 and preferably with a leather band. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Pic related is what I wear now, it was pretty cheap.

You want an honest opinion from someone who is seeing the watch for the first time? I think it looks hideous personally. Very reminiscent of a cheap casio but in metal, and kind of looks like it comes in the bottom of a "Wheaties" box. The only redeemable factor is that it's expensive. At least if people talk mad shit about it, you can always brag about how expensive it is I suppose...

Don't listen to these idiots saying to drop more than a grand, there is plenty of neat shit far below that price. If you're still in college you have nothing to prove yet with a luxury watch.

Get anything above the mediocre quartz fashion brands like Fossil. The average person won't know the difference, but you'll have something that will hold up far better and longer, indefinitely even. Even watches of the same price range but manufactured by actual watch companies with some history will be better than the fashion stuff.

The money you're saving just means you can get also get several watches to better match more fits. Get something nice for a dress watch, then a few more casual watches to wear whenever. Also remember straps are dispensable, so buy the watch you like regardless of the strap it comes with. You can then buy several straps to further stretch each watch's potential.

Germans offer the best value for money in pre-luxury price points.
Steinhart offers a great divers range with ETA movements which is great for people who don't fancy a Seiko or digital watch.
Sinn offers possibly the sturdiest ETA tool watches and are priced extremely well between £1-2k. In fact the only question at that price point when it comes to tool watches is whether you should go for a Tudor and get something you can dress up.
Apologies if I've missed any out.
