So is this the pre-hype(2009) Rick Owens of the fragrance world?

>$120 for 50ml
>$800 for 500ml
>niche as fuck
>not even the main fragrance websites getting their hands on it
>versatile as fuck wear it whenever the fuck you want (optimal for summer)
>huge longevity, lasts forever

What does /fa/ think?

I've always loved the Monocle series, but they do tend to wear pretty quickly straight to the base notes. Part of me kind of likes that about the Monocle selection because it they have these sophisticated, intriguing profiles that kind of vanish and you're left trying to put your finger on it and wanting to get another whiff, but it's changed.

That said, I can see how this would be annoying for people who prefer a longer lasting scent for all day wear.

Anyway, hope you won't be disappointed with it.

Le Labo's range is generally good. I have 50mL decants of Bergamote (which has a great vetiver note) and Vetiver (a great pepper note) and enjoy both.

The only city exclusive I've tried is Poivre (pepper) which is nice if you want something almost balsamic. Way too expensive though, even decanted.

Heh, that was me days ago, recently bought the Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille at Holt Renfrew last weekend. I really enjoy it, very mature smell; I'd call it a sophisticated floral scent. Probably not something to wear everyday @ $400 a bottle though.

Tobacco Vanille is nice. I bought it for my boyfriend for Christmas. My best (female) friend also wears it

Honestly if you're just starting out and you're curious about more expensive fragrances it's worth getting samples. Then spend the money on designer fragrances that won't break the bank so you can expose yourself to what's out there and develop a taste.

Can someone recommend a summer day fragrance ? Not something too expensive, about 30 pounds for 50ml.

I'm going to buy my first fragrance soon and I need some tips.
I have a free Amazon Prime student account so I plan on buying it on Amazon. Is this a good idea? I've heard of people getting fake or counterfeits online. What things should I look for when buying on Amazon? If you don't recommend I buy from there, what sites do you suggest?

I'm thinking of picking up Terre d'Hermes and it's $81 for 1.6 oz from hermes.com with shipping.
On Amazon $51 and free shipping with Prime.
Is Amazon really that risky that I should pay an extra 30?

It's not too bad, really. The clove and patchouli notes are what gives it that really awful cloying hippie accord, tbh. Also gives it a weird medicinal quality. However, the many-hours-later silage it leaves is a real gem of a musk scent, at least, in my opinion.

Was interested in getting Aventus, but too many people said it was niche and try hard.

Interested in Back to Black By Kilian. Any experts?

>any experts
Uhh, you're really doing it wrong. There's no experts here, just a bunch of anons talking about their favorite fragrances and recommendations. As far as I know, not a single person thus far had shown any credentials to appear as an expert. A large majority, that boogie guy, tend to just talk out of their ass for hours. But it all really comes down to personal opinion.

Aventus is well known among fragrance enthusiasts, there's nothing try hard about it, if only for the fact that it's a Creed fragrance. Effay loves ripping on Creed because being able to hate on such a prestigious house makes them think they're a knotch above the rest. In reality, these guys are just full of shit.

I'm telling you all this because if you were really dissuaded based off what a bunch of anons said rather than you going into the store and trying it, you need to reevaluate what you're doing on here.

PS try cruel intentions

Get fucked. A lot of us have experienced a great deal of fragrances, and, or, have a very substantial collection, so our collective opinions are more valid than yours individually. Creed is fucking ridiculous, they claim to use things like ambergris, and Mysore sandalwood—probably even musk and civet—all of which are illegal to use in contemporary fragrances, so right there, they're beguiling their customer base, based on their ignorance! Beyond that, they charge ludicrous amounts for their product, just because of their name, they behave like a niche fragrance house, but as its known on other communities, their fragrances are so mass produced, they're inconsistent between batches! That shit is absolutely unacceptable...

All of that said, Aventus is a cloying pineapple bomb. Maybe the mainstream cloud will love it, but those who've spent time to refine their olfactive pallets will detest it, after enough time. All in all, my only area of agreement with your post is the suggestion for Cruel Intentions, albeit incredibly inappropriate for Spring/Summer.

I gave Aventus a shot and it definitely is my favorite. I don't agree on the price but I will probably end up biting the bullet again when my current bottle goes empty.

I'm no cologne/perfume connoisseur or expert, and neither are the majority of people around you. I always get positive comments about my scent trail, and it seems like people go out of their way to tell me how much they like it without me having to fish for complements. I enjoy the smell too so I guess it works for me.

but you bought safe as fuck fragrances. the exception being aventus just because it projects out the ass but even then everyone loves it. fragrances are like shoes, you can make do with one pair, but to make for a more versatile collection, you would need shoes - or fragrances - that would fit the occasion.
