Method 1: Cut off the hem of the shirt
Method 2: Take a seam ripper and remove the thread around the hem then unfold it. This will make the shirt a bit longer and the ends will curve but you can cut it off and the shirt will be roughly the same length versus a little shorter from method 1.

Online resources? You'd best crack open some books boy and take a look around you for some living resources. As for fabric any well sized city ought to have chain outlets selling cheaper fabrics and at the very least one boutique where you'll end up paying an eye and an ear for a ball of yarn that's only big enough to make a single sock.

Any guides on tailoring a suit jacket? I picked up an oversized suit for $7 from goodwill, want to fit it tighter, shorten the hem and make the lapels button up almost to the neck and make the collar standing. Also gonna dye it from gray to black, might add some accents to it, like subtle floral patterns, or something. If you run out, buy some more from goodwill (about $8 a pair, they don't have to fit) then cut those up too. you can, but it looks like the borders are brown leather, which won't absorb the dye very well at all, and black + brown is a pretty ugly colorway imo. a paint marker or something would probably be a better bet if you wanted them black. for expert mode, color them black and then wax them

remember kids whenever you're painting something always THIN your paint!! its better to do 3-5 thin layers that is clean and nice and isnt thick, than to just slap 1 thick ass layer of paint to something and have it peal or crack or clog up detail
