I think it''s safe to try this again.

I posted some time over a year ago, I think it november, 2012.
I was asking about what peoples personal twists on style were, I mentioned how I thought Space was the next trend. A dozen posts later, the thread was a dump of astronaut shit and complicated colour schemes..
A couple days later, 'Lunarcore inspo thread', image post max achieved, several times.

I was fascinated at first, but it devolved quickly into weird fucking pants, strange boots and orange sunglasses?

It turned into a mishmash of space-related pieces; no form, loose colour schemes, incoherent adaptation.

That's not really what I meant, but it wasn't up to me anymore.
I wanted space age minimalism, like techwear you could wear to the office, or the mall, without looking like you were trying, without people even knowing what you were doing but they couldn't help think of space in your presents.
Colour schemes that made you think space, without a bunch of weird shit that screamed I LIKE SPACE
Fabrics that were exceptional in what they did and how they fit the body, intelligently.
Subtlety?
People went too far, the style was interesting but they were on the fringe instead of at its core.
And lunarcore? Who the fuck said anything about the moon? Why create such a niche, vintage limitation?

I don't know guys, is spacecore dead before anybody knew how to pull it off?
I didn't want Y3s and halo-pants
I wanted a composition of lustrous fabrics, space-like colour schemes, and ultra minimalism.

A t-shirt, some pants, and the right shoes, could easily be spacecore.

The CP in the first image I posted is the direction I meant for this to go in.
Instead, we got this.

>> No.8218094

Why did you delete the old thread?
Stop fucking about man.
Do you have any fits to post, or even any ideas or inspiration for what you're explaining?

Let's see space minimalism, I'm open to it, I just think cosplaying isn't a smart thing to do and yes it is cosplay when it comes down to it.
If you can't incorporate your style or elements of your style into a fancy party or something very formal, then it's probably not worth holding onto, that what I've always thought.

>> No.8218149

>>8218094
that's the thing, it's not cosplaying at all. That's where the interpretation really fell off.

If you can't do spacecore in the middle of the summer without getting hot as fuck, you should reconsider how you're wearing clothing, and how they would actually be worn in a space influenced age.

That's the difference between cosplay and fashion, I like to think at least. Fashion incorporates day-to-day functionality on one level or another, cosplay forgoes it entirely.

This image is a good example. Don't think about the fact that it's star trek, think about how it's an interpretation of what clothes would be worn in the age when we are in space frequently. It ISN'T complicated. That's the feature I hate most about lunarcore, it's fucking garishly overcomplicated.

Space Age Minimalism.

I hear you and everything, it sounds better than actually dressing up like a spaceman.
Fuck I remember when people were posting actual spacesuits in infographics and threads.

They said "oh we need cargo pants since it has the same details as shit spacesuit" and it just became shitty.
Even poet has given up, his last lunar fits were fucking shit.

But all this is going to fall flat if you can't post some solid concepts or outfits I'm afraid.
Black and white minimalism, space minimalism yeah it sounds good.

I've already tried lunarcore and I made cops I regretted, I don't want to get into a "core" again or some quick /fa/ meme bullshit.
Gothninja, lunarcore, it's all just awful, but I'm open to your ideas.

so basically you're saying your more interested in futuristic menswear rather than futuristic workwear/military inspired?

why didnt you just say so

i think the push towards futuristic versions of workwear/hobocore/etc etc were mainly because its whats available and what the people who really took over and spearheaded what we have now were into. but if you look at a lot of scifi 70s and 80s movies you'll find a lot of stuff that is more in your vein.

