Rickdidas are pretty TTS.

Quite comfy actually, I don't mind walking in them all day at all.

I'm usually a US10.5-11 and originally tried on a 43 in the Rickdidas. They accidentally sold me a 44 and they still fit fine, a bit of room though but nothing crazy. My velcros are a 43. So there's some reference for you!

I'm trying to get experience in that stuff, there's always new small clothing companies appearing who need someone like that, though it'd be a good gateway into fashion as a whole.

Raf Velcros, Marsell backzip boots, Rick Owens Ramones
Ann D. lows, Gram 400g monkcreepers, Silent Damir highs

Not pictured (that I wear) are a nice pair of Paul Smith sleek brogues, and (that I don't wear) some dark brown suede CP Achilles, some other Gram, Silent low boot things and a pair of Silent Saturs worn only a couple of times I'm looking to sell.

The Velcros are my favorite colourway other than the solid all-black, it's a less shiny black with navy and grey, more subtle than most other velcros but still interesting.

And the picture does no justice to the Marsell boots, they're gorgeous and feel incredible, I copped them last week, also sort of a present from/to myself, and from my GF. I'll post a fit soon maybe.

I'm conflicted, /fa/, and I need your help. I want to save up for a good pair of shoes in the 400 dollar range, and I initially wanted CPs, probably because /fa/ beat into my head that they were the best and >muh quality and >muh character and all of that. Now that I've done some looking, though, I'm not convinced they're the best choice; they do look great, but I've seen questionable quality from what /fa/ has shown me, and I can cop a pair of rafdidas for only a little more. Also, for less money, I could get pretty much any Y3 sneakers- I'm a huge fan of qasas, but I can't seem to find any models of those in stock anywhere except for the b-balls, which I hate, incidentally.

What should I do, /fa/? Cop that pair of grey rafdidas with the yellow detailing on the back? The green and white rafdidas? Hunt for qasas? Or just resign myself to the /fa/ uniform and buy CPs?

fuck cps. unless you're a huge quality advocate with your clothing, you can get the same silhouette for much much cheaper. I remember trying on a pair of these years ago in nordstroms for a fraction of the retail price they are now and not being impressed. If you're going to spend money, spend money on a design that you couldn't otherwise obtain.

adirafs are a very striking shoe and will last you a long time but they aren't really regular rotation worthy in my opinion unless you really just wore them all the time. they're a very comfortable, durable shoe, just know they're very clunky and large and tricky to size. I sold my pair.

qasa's are hands down one of my favorite shoe designs ever and the most comfy shoes I own (or have owned). they're extremely durable as well and hardly show wear so if you're going to put money down for one pair of shoes I'd make it these. the design is great but the colorways are muted so you can wear them all the time too and they literally go with everything (streetwear, drapy shit, basic color blocks, w/e). roshes don't even compare in any way shape or form. they feel nothing alike. size down .5 if you cop.

>please explain to me why everyone here enjoys pigeonholing and reducing popular shoe designs into this "meme shoe" thing effay loves to hate. I happen to have enough money to comfortably buy what I like, and most of these shoes were purchased upon original release date (probably before they garnered hype/ obsession/ hate by most people). was never sure if this was just a long standing joke, or this board brainwashing people into hating particularly popular or expensive items, or just people being vocally salty/ poor, or what.

It's not exactly that. I'm not poor, and I'm not salty that other people have those shoes, because they're not my taste anyway. "Meme shoes" means exactly what it sounds like -- shoes that are big on the internet. Raf velcros, y-3 qasas, white af1s, jordan 1s, roshes, geobaskets... those are internet shoes, man. It might be partially envy of the money that those shoes cost, but if so it's more like being mad that you didn't do anything interesting with all that money. You couldn't buy more than one pair of shoes that I don't recognize? And these aren't even my kind of shoes!

The sad truth is that, just like with music, nobody cares if you were there first, "before the hype". It's too easy to claim, for one. But it also doesn't make the collection any more interesting in 2014. What makes your taste different from anyone else's on this board? Going by your collection alone, absolutely nothing.

