I think I read something about how it takes like a month of doing something to form a habit (or maybe it was three). Point is, I ran for a half hour every day during summer. Now I'm at the point where I feel weird if I don't run, so it's actually kind of a relief to do it.

But I feel ya. Exercise is generally boring by itself. I can't even run without music.

>> No.7912731

Haha, it's not that simple. The sort of calorie restriction that leads to reduced height is not possible in the developed world. I'm talking eating nothing but bread and water for years starting in childhood. Same for sleep.

Height is 100% genetic as far as 1st world goes.

>> No.7912738

>>7912731
>100% genetic
You're very wrong, please stop saying things that aren't true

Height also depends on diet, sleep, etc

My father's 5'8'', mother's 5'4'', I'm between 5'11'' and 6'0''

>> No.7912770

>>7912738
Says who, you? I'm not assuming anything, I have a dual degree in biochem and physiology. The sort of sleep and nutrition deprevation required to stunt bone growth by anything more than a centimeter is not possible here. When you are hungry do you eat? When you are tired do you sleep? Done. Unless you are forced to stay awake for days in a dark factory somewhere, or are constantly hungry and all you have to eat is bread or rice and you barely ever see meat or other parts of the 'food pyramid' you are not going to experience stunted growth by environmental factors. There was some research to say that caffeine could wash out calcium, it's also been proven wrong.

I mean hey, you can trust yourself on this or your parents or whatever who have 0 expertise on the matter or you can take my word for it who at least knows how metabolism and development actually works.

>> No.7912774

>>7912738
Oh, and it's not the case that your parents' phenotype represents all of the genetic information you inherit from them. What you see is only the fraction of genes that were expressed.

What, do you think it's not true?
He told me the "add father's + mother's height + 5in and divide by two" thing was bullshit for the newer generations since diet has a significant (positive) influence on growth nowadays and parents can't be used as reliable predictors anymore.

I don't know I'm not educated on the subject, but I just find it strange that growth can't be influenced by other factors unless you live in extremely precarious conditions.

>> No.7912826

>>7912799
No, and HGH I don't know. HGH is part of a special group of hormones that has a lot of feedback loops all over the place and so I wouldn't be surprised if your jaw grows but your legs don't. I could spend an hour reading the current literature but I have other things to do.

Not the guy you answered to, but when do male's growth plates close and one stops growing? Approximately, I just want an estimate.

And during that interval, past the growth peak during puberty (which happens around 14 years old if I'm not mistaken), at which rate do most people grow? Like one inch per year or so? Or is it not predictable?

Is there any kind of doctor I can see to get my height predicted

>> No.7912846

>>7912830
...that shows positive effect on growth by diet and sleep is comparing deprived African countries and North Korea to the USA. Of course they will find correlation. But in terms of what is actually necessary for bone growth in terms of how much of each amino acid, how many calories, vitamins, etc. they are all present in more than sufficient quantities in at least one meal from Burger King a day. In fact, supplemental vitamins do absolutely nothing, because the base quantity actually used by the body is so small a fucking carrot would have it. So, bring that up to your orthopedics guy, ask him to pull up the papers he's read and check what the control group is in the research that shows diet and sleep effects on height.

You can imagine it like a bell curve, it will probably be skewed towards your father's height. The point is it's possible you grow to 6'5" it's just really really really unlikely.

I'm going to assume I'm a fair bit older than you, so if you want my advice, stop worrying about it. Your height will make no difference in the grand scheme of things. Get laid, find something to be passionate about. Everyone's so damned neurotic about their height on this site.

Dude if you're a tall male and your between the ages of 16 and 24, even if you're only lightly active, you should please just not give a shit about what you eat. I used to eat absolute crap 24/7 and everyone always told me I was so skinny. Then I fucked myself and started counting calories and started eating like a bird and overexercising because of family issues and stuff and now I'm trying to build everything back up again. I realize now WHY my body naturally gravitated towards eating shitty foods and why I snacked constantly - it's because my caloric needs are crazy high and I need to eat kinda like a pig just to maintain a lower healthy weight with an ottermode build.

Well everyone's definition of "eating like shit" is different I guess. I mean, if I compared my former "crap" diet to the average American diet, you could say I ate healthily. But that's because some people LOAD their bread with butter and DRENCH salads in ranch and add in all sorts of additional calories from things that don't really add much to the food. I'm picky and I've always hated ranch/sour cream/too much cheese, etc. When I ate like "crap", I'd have fast food/chinese takeout probably twice a week, and whenever I went out with family, most of the time I'd get a greasy burger or something unhealthy, washed down with a sugar-syrupy drink like a flavored tea (I'd normally opt for just regular tea, though) occasionally getting dessert. I kept things like crackers, cookies, chips, pork rinds and beef jerky around the house as snacks, but I snacked on fruits and vegetables, too.

I also had 1½ hour swim practice 3-5 times a week and did a little outside cardio/calisthenics.

Compare this to some people who never work out, eat at least one fast food meal a day, desserts every day, only get vegetables from the fixins on their burgers and only get fruit from the strawberries in their milkshakes, then yeah, it wasn't so bad.
