Look up styles of handwriting you enjoy. Emulate it. Make sure you use good form, which can be learned from a variety of places. I started out with these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9iTejumckU&list=PLB8CD1114A6E6AC38

Even with calligraphy you have to make guidelines on your blank paper if you want to make straight lines. I don't think it matters if you take notes/journal in lined paper, it's much more practical for most things.

You'll have to be more specific if you want help then. "I don't understand" isn't useful, you have to be able to articulate what you don't understand. You can do what is in the video with a pencil, just keep your angles consistent and work off an exemplar

Don't think OP and the other two are same. Some people just like to have beautiful handwriting. Brings a sense of accomplishment to everything they write. I write in pen a lot, so I want my notes/poetry/etc. to be legible for easy copying. Plus I do calligraphy, it is a good skill to have imo.

It takes longer to write neatly, but as you increase in skill you are going to be able to perform the same characters at faster speeds. In addition you will be able to write them smaller, which will increase speed as well. I disagree with the statement "the better at handwriting you are the faster you write," mostly because it isn't a guarantee, you have to work towards improving speed as well as form. But I think the more practice you put in more potential for faster handwriting exists.

well obviously it's slower the neater you try to write, but if you actually become better at writing it will look better at whatever speed you use. just because someone is good at handwriting doesn't mean he can only handwrite his absolute best. my handwriting at regular speed looks a lot better than anything i could do a year ago even if i had 10 times the amount of time.

You have to get the nib and the nib holder. Essentially the nib is what the tip of a pen is, and the holder is just a convenient way to swap out nibs for different tasks. My mentor has around 20 different pens with different nibs for certain scripts.

Few good sites for supplies:

Yeah, you'll probably want to get more than one nib though. They are not as resilient as ballpoints and the tines will likely break and bend after some use, especially when just starting out.

You don't need all of this if you're a beginner, especially Old World Ink since he'll probably just waste it on fuck ups. I'd say best bet is to go to your local arts store, buy up whatever nibs and holders you can, as well as whatever ink you can find, along with a sketchbook, then order a calligraphy book

Well, the italic nib is a broad-edged nib which is used for gothic, italic, uncial, and numerous other styles. The copperplate one is strange because none of the calligraphers around here will use a straight holder for copperplate. The materials you need are what I stated, make sure you have good paper too, because the ink will just bleed on most regular lines paper.
