What is reddit's obsession with infographics? Why can't they digest information any other way?

A lot of that infographic is shit, but the basic stuff like solid shirts (Uniqlo) and maybe the sweatpants is alright.

Apply all of this and un-dadcore it so it's all monochrome and it could be alright advice.
Infographics piss me off though because people tend to use it as a shopping list and just eat it all up, then they complain in WAYWT's when they all look the same.

>> No.7922648

I'm guessing most of you didn't post on /fa/ when the standard answer to any question was "search /rs/ for the .rar"? At least back then it felt like more people were creating content and engaging in discussion instead of mindlessly posting the same stock photos of the same items over and over again (inb4 "but all dem infopictures is stock images lawl" - that's sort of missing the point). It felt like people were at least trying to dress themselves more authentically than it does now. There's probably a healthy dose of rose tinted glasses in how I remember it, but I really don't remember everything being so uniform.

Anyway, infographics. They're quick visual references that are proven to be an effective way of rapidly digesting information. Why wouldn't you use them?

>> No.7922841

There's nothing wrong with using them as a point of reference but they shouldn't govern your fashion choices

>> No.7923038

this is discussed in every fucking thread involving reddit

copypasta from some anon off another reddit discussion thread who I think described it quite well:

the problem with reddit, and to an extent /fa/ as well, is that it attracts plebs who want the internet to tell them how to dress

they realize that they dress like shit atm, but have no idea where to start fashion-wise. these kinds of people want easy solutions to their problems, so they crave infographics like these that tell them how to dress. these people are incapable of thinking on their own. they want some1 else to make all the decisions. it's really sad and pitiful.

some people on /fa/ (like trunks, for example) actually want to experiment and try new things, they want to think for themselves and practice developing a style all their own. this is very commendable in a way that infograph culture is just sad and reflecting of a culture in decline. the people who MAKE infographics are even worse than the ppl who follow them

infographics used to be really popular on /fa/ a few yrs back when the /fa/ uniform consisted of an ocbd, chinos, and cdb's. but we've improved and come along way from that. we deserve to pat ourselves on the back

>> No.7923046

to be fair thats a solid infographic, but it's nothing you couldnt find out from lurking /fa/ for a few hours. it's also silly to subscribe to brands.

>> No.7923145

>>7923038

I don't think infographs are inherently bad though, nor is following one as a foundation. I also think it's pretty hyperbolic to say this reflects a culture in decline.

How else do you become proficient in something other than by copying or following some formal method? When you learn to play guitar you'll spend your formative years just reproducing basic exercises and covering simple songs you like. Almost no one starts off creating original work.

Yes, it's bad if you continue to follow rigid and predetermined methods/guides once you've learned the basics, just as it's bad to follow infographsfor your entire style. Infographs should just provide a basic groundwork to teach someone the essentials.

There's also a practicality to them as well. Most people don't have unlimited funds to experiment. I only started to after following infographs for a year. I built a basic wardrobe and gradually added more interesting pieces to it later.

I do agree that it is indicative of a culture in decline, but it only makes up a small portion of it. It's comparable to internet culture as a whole. The internet has bred a huge influx of pseudo intellectuals who browse Wikipedia articles and condensed posts and who take infographs/statistical breakdowns as fact.

These are the same people who will read a Wiki page but never follow the citations and read the actual sources, which are usually more complex texts or academix articles.

>it is currently a stigma to be an older college graduate who hasn't had any practical work experience during or since college.

I can't tell you how many entry level office jobs require some sort of degree, and they certainly pay better than MacDohs.

From what I can gather from my professors, a lot of college grads rely solely on their degrees for jobs, when all it does for employers is show them that you have something close to an expertise in something. They also want to see work experience and you need to be able to argue your case for them (i.e. "this is why you should hire me.")

Not saying the market isn't awful and oversaturated with grads.