i'm also interested in the more refined, clean cut, slight touches of future, stuff like what a high class business man on a space station would wear... but the nitty gritty dirty messy look suits me a little better i think and so thats what i have gone for... stuff like what regular guys, the working poor or even just middle class or soldiers etc etc would wear. but they are both cool

the thing is subtlety is extremely key to both unless you are going for a blown out crazy hyperbole look that is more jokey or self conscious. for me its usually just a couple little things that can turn it into something more, something evocative of the future. most of my fits really fall short of my vision though, i'm just doing what i can

well it seems like you're interested in a sort of space age idealism. futurism and stuff.
clean lines, uncluttered slim silhouettes, soft colors, etc.
The core brands that immediately come to mind are Ministry of Supply (pic related) and Outlier. Two companies that are taking the common menswear basics and reinterpreting them with advanced fabrics and concepts. from there you can look at a variety of designers (perhaps Iceberg or Opening Ceremony) for patternwork and interesting cuts.
i think it would help to build the idea outfit- describe how the shirt, pants, belt, outerwear, socks, hat, shoes, etc. would be designed/who would design them/textiles/etc.

thanks for posting a space odyssey, that was the direction I'd envisioned, but the 'alien' movie was more influential, naturally the alien universe is a lot more superficially interesting and popular.

I see the trend as being able to branch out into many other areas, such as military and workwear, gothic, tech, retro, lunar, etc. The latest interpretation was something like workwear, lunar and retroistic features, and the problem to me is that it jumped a little too quickly into a highly specialized part of space without mastering the fundamentals, and that's why it failed.

People jumped into wearing torn up jackets and blistered shoes with hardly reminiscent qualities to each other, but the concept of Space and futurism became not only apparent, but overt in a bad way.

They're modern pictures as in they were taken this year or a few years before.

When you look at a picture of an astronaut is it a modern photo? No it's not you clown, so this style is modern, it already exists and now you're trying to categorize it as futuristic, when it's mostly just monochrome minimalism.

But once again /fa/ has to create a stupid sub-culture that'll last a month or a year at best. Maybe just think a bit more before running your mouth mate.

I know they're modern, and the idea isn't new.

I just think my problem is my scope of fashion is highly limited to /fa/ because I'm here too much, and in my small city I can't see any modernist/futurist outfits.

So, I see the idea, it's in photos on the internet, but nobody here is doing it, nobody on any of the other forums I frequent are doing it either.

If it can be pushed here, and then elsewhere, and then through all of the other facets of the internet media in varying degrees of quality, then it might become less of a hypothetical trend and more of an observable and popular trend where we would see fits of it posted here and elsewhere.

It seems right now it's just being employed by designers and small highly fashion oriented communities. I want to see it explode, I want to see it dominate.

I've been reading a lot about semantics and reality; I know I'm getting off topic but I truly believe the first world nations would adopt a more modern and intelligent view and set of goals if the clothes we started to wear represented the ideal future we want to usher in.

I literally want to go to space, I want peoples realities to visualize it as a near-future thing for us all to do, so we will build into it naturally. If that starts with soft-cream sweaters and grey trousers.

if I'm taking credit for it, and you're anonymous, and I'm anonymous, then aren't you taking credit for it?

I'm being honest, I did post the first thread that resulted in poets massive contribution, but he and the rest of /fa/ derailed the idea into something far too specialized, and the fact remains that it is now a laughing stock more than an aspiration because of this.

Poet himself wasn't necessarily 'bad', but he had his interpretation, and the passion to show us what it was. It was a little over the top, and hard to associate with, because we have yet to master the fundamentals of modernist couture
Whether he was doing something incredible, or absolutely awful, is hard to interpret because we simply lack the culture, and the context, to view it as he viewed it.

Maybe one day we will say 'Wow poet was doing what we want to do a decade earlier'
or maybe we will say 'what the fuck was he thinking'
Either way I don't condemn his fits.

And I don't like- I never liked- Lunarcore. stop limiting yourself. Lunarcore implies retro-futurism due to the association it has with the space-race.

I get what youre saying OP.

Its a difficult one to really judge on though and I feel youre being slightly unfair with the idea that lunarcore isnt about cosplaying. Im not a cosplay enthusiast, but at the end of the day what you are trying to piece together is a "costume".

I think the main problem with lunarcore was that people needed to actually think for themselves, if anything i was a game, it wasnt about copping stuff off the inspo graphics, it was about seeing random clothing and piecing it together with other stuff to create an image of a futuristic society.

This clashes a lot with /fa/s typical attitude towards brandwhoring and price tag comparing.