You don't have to be a pompous cunt to place some value on individuality. If your taste looks like it was copied straight from the internet, it makes you seem a bit less interesting. It's not all-important, but it's not meaningless, either.

>This is hilarious because your whole narrative is riffing on 'the hype' and then you pull this shit comment

The guy was saying
>most of these shoes were purchased upon original release date (probably before they garnered hype/ obsession/ hate by most people)
in self-defense. My point was that in practice this defense doesn't work. If your shoes become a trending thing, that will make them less cool to other people when the trend has passed, even if you found them first. Protesting that you were early to it just makes you sound desperate.

>>8214597
Most of raf's shoes don't have as much hype around them as the velcros. Rick releases tons of shoes that aren't as recognizable as the geobasket. Pretty much every y-3 shoe is discussed less than the Qasa.

I'm not saying anyone needs to wear obscure shoes that nobody has heard of. And for what it's worth, I also never said that having a collection of 100% meme shoes was such a terrible thing. I think the phrase deserved some defense against meaningless abuse, because it DOES mean something. G's shoe collection is actually pretty good. But it's meme shoes. If he's going to insult people who say so, I'll defend those people.

that doesn't make my statement about you turning 180 and not seeing the joke any less relevant.

Consider this, maybe people like something outside of the trend? Maybe he's just telling you that he liked them outside of the popularity they accrued - like he'd down actual research to specify his tastes? Did that ever occur to you?

It means ABSOLUTELY nothing and I'm seriously not going to have some shit head who is literally putting notes onto an image he is uploading onto 4chan in order to JUSTIFY his purchases to a bunch of anons

The internet exists outside of 4chan, the world is a bigger place than 4chan. For you to go around denouncing random peoples shoe collections because of your 4chan experience is bizzare.

I'm not trying to "push" hype as a consideration, I'm acknowledging that it is one. Styles or products go in and out of fashion for a reason, and it's not just because fashion makes progress. What's out now is largely a reaction to what was in 3-10 years ago.

The problem with trends isn't so much that you're "following" them -- most people don't think they're following trends when they buy into them. It's more that your tastes are subconsciously evolving in ways not so different from a large segment of the fashion community. You grew up in similar circumstances, browse similar internet communities, etc.

as for whose collections I'm denouncing, I didn't denounce anyone's. I just wanted to defend the phrase "meme shoes". and I think it has some relevance in an /fa/ thread, where they ARE kinda boring

I'm sure you wanted my image to leave you "in stitches" whatever it contained

if I don't point out that my geier glove moccasins are slippers, somebody's going to call me out for wearing them in public. I'd rather disclaim what they are with a note on the image than have to respond to someone. If I'm entering this thread in the middle of an argument with a shoe collection picture, I expect criticism, and I'd like to preempt some of it.

elaborate on this, are you saying every consumer is actively considering the hype at whatever intersect when consuming? I can't prove that that aspect doesn't ENTIRELY not exist, it might always in some latent (vile) region of a persons hemisphere, indivisible or whatever.
But I can tell you that for a handful of people I know (and myself I would l like to say) 'fashion' as a cyclical motivator is not majorly permuting in my mind during my consideration 'process' ... or I don't recognise it as such.

So for you to spin that shit with "But all consumers are slaves to the fashion cycle!" is trash.

>The problem with trends isn't so much that you're "following" them -- most people don't think they're following trends when they buy into them. I mean...you can say that, and then I can argue against it, and then you can argue BUT YOU JUST DONT KNOW IT YET and then I can take an MRI and tell you to eat shit but really I'll just tell you right now that you're inconceivably wrong and that when I'm buying zoot suits and finely moulded polyester dresses there isn't an inch of me thinking 'what's the weight in hype?' because I've done my research and found what works for me.
Obviously a product of experience but I will always argue against it being a 'trend' orientated process, instead something that resonates with me for x y and z reasons.
So for you to make that absurd inference on every consumer is just ridiculous.

