oh look, the no watch guy
wait, i think i know, you use your cell phone to tell the time, how original
the only problem that your mobile is a piece of shit even if it's iphone 8 in 56k gold while watches are masterpieces

also idk what kind of girls you dealt with until now, but most ladies will always appreciate a nice watch on you, it can be that she can't tell the difference between a $500, a $5k or $50k watch, but still
accept it or not, watches draw attention and you can express wide variety of things wearing them

i'll be always grateful for cell phone manufacturers and that a lot of people have the same plebeian idea as you, less competition for us, watch owners

It's a cheap mechanism, if you're in mechanical engineering, you'd regret it. Lurk a little around watches to find something that you'll genuinely like instead, or just buy a cool vintage if you're really worried about the price tag. m8.

Also a lot of automatics have display backs, like the inexpensive seiko 5 snk809 which is universally acknowledged as the best price to value affordable watch.

I find leather on divers wrong, and you shouldn't be wearing a diver to formal occasions so you shouldn't need leather anyways. I'd stick with metal of various bracelet types which will look best for somewhat nicer occasions. Mesh seems to be a nice alternative today despite what guy above says. Stick with two-piece nylon and canvas straps if you don't like NATOs, and rubber or silicone if you're trying to dress it down further.

It's usually more like 10:08:36 because at 10:10, the hour hand is just a bit too far from the 10hr marker to have good lateral symmetry.
There's a reason for that: it frames the face of the watch well, displaying any subdials or complications the watch may have. It's also supposed to look as if the face of the watch is smiling as opposed to the upside-down version of this configuration that displays complications equally well but looks more like a frown.

they're based on ww2 german pilot's watches.
if you want to spend LOADSEMONE you can just hunt down an original, but there's plenty of modern reproductions and homages as well.

That looks so cheap

When I see a seiko 5
On a wrist that cheap 18mm raf style band, that small diameter polished case and busy face

I just immediately think ....elementary school baby's first watch

I'm a Seiko 5 owner and I kinda agree, but thinking back to when I wasn't a watchfag I remember seeing pictures of it, not knowing what it was or how much it cost and thinking it looked great. It probably just looks cheap to us after a while because we know that it is actually a cheap watch.

Well I've been told I look a lot like Paul McCartney, one time this old lady even told me how I had beautiful eyes and that when she looked at me she remembered being a little girl and screaming for the beatles.

You completely missed the point. I was saying that impressing girls isn't the reason to wear a nice watch. Go back to /r9k/, prick.

r9k'ers would probably want to do that kind of shit, because they don't know any better

I prefer the white version, but yeah it's lovely.
