Acrylic paint. Just took the laces out and went at it.
On the rubber it flakes off while the paint on the canvas just rubs off. I kinda like the look of it.

Only time I have so far is when I was wearing them and ended up having to walk through some snow.
Probably will have to again in the future though. They're starting to look pretty worn. Much more than in that picture.
So yes, but for right now they're at a pretty good spot. Paint has lasted pretty well for a few months and acrylic paint is cheap.

Well, not speaking exclusively of looks here. I mean that's the basic gym shoes, I wear them when I expect to walk in the places I don't want to my footwear to get messy: beaches, back-alleys of parks, etc. Converse fit (my) foot much better, feels relaxed whereas Vans are kinda bulky, by fit and look both.
Slipons are the best option overall, I agree.