ok. check it. (1/2)

I'm a young adult with years of experimenting with various fashion directions under my belt, and at this point in time I can say with confidence that I've developed my own personal style to where I buy what I like and what compliments me and not what hype dictates the newest trend is. a lot of the shoes in my collection are polarizing; even at the height of their popularity there are people who hate them. I don't buy items for approval or praise (and if I did they're not really working for me so I'd probably have picked something different to show here), I buy items I've seen, I like, and that I want to work into my personal style (and most importantly I feel that I can do justice!!!)

ex: I bought my first pair of AF1's in 2006 way before I knew effay existed and before the Internet was a factor. Jordan 1s have been around forever and I wanted a pair of Breds SPECIFICALLY ever since I saw them rocked as a kid and I'm finally at a point in my life where I can buy a pair. I saw a pair of velcros on tumblr a year or two back and fell in love, and then found out who they were designed by after the fact. why's it matter how I developed my tastes? does that justify what I own more or less? I don't walk up to people and tell them I used to own a pair of og rick dunks before instagram existed, or anything.

>Rick releases tons of shoes that aren't as recognizable as the geobasket.
Sure Rick makes a bunch of shoes, and I like a handful beyond Geos (and dislike more than I like), but not enough to justify the pricepoint, whether that be because of design, or practicality in my wardrobe vs money spent. If I simply had money to throw away I'd own a pair of plinth boots but that's not feasible whatsoever rn.) Geos aren't heavily branded. I'm not buying them because I'm a RO fanboy or something. The design is striking and unique enough (in my opinion) to justify it's price and popularity. for everyone? no. for me? yes!

>Pretty much every y-3 shoe is discussed less than the Qasa.
I saw the Qasa video preview last year when it went live and decided I loved them, wrote the drop date on my calendar, and counted the days down. Qasa's were admittedly the first first-hand experience I had with y-3; I haven't liked anything prior or since (not a fan of the brand, tbh), but the shoe itself is my most favorite shoe design, ever, and one of my most worn pairs.

>It might be partially envy of the money that those shoes cost, but if so it's more like being mad that you didn't do anything interesting with all that money.
if something doesn't look good on me or isn't comfy, I sell em. Nothing I own is bought or owned for the sole intention of "e-props". I'm not in high school anymore and I work hard for my money, so each of those shoes you see is a commitment to how much I personally enjoy the style - I like everything I own enough to shell out for them, which is justification in itself to me. what is "interesting"? to the general public all of these shoes are interesting, unorthodox, and not true to the norm. At least, that's what I've been told in person when I've had them on.

> If your shoes become a trending thing, that will make them less cool to other people when the trend has passed, even if you found them first.
I'm no hipster, if I personally like it, I'll buy it, and if it's a popular shoe, or expensive, or cheap, cool. whatever. if you've heard of the shoe models or the designers then they must be doing something right, that's not a thing to look down upon. I buy shoes that I think will last me a long time and that I want to wear into the ground. I've thought about my purchases long and hard. I'm thinking about picking up a pair of Rick Adidas, for example, but I'm not sure whether I truly like them as a shoe, or if I'm just excited about the concept now, and my enthusiasm will fade in the long run. either way, it's a personal decision.

>You couldn't buy more than one pair of shoes that I don't recognize? And these aren't even my kind of shoes!
how many of my shoes have you seen on the public's feet in real life? I'm sure you're on the Internet a good amount, how many $500+ shoes do you think exist in the world that you haven't heard of? you forget that your constant interaction on the Internet with fashion makes it seem like everyone and their mother owns geobaskets when I guarantee you 90% of people have absolutely zero idea that Rick Owens is a brand in the first place.

>What makes your taste different from anyone else's on this board?
all you need to know is that I'm not a trust fund kid with an Internet connection and money to burn. I've been lusting over and scavenging for hand picked grails since I was young, this is just where I'm at now. some of y'all being all elitist about some Nike collections and snobbing my Geos and at the same time dissing dude's off-brand boots. you can't have it all. man if you want to tell the story of why you chose to get them that's fine but I never accused you of following what's trendy

When I said that meme shoes are symptomatic of taste that isn't terribly individual, I don't mean taste that models itself on trends, I mean taste that evolves parallel with or even slightly ahead of trends, but in a similar direction.

The point is that no matter how soon you decided you liked Geobaskets more than rick's other stuff, or how early you were inspired by the Qasa, your taste has nonetheless moved in approximately the same directions as other people on this board. Don't forget that other people who found they loved those items after the hype aren't necessarily following the hype either, but they're inescapably part of it.

And maybe you're okay with that -- there's nothing necessarily wrong with it -- and maybe it doesn't make a shred of difference in your day to day life. But in a shoe collection thread on this board, where most of those pieces are grail status for more than a couple of people, and all are just about instantly recognizable to everyone, it makes for a sort of boring collection, and it's meme shoes.

meme shoes doesn't necessarily mean bad shoes (most meme shoes are nice shoes), or bad collection, but it's not making this thread any more interesting.

the only point I'm really trying to make is that meme shoes doesn't just mean jealousy, some people are legitimately bored by them

up front are the yuketen runner 70, which are the most sneaker-like thing he's yet made. they're based on some of his 60s/70s sneaker influences, which I suspect are like a mix of tretorn and adidas but I don't know

I don't wear all of them all that often, some of them might only come out for one day in a month. it's getting to the point where some of them are taking a long time to break in, though

but of the brown mocs I have, they're all pretty different. the tokyos in front right are more of a summer shoe than the suede bluchers in the second row, which are a little heavier and warmer-looking I think. and the oak street camp boots are more versatile than the maine guides beside them, the camo pattern on the maine guides makes them a lot louder so I have to be more careful with them I guess

idk if we're counting the red wings, but both aren't exactly brown -- the 8881s in the back are an olive color and the ones in the third row are oxblood. each has a kind of unique vibe to it relative to the rest of my collection

so I use them all for slightly different things I guess, some pairs gets worn less than others but most of them have it pretty easy, except for the Alden ones in the back, which get worn through most of winter if there's any snow on the ground

A year ago, AF1s were seldom seen on this board. They'd been big in the sneaker world, but the white af1 as a dirtied up beater shoe hadn't become a thing yet. Then one dude starts shitposting every thread with "buy af1s instead", and one picture of dirty white af1s starts circulating, and all of a sudden tons of posters are buying af1s.

I want to say it's sad, but it's more just... weird. It's like when that one poster ripped on cps and said adidas stan smiths were the real low-profile white sneaker, and someone took a screenshot and started posting it, and soon everyone was wanting stan smiths. I guess I'm amazed by how much power a single poster can have in deciding what becomes a trend on this board.

It depends on how much $400 is to you. For example, I earn minimum wage and have allocated only 15% of my income towards fashion. Thusly, I would never cop an expensive shoe ($200+) if it meant I could only wear it with one or two outfits.

Buy Rosches. They offer the same aesthetic (to outsiders) for a fraction of the price, and they look less like you're trying to be a ninja. (Unless you're into that.)

Spend your $400 on a pair of shoes that you can wear with most of your wardrobe.

The world of sneaker collecting fascinates and disgusts me in equal measure

I don't like the competitive side of it, like guys collecting shoes just to compare collections with other collectors. that seems pointless

but some guys just love sneakers, and I can understand that. sneakers are cool, and there's such a huge variety of them, so it's whatever. I can understand why people might go nuts for them.

so I don't think it's a bad thing necessarily to have a huge shoe collection if that's your thing. the problem with the sneaker world is that guys are buying shoes just to show them off on a shelf, getting shit just to compete with other guys on the internet. I like taking collection photos, I like how the shoes look all together like that, but I buy shoes because I like wearing the shoes.

anyway I guess what I'm saying is maybe it's possible to collect shoes for the wrong reasons, but having a big collection can be cool, too

>>8225411
common projects hasn't done anything that looks remotely like that
